I've been involved in education for 20 years and I want to thank you for this inspirational video. For too long has the call for someone to help kids with their paragraphs gone unheeded. Together we can rid our schoolbooks of unindented expressions of thought with unsupported topic sentences. Bless you Grancie. And for any kids reading this, please remember that the paragraph is the building block of an essay

@markthenicholson Well, I can't take the blame for the melody. It's the "Itsy Bitsy Spider". As for the lyrics, they're intended to help children remember how to write a paragraph, not to hit the top 40. I'm sure Billy Joel would understand that or, if not, the good manners not to say otherwise.
hmmm. Whats BJ got to do with anything. Did he write the "Itsy Bitsy Spider??" Oh dear. What has this world come to when people can freely express their freedom to speech... without any regards to another's feelings? Shame. Really.
Nice video! these are very important steps to follow by the time you are learning how to writte well, and also this is an easy and helpful way to writte because it helps us to organized the ideas and to avoid messy paragraphs.

@Grancie48 No Way! That totally helped. I just wrote a amazing paragraph about how Pit Bulls are wonderful dogs, gave three points and closed with Helen Keller, Rachel Ray, Tomas Edison & General Gorge Paton as fellow Americas who love or loved the loyal & trust able Pit Bull. Thank You = )
It is either "now that you HAVE heard" or "now that you HAVE listened to". The difference in nuance is so slight as to make them totally interchangeable.
However, "listened to" has a sense of not only hearing, but also attending to a sound.
Actually, both instructions are correct. When you begin to write paragraphs, you write three detail sentences between the topic sentence and the "clincher". As you become more proficient, your teacher may require you to write as many as five detail sentences.
In the same way, a beginning essay is initially 5 paragraphs long and later 7 or more.
i am so glad i came across this video, my grand-daughter is having such a hard time writing, reading and making it through the first grade..she can't see, to comprehend...thank you for the video
Don't get discouraged. Each child learns at his own pace. Last fall, I came across some "We Both Read" books at our library where the pages on the left are read by an adult and the pages on the right are in larger print and simpler vocabulary (as low as Kdg) and are read by the child. Perhaps your grand-daughter would enjoy reading something like these WITH you. Whatever you do, make sure that reading is always FUN, not a chore. Good luck.
Very well explained. Thank you.
