We were created out of love and should we not spread such?
Calm your weary minds and experience life for the treasure it is, putting aside age old conflicts of belief. Such will ot be solved and cannot be, go and treasure every moment of your lives in joy. Experience.....well.......Valinor. :D
The speech Gandalf is saying, the "far green country under a swift sunrise" one was actually seen twice in the book trilogy - Once as a dream that Frodo has, a premonition of the future, in the house of Tom Bombadil... the other was his first actual sighting of Valinor, after he sailed into the West with Gandalf, Galadriel, Elrond and Biblo.
Tolkien based LOTR on his experience during the war at that time and his belief and faith in good in world. That through all our hardships in life, God has a beautiful plan for us, and as long as we just believe. we shall never truely die but live forever in His kingdom "All shall turn to silver glass" Also , the portrayal of friendship and loyaltee in LOTR is increadible and for the few that have that bond it is sooooo true to heart!!!!!!! LOTR speaks truth in volumes!!!!!
No offense to anyone here my brothers this is what Islam tells all Muslims about the way they would go to heaven after they die with good deeds or die by martyr. The way that Gandalf explained about the white shores and green country all is what life is after death.Unfortunately people miss judged the idea about 72 virgins in heaven in Islam. It has some other meaning not that something pervert. That is why Muslims are passionate about death when fighting for their religion.

Beautiful part of the country on a Sunny day, too. One of the few places you can still go to in England and feel a little more in touch with the time LOTR sort of represents, a place you can actually go to and forget how broken England now is, just for a second.
Yeah... Quite different from the England Tolkien lived in.

