  • Sarah Brightman and Micheal Crawford are AMAZING!

The movie's don't do this masterpiece justice at all.

The recent movie was okay though, the acting was really good, the singers just couldn't compare.

  • gerard=better actor

    crawford=better singer

sarah=bad bad christine (not that shes a terrible singer but her voice doesnt fit the part)

emmy=complete and total amazingness. i prefer the movie just bcuz of her

    thats my opinion.....

  • @uhpanduh That's funny that you say that Sarah Brightman's voice doesn't fit the part, Uhpanduh. Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the musical for Sarah Brightman and her voice.

  • @ChristineDaaePhan07 well if your going to be technical he didnt "write" the story he wrote the songs and i think emmy's innocence/childish voice fits the character better. Christine supposed to be young and naive, ect. they both have wonderful voices but when it comes down it it i prefer emmy. and of course webbers going to write it for sarah. she was his wife! i think there may have bit just a tad bit of bias when casting that role.

  • @uhpanduh I said he wrote the musical, not the story. Re-read it. As for Emmy's "Innocent/Childlike" voice-Christine is supposed to be a talented opera singer, NOT, a child like doe faced bad actress that shows too much cleavage.

  • @ChristineDaaePhan07 whatever I suppose its just best to agree to disagree right? no point in fighting over silly things. the important part is that everyone here recognizes the awesome amazingness of phantom of the opera

  • @ChristineDaaePhan07 So true. Emmy can barely uphold a high note, and all her notes are painfully weak, along with her appearance. All weak. Sarah was brilliant and beautiful.

  • @uhpanduh You can't even compare Sarah and Emmy! Sure, Emmy was wonderful, but you can not say she's better than Sarah! Sarah is the best and that's that. :). I do agree with what you said about Gerard and Crawfrod, tho. You can't beat Crawford's voice, but Gerard just has this look in his eye that I love.

  • A lot of people seem to consider themselves die hard phantom fans when they only appear to like the movie... Seems strange.

  • @teamphantomFTW Actually, no, Gerard doesn't. He was a good Phantom, but the Phantom is supposed to be hideous, who nearly wins over Christine with the voice of an angel. Gerard also tried a bit too hard. He groans & nearly cracks multiple times.

  • his amazing love it so much ..

  • My aunt was super fortunate to of had seen Sarah and Michael perform Phantom on Broadway when they first premiered. She says its still her favorite performance she's ever seen on the stage and it was magical to hear the two of them sing live. I am absolutley jealous of my aunt lol

  • I saw Phantom at Pantages and it was great! The only problem was that i saw the movie first so it was hard for it to live up to my expectations :P it was still good tho!

  • Michael Crawford was extremely good, and it can NOT be denied.

  • This was the first Broadway Play I ever saw and I was mesmerized and astounded by the experience. Still am.

  • @momochansama @christinedaaephan07 At least we can all agree Colm Wilkinson was the worst right?! :D

  • @momochansama Well then consider your comments on my videos deleted. Post elsewhere.

  • This recording doesn't do the vocalists justice...but they are amazing nonetheless.

  • Is this audio actually taped from the actual show or is it just the CD that you made sound old? Cuz I have the CD of Crawford and Brightman and the quality is 100x better than this..

  • @camlenoir16

This is a very bad copy of the original cast recording (1986)

  • @camlenoir16 It's an audio taped from the show :)

  • @ChristineDaaePhan07 Oh ok lol :)

  • Comment removed

  • the voice of MC and SB are so differet from that of GB and ER its good though

  • @ChristinaDestler

Thats because Michael Crawford CAN sing en Gerard Butler CANT.... at least MC doesnt need clever devises to make him sing in tune or sing a notes thats longer than 4 counts...

  • i really prefer M.C to me is much more realistic than J.B

  • The first song isnt actualy "Angel of Music", its "Insolent boy"

  • Ovation TV network shows The Making of the Phantom in June. A wonderful intro to the POTO.

  • I love how people who have no music background, or singing background for that matter, give their opinion about whether someone is good or bad in singing, since their ears are not trained to listen to the vocal "details" which can truly determine if someone has a good voice and is good at singing. Example, someone who doesn't know about singing Lindsay Lohan can sing live, but someone that has a singing background is able to hear the auto tuning effect when she sings live.

  • NOT Sarah Brightman

  • @sr2642 Why not? Webber wrote this musical just for her and Cats because of her powerful wide range. He wasn't going to publish this without her, if you don't believe me look it up. Theres not very many classical singers that get paid for a living like Sarah Brightman.

  • Michael is a true gentleman. He welcomed my young son back stage and gave him the appliance he wears. He also wrote him for years. Rare...very rare.

  • Michael Crawford really does the phantom justice!! After reading the book he is by far the best phantom. His voice is divine! The whole point of the phantom is to be ugly but with a voice that is captivating and hypnotizing. Gerard Butler is just too hott to be the phantom! It's sad that they had to alter his voice XD lol enjoyed the vid thnx for posting ^^

  • Sarah Brightman is the real and the best Christine forever!

  • This is beautiful, but I love the version with Tim Martin Gleason and Trista Moldovan better, they're brilliant!!

  • @Gotenks7Kid Don't insult the videos I post. If you DON'T like Michael Crawfor don't want it. Watch your little piss ass Gerard Butler crack during Music of the Night--and by the way, he didn't even sing the high notes. They had to use a computer to alter his voice. Sad.

