If I heard this performance at a local jazz club, yeah I'd be overjoyed, but to suggest that it's a credible version that truly does credit to the original is insane. The band is not all that tight, and overall it completely lacks the power and emotion of the original. I mean I almost feel stupid writing this because it should be obvious to anyone that it's not bad but they aren't pimples on Trane's or Tyner's butts.
I didn't think my comments were that harsh. I did say it would be good for a local jazz club. It all depends on what your standard of comparison is. There are comments here such as "Coltrane himself would be proud". That's an utterly ridiculus comment. Comments such as "tempo varies wildly" are quite accurate - anyone with a sense of rythym should be able to hear that - and yet that comment got thumbs down.
You have a local group of fans who are writing all these glowing comments, and when someone with an ear writes a legitimate criticism, he is attacked with a comment like "you pretentious stupid dick". It's a pretty good performance of a difficult piece. If you're a group of casual musicians then I give you all the credit in the world. If you believe the comments of those who compare your version to the original, then you are suffering from borderline psychotic delusions of grandeur
sax tone is ok.. it doesn't swing at all.. drums piano and bass.. sorry, can't say much good about any of it.. a very square attempt to recreate the quartet's music..
drummer is terrible.. bas and piano are lame.. IT DOESN'T SWING!!! stiff, boring.. sorry guys..
this is extremely good musicianship. Coltrane himself would be proud.. all of your versions. I am blowed back by the emotions you are able to duplicate from the original recording...i appreciate it..
PLEASE NEVER DO THAT AGAIN! PLEASE!!

@61hink
I appreciate the comments harsh. Technology is unsatisfactory to play more than anything else.
Every year, this song is once again the research, there are new discoveries.
Of course, I am not a professional musician, but I wish I could approach the spirit of this song as possible.

I have a good understanding of your comment.
"YouTube" The great thing is to get comments from people with a sympathy from the other side of the planet.
Depend on where you put the standard course. Also, if you said what you expect.
While playing poorly, this play is not a copy. Is a tribute to Coltrane and McCoy. Please understand that.

I understand. It's one of the greatest jazz pieces ever recorded. You have courage to attempt to play it. Please continue to perform and improve.