My sister said twilight is better than LOTR. I told her their is a big difference between them. I has heart and great acting and it shows the struggle to bring peace to the world, while twilight show how important it is to have a boyfriend
@TheMchunney74 Tell your sister to watch the LOTR for the story between Aragorn and Arwen. I guarantee she'll think the twilight vampires have nothing on these two when it comes to love. That way, you two can enjoy the same thing thought maybe for different reasons.
I feel like this video is a very beautiful example of *both* faith as truth and as delusion. You can see this is a Wizard speaking about a wonderful Heaven or as two desperate humans confronting death, and either way it's a fantastic moment in the movie.
Maybe that's why there are a million angry comments beneath this one, arguing for and against various religions. ;)
Modern society has put so much negativity and horror on death, so much so that it enthralls our minds all the time, and we don't want to die. But the truth is, death is beautiful. It brings us peace and joy in a far green country with white shores.
I don't really care about one's religion. Whether you're a Christian, a Hindu or a Buddhist, I think they all have the same goal (in a very different context, though). We try to embrace life and respect other people as we live in this planet Earth. And there's is no such religion that'd be perfected, oh no. You have seen it many times. A norweigan Christian just murdered dozens of people. But this particular video gives me comfort; That's where we're all going. To a far green country... peace.<3
@HeroineWith1000Faces Yeah, I know what you mean, but worrying about it does us no good. It's best to live in the present, and have faith in what is to come.
I could do with taking my own advice sometimes. :/
@RyanStileswliia That's what I thought as well. Part of what made RotK a great finale to the trilogy was the remarkable dialogue, not just the enthralling action scenes. I was a bit disappointed that the same level of compelling dialogue wasn't there in HP7, part 2 (with perhaps the minor exception of Neville's talk toward the end).
Gandalf is a maier (spirit/half-god...like an angel) and he is describing Valinor, where the Elves go when they sail to the west and when they die, basically their version of Heaven, which is forbidden to men. Pippin is a hobbit, descended from the race of men, so he will not go to Valinor when he dies. Kind of a bittersweet underpinning to this scene for Gandalf to describe to Pippen a place he will never get to see.
@lothlorian1001 Yes and no. Dead elves go to the Halls of Mandos to be resurrected, where they could then live eternally in Valinor. Dead men did no such thing; their disembodied souls were collected by Mandos, their ultimate fates no one knew except him and Illuvatar. While the Halls are in Valinor, mortals can't leave the place nor do they get to see these "white shores" Gandalf speaks of. Men don't get to see Valinor, period. It would defeat the whole point of Akallabeth, otherwise.
Absolutely right. That scene troubles me everytime I watch it. I'm thinking................ you hypocrite Gandalf............you'll return to the undying lands and become Olorin again for an eternity, whereas Pippin will simply snuff it.
One of the reasons I love pippin (see my nickname) is because was so close to Gandalf. It heard so much beuatiful words from him, that I wanted to be in his place...
wow..... just as I looked up and watched this video, my friend messaged me on facebook, telling me that my 5th grade teacher died from leukemia....she was one of my favorite teachers I ever had :'( ... R.I.P :(
@MedicTeam1 "too bad he's gay"? What so you mean by that? You're a girl hoping to marry him? Doubt it. It's proved with science that homosexuality is found in over 450 spieces while homofobia is found in one - humans. Now which one is the most uncommon? Doesn't matter if you're gay or straight, read some human rights, all worth the same?
If Jesus existed, he was probably just a religious man inspired to overthrow the current moral structure of the time, namely Good&Bad which was only good for the rich and powerful. It was replaced then with a new one called Good&Evil, basically the opposite. Everything that had been Good became Evil, and everything that was Bad became Good. As such society was greatly improved by this moral safety net.
Also, I doubt Jesus was the first to come up with this shit. Chinese philosophies are similar
@Kanig94 shut up u ignorant fool, what do you think humans are, a bunch of particles put together by evolution, no we are more than that we have souls and spirits
@BoyLotrFan That was out of line. He has every right to believe what he wants to without being called an ignorant fool especially when what you claim is unprovable by any living being.
@BoyLotrFan That story is 2000 years old, to quote Cheech Marin it may have picked up a few embellishments along the way and even though there is evidence pointing to the existence of a profit named Jesus there is no surviving evidence that he was anything more than a human profit who's thoughts on love and peace were ahead of his time.
@swordhunter12 no that explains it all, miracles are not, and can not be explained by humans or science or whatever, there are no rules that are certain, there is a God, therefore a heaven
@BoyLotrFan You can't say there is a God. You can't say there is heaven. There are no miracles. Stop believing this, enjoy your life, it's your only one.
@KaiserTota You sir don't' have an open mind and are a complete moron that has no life. You are the type that is going to be the downfall of this earth. Such foolish people these days.
@TheBigjohnny84 Why do you say I don't have an open mind? Why am I "a complete moron that has no life"? Why will I be "the downfall of this earth"? I didn't say anything that isn't already known.
@KaiserTota Your last sentence in that comment is why. You think you have everything figured out everything about this world when you haven't even fully grasped an inch of it. You think that there is no hope and no miracles and you can do whatever you want. Well if so...then why don't more people like you go and do "whatever you want"? There has to be somthing holding you back from what you want to do.
@TheBigjohnny84 I never said I have everything figured out about the world. I think there's hope. And, that I know, no miracles have ever been recorded. I don't know what you mean by "whatever I want". I'd like to go see Monument Valley, in Arizona. I'd also like to go to Space. Unfortunately, I know there are more pressing and important matters, such as my studies. You are attacking a strawman that isn't there.
@KaiserTota They are miracles all around you. Its whether or not you see them. It was a miracle that someone found the survivors of the Titanic. It was a miracle that the in 1776 we finally got our Independence in the USA. Miracles happen everywhere. Some have come and some are yet to come. I'm not sure what you study but I study the book of Revelation. It would seem easy to some people but there are puzzles and secrets to the book that can't be solved even today. Do not be blind by science.
@TheBigjohnny84 No, it wasn't a miracle. Those in the Titanic sent a distress call. Calling 1776 a miracle is a disrespect to the many men who died in the Independence War. You try to give a super natural explanation to everything, when you don't realise that that takes away from the beauty of it all. Science doesn't blind you, it's just a method that allowed men to explain the world around us. Years ago people thought illness was a punishment of God. Don't you think you're going the same way?
@KaiserTota If the people didn't send a distress call then they would have all died correct? There, thats one miracle. If the Independence wasn't signed we wouldn't be a free country and MORE men would have died correct. Thats another miracle. What are you playing at?
@TheBigjohnny84 Those aren't miracles. I'm not playing at anything, honest. So, when I decide to call the firefighters if my house is on fire, that's a miracle?
@TheBigjohnny84 "A miracle is an event attributed to divine intervention". That's the wikipedia definition. That wasn't divine intervention. That was human intervention.
@KaiserTota And how can you be positive it was human intervention? I'm assuming you have faith that there is no God correct? And I have faith that there is a God, and i also have faith that you can not see God physically of course. So lets just say there is a God....how do you know it wasn't divine intervention when you can't see him?
@TheBigjohnny84 Man no offense, but if everyone had this kind of look at happening in world, we would be sitting in caves and waiting for miracle to happen till now. Those were worst arguments you could use i guess. This is what's so "bad" about any religion, some people rely too much at some power and some rulles instead of dealing with stuff at their own responsibility. Either science or religion blinds you, if you dont know how to deal with the knowledge. But that's not the case of Gandalf :)
@MrXtremE42 Thats what i'm trying to get people to understand. I'm dealing with my own knowledge. I know how to use my knowledge and yes... some people aren't going to understand or they might just call me a freak but frankly i don't care. And no, if we all had this look on life... God would have came back a long time ago.
@TheBigjohnny84 Offcource, religious people don't have an open mind but atheists do -_-
Both groups have their minds completely shut. They don't want to hear eachoters arguments, only to get in trollfests with eachoter. Because that's what happens. Every time. Never a person touched by God is convinced of an atheists to drop his faith. Never a hardcore atheists will take on new ideas since he is so convinced of what he has now.
@komun1212 That's not a lie, thast usually how it goes in youtube discussions.
Atheists (the kind that spreads their opinion) also don't stop believing in what they do.
THEIR EXACTLY THE SAME.
Like I said the groups aren't really interessted in eachoters arguments ussualy; they just want their opinion to be heared or to convince the other (what never happens) .
@swordhunter12 There are a lot of Biblical aspects in the lord of the rings. Whether its true or not Lord of the rings is, i guess you could say...based off of the book of Revelation in the Bible.
@TheBigjohnny84 I've never really made the connection before but I think that's sort of a good thing because it means it can connect to Christians and non-believers alike.
@swordhunter12 exactly. But, yes I have studied many times the book of Revelation and there is a very strong connection between the two. Its quite interesting.
@Kanig94 Yes, it is in you and in the realm of eternity. You cannot know/understand for you do not have infinite knowledge unlike beings that have already reached God/Enlighenment.
This is the reason why I could and I will NEVER properly picture ian mckellan as Magneto, he is a great actor but he looks just too warm and kind to be a villan!
This is why The Lord of the Rings is no mere fantasy. It's an illustration of what really matters, what we're fighting for ... where we will all go one day.
The idea came to Tolkien in the trenches of the World War.... the reference to white shores refers to the british Tommy's coming home to England and the white cliffs of Dover, after serving in a hellish war...... "White shores and beyond... a far green country with a swift sunrise"
@justabloke1 I suppose that is another way of looking at it. I, however, tend to interpret it as a metaphor (for want of a better word) for Heaven. Although I see the logic in that.
Gandalf is speaking of Valinor (Heaven) to Pippin; and then they saw "White shores and beyond; a far green country, and a swift sunrise" and finally they see Eru (God)
Remember that; Tolkien was very Catholic!!!!
And put just one minute ta think... Gandalf represented as The Archangel Gabriel that comands the army of Heaven and "light" (Leader of the Fellowship, he took the command of the army of Minas Tirith and he was the one in the REAl scene of the book of the Return of the King; that he s
@ladsrus Yeah, you're probably right. Sorry for getting offensive. I just turn into a horrible, rude and sarcastic person when I'm offended, which is why I try not make YouTube comments anymore.
This is one of my favorite scenes from the film. It's very emotional and hopeful, Gandalf's speech is just so moving. I also love the music from "Into the West" playing in this scene. I get super chills @0:42 when the chorus music starts playing. So beautiful :')
when they seem to sense the door is about to be broken down and gandalf nods to Pippin, and Pippin braces himself for what's about to come.. I always almost cry
Please calm yourself my friends!!!
We were created out of love and should we not spread such?
Calm your weary minds and experience life for the treasure it is, putting aside age old conflicts of belief. Such will ot be solved and cannot be, go and treasure every moment of your lives in joy. Experience.....well.......Valinor. :D

