Towards launch players had no idea what the gold dragon around his portrait was, and many young humans ran sadly towards their death, completely oblivious to the slaughter Hogger had in store for them. No one knew that a group was needed, since they hadn't encountered an NPC as powerful as him yet. Those were dark days in the World of Warcraft.

my guild tried this, we are all fully geared cata raiders. in a 40 man raid with 10 healers, 2 tanks and tonnes of leet dps, we still took an all night of wiping and yelling at each other to not even get him past 50%. He is too hard. blizz need to nerf him now

My guild is doing Decent, we've passed the first wing... of gnolls. It was difficult to take down the second wing though, there were just too many around the camp. But did eventually get passed those 4 enemies... after about 54 wipes. So now all we got to do is try and kill hogger, but I don't think our main tank is geared enough, he's got 6k gear score, but he doesnt keep the health up very well. Hopefully our highly geared ret pally will get shadowmourne soon, otherwise were screwed.

@CALUCATCEPS Some people believe this is because of him causing grps of lvl 10's to die, it's not really hard i soloed him on a lvl 10 warlock. Also in the achievement statistics, there's a space called "Deaths by Hogger" and the number. And the fact that he has 666 hp makes him even more popular.