It is about east v.s. west or we can call it good v.s. evil, same thing.
PimpTNigga 1 week ago
@PimpTNigga Yes, it's older than that. However, it has only been in the last few decades that it became as prevalent as it is now.
If you'll excuse me, i really don't want to get in a youtube argument...

@krasnoir Tolkien was a devout Christian. The themes of his writings (especially this one) make that evident.

My sister said twilight is better than LOTR. I told her their is a big difference between them. I has heart and great acting and it shows the struggle to bring peace to the world, while twilight show how important it is to have a boyfriend
TheMchunney74 6 months ago

To a far green country... peace.<3

RyanStileswliia 7 months ago 2

Ishkur23 8 months ago
@Ishkur23 hes describing valinor and the halls aswell the halls where good mens spirits and good dwarves spirits go are quite like his description
brigeboy95 8 months ago
@Ishkur23 actually the spirits of men go to the halls of mandos whitch is in valinor
lothlorian1001 8 months ago
@lothlorian1001 Yes and no. Dead elves go to the Halls of Mandos to be resurrected, where they could then live eternally in Valinor. Dead men did no such thing; their disembodied souls were collected by Mandos, their ultimate fates no one knew except him and Illuvatar. While the Halls are in Valinor, mortals can't leave the place nor do they get to see these "white shores" Gandalf speaks of. Men don't get to see Valinor, period. It would defeat the whole point of Akallabeth, otherwise.

Doesn't matter if you're gay or straight, read some human rights, all worth the same?
Murostaful 10 months ago
If Jesus existed, he was probably just a religious man inspired to overthrow the current moral structure of the time, namely Good&Bad which was only good for the rich and powerful. It was replaced then with a new one called Good&Evil, basically the opposite. Everything that had been Good became Evil, and everything that was Bad became Good. As such society was greatly improved by this moral safety net.
Also, I doubt Jesus was the first to come up with this shit. Chinese philosophies are similar

TheBigjohnny84 10 months ago
@TheBigjohnny84 Why do you say I don't have an open mind? Why am I "a complete moron that has no life"? Why will I be "the downfall of this earth"? I didn't say anything that isn't already known.
KaiserTota 10 months ago
@KaiserTota Your last sentence in that comment is why. You think you have everything figured out everything about this world when you haven't even fully grasped an inch of it. You think that there is no hope and no miracles and you can do whatever you want. Well if so...then why don't more people like you go and do "whatever you want"? There has to be somthing holding you back from what you want to do.
TheBigjohnny84 10 months ago
@TheBigjohnny84 I never said I have everything figured out about the world. I think there's hope. And, that I know, no miracles have ever been recorded. I don't know what you mean by "whatever I want". I'd like to go see Monument Valley, in Arizona. I'd also like to go to Space. Unfortunately, I know there are more pressing and important matters, such as my studies. You are attacking a strawman that isn't there.
KaiserTota 10 months ago
@KaiserTota They are miracles all around you. Its whether or not you see them. It was a miracle that someone found the survivors of the Titanic. It was a miracle that the in 1776 we finally got our Independence in the USA. Miracles happen everywhere. Some have come and some are yet to come. I'm not sure what you study but I study the book of Revelation. It would seem easy to some people but there are puzzles and secrets to the book that can't be solved even today. Do not be blind by science.
TheBigjohnny84 10 months ago
@TheBigjohnny84 No, it wasn't a miracle. Those in the Titanic sent a distress call. Calling 1776 a miracle is a disrespect to the many men who died in the Independence War. You try to give a super natural explanation to everything, when you don't realise that that takes away from the beauty of it all. Science doesn't blind you, it's just a method that allowed men to explain the world around us. Years ago people thought illness was a punishment of God. Don't you think you're going the same way?
KaiserTota 10 months ago
@KaiserTota If the people didn't send a distress call then they would have all died correct? There, thats one miracle. If the Independence wasn't signed we wouldn't be a free country and MORE men would have died correct. Thats another miracle. What are you playing at?
TheBigjohnny84 10 months ago
@TheBigjohnny84 Those aren't miracles. I'm not playing at anything, honest. So, when I decide to call the firefighters if my house is on fire, that's a miracle?
KaiserTota 10 months ago
@KaiserTota If they save you, yes...I would consider that a miracle.
TheBigjohnny84 10 months ago
@TheBigjohnny84 "A miracle is an event attributed to divine intervention". That's the wikipedia definition. That wasn't divine intervention. That was human intervention.
KaiserTota 10 months ago
@KaiserTota And how can you be positive it was human intervention? I'm assuming you have faith that there is no God correct? And I have faith that there is a God, and i also have faith that you can not see God physically of course. So lets just say there is a God....how do you know it wasn't divine intervention when you can't see him?
TheBigjohnny84 10 months ago
@TheBigjohnny84 I don't know, but it's your burden to provide evidence for it. How do you know it wasn't an invisible alien T-Rex?
KaiserTota 10 months ago
@KaiserTota well, thats where fate comes in.
TheBigjohnny84 10 months ago
@TheBigjohnny84 I don't see what you mean by "fate".
KaiserTota 10 months ago
@KaiserTota I meant faith..excuse me.
TheBigjohnny84 10 months ago
@TheBigjohnny84 Man no offense, but if everyone had this kind of look at happening in world, we would be sitting in caves and waiting for miracle to happen till now. Those were worst arguments you could use i guess. This is what's so "bad" about any religion, some people rely too much at some power and some rulles instead of dealing with stuff at their own responsibility. Either science or religion blinds you, if you dont know how to deal with the knowledge. But that's not the case of Gandalf :)
MrXtremE42 6 months ago
@MrXtremE42 Thats what i'm trying to get people to understand. I'm dealing with my own knowledge. I know how to use my knowledge and yes... some people aren't going to understand or they might just call me a freak but frankly i don't care. And no, if we all had this look on life... God would have came back a long time ago.
TheBigjohnny84 6 months ago
@TheBigjohnny84 Offcource, religious people don't have an open mind but atheists do -_-
Both groups have their minds completely shut. They don't want to hear eachoters arguments, only to get in trollfests with eachoter. Because that's what happens. Every time. Never a person touched by God is convinced of an atheists to drop his faith. Never a hardcore atheists will take on new ideas since he is so convinced of what he has now.
ElmerAwesome 8 months ago
@ElmerAwesome pffft thats a lie, a religious, zealous person will never stop believing in what he believes, what are you talking about?
komun1212 8 months ago
@komun1212 That's not a lie, thast usually how it goes in youtube discussions.
Atheists (the kind that spreads their opinion) also don't stop believing in what they do.