  • @ChristineDaaePhan07

i dnt believe tht they altered his voice, also, i do quite enjoy hearin the original...most people dnt realize that the 2004 movie version wouldnt b here if it wasnt 4 this one here, because the musical was written specifically for sarahs voice, and webber was going to cancel the production without her as christine (he said it in an interview). I just ♥ Phantom of the Opera. All versions, except the 1925 version, because i was scared by the makeup when i was a little kid

  • @ChristineDaaePhan07

I'm not a big fan of the film's casting either, but bear in ming that Sarah Brightman's high E was also altered hard core.

  • @ChristineDaaePhan07 Agreed, GB can't sing, in fact GB in an interview, referred to Michael Crawford as "The Master" when it comes to portraying the Phantom. Butler wants to forget he did the film. Avoids the subject since it flopped so badly.

  • @Gotenks7Kid , wow. I disagree with almost everything in that statement xD

  • @Gotenks7Kid You know... you honestly need to fix your ears. I suppose his 'acting' is 'all that' but there is a difference between broadway and the movies. For one you have to exaggerate everything in broadway and second you don't get any second takes in it... honestly if Gerard Butler didn't use effects to his voice it would just sound crappy. Hollywood isn't exactly "what you see is what you get" Broadway is.

  • Shitty sound quality is shitty o.O but otherwise very good

  • I LOVE IT!

  • i always get chills when the song phantom of the opera starts, i love the intro! i wish micael crawford was doing love never dies. i love sarah!

  • Too bad this video has nothing to do with the movie. Keep your comments about Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum directed towards those videos. Not videos pertaining towards the stage show.

  • wtf are you going on about? muppet

  • @ChristineDaaePhan07 While I dislike these people even attempting to compare this version to the movie which was par at best. You do have pictures from the movie in here making it relevant to compare the two,

  • @darkwater2691 There is more pictures from the movie than the musical I suppose it is because when your in a movie you have proffesional pictures and many can make their own. Musicals don't have many pictures and there is no photography allowed. The Musical hit the stage before the movie hit theatres. If sarah brightman wouldn't have taken the part Phantom wouldn't exist right now. If you havn't seen it live there is way more effects not in movie. Also I say once the artist always the artist.

  • @ChristineDaaePhan07 Oh really? Because last I checked, this video and the movie dealt with the same subject matter: The Phantom of the Opera. So whether you approve or not, they two will always be compared and YouTubers will post their opinions. Butler rules.

  • @momochansama If you think that Butler rules, you should post on a Butler related video. I modify this video. I created it.I'm tired of the Butler/Crawford debates, because really...there is no comparison when it comes to the talent displayed by Crawford. Suck it.

  • @momochansama If you think that Butler rules, you should post on a Butler related video. I modify this video. I created it.I'm tired of the Butler/Crawford debates, because really...there is no comparison when it comes to the talent displayed by Crawford as compared to stupid Gerard Butler. Suck it.

  • After seeing and hearing Michael Crawford and Sarah Brightman do this live, I tried watching the movie and it didn't do it justice. Just my opinion.

  • Although Gerarld fell short in quite a few spots, he still did a very admiral job. Of course nobody can match Crawford, it was still an outstanding performance

  • But the guy in the movie couldn't sing at all. I've seen other phantoms, all considerably better than then him. The guy on Broadway right now is very good.

But no one will ever equal Crawford. Ever.

  • Michael Crawford is the only one so far has Olivier and Tony Award for his Phantom, no one else has been nominated since him. Does anyone know why? I can wager a guess, Michael was purely perfections and captured the audience, and have 14 million advance Broadway sales before it opened in 1988.

  • @caprice6 Probably because the only year Phantom has had any nominations for the Tony Awards was 1988. It's had no nominations in ANY category since then. It has nothing to do with who was in the show. The only shows that really get nominated each year are NEW shows, and considering that Phantom has been around since '88, I doubt it's going to get any nominations anytime soon.

  • @RavenNation the Tony's are only for new shows that have come out that year, that's why older shows are never nominated.

  • @tinystarlet112 Yeah, I know. But making a comment at 4 in the morning while I'm also distracted by other things, means that I don't really read over what I said. I meant to put that the Tony's are only for new show, but whatever. It doesn't really matter.

  • Finally!!! Someone who sees my point. Andrew Lloyd Webber was involved with the movie from start to finish and had told Joel Schumacher that the cast had to be able to sing. Both Gerry and Emmy auditioned for ALW before being cast. Gerry sang Music of the Night with ALW at the piano. If he didn't think they could handle the demands of their roles they would have NOT been cast.

  • if only he had thought that way when he cast evita then we would have a powerful memorable eva to watch on the big screen

  • Gerard is a better actor and singer

btw there no point in fight about this becuz people have diff opioion

and gerard did better even tho he barelly trained

Sarah and Emmy were both great but i prefer Emmy

  • Sorry, I disagree. Most of the men that want the role of the Phantom train for years and face tons of information before they even get a shot. Gerard Butler was handed the role, and Emmy Rossum couldn't sing for shit. They both had to have their voices digitally bumped up for high notes. Pathetic.

  • Do you have information supporting your claims or are you just guessing that their voices were digitally altered? It's safe to say that any Broadway musician can easily "out-sing" these two actors but that doesn't mean they went to some studio and altered their singing digitally because some Phantom of the Opera fanatic says so. Nobody will ever accept something/someone as BETTER because the original music will always exist. In other words, Crawford will always be the best because he was first.

  • Emmy didn't have to have her voice digitally altered. She is a trained opera singer, singing at the Met when she was 7 years old. And as far as Gerry is concerned, I think he did a phenomenal job. He made a stunning and sexy Phantom. If you paid any attention to the documentary about the making of the movie, Joel Shumacher said he didn't want a known actor to the play the role because of all the baggage and comparison that would be made.

  • Singing in the children's choir at the age of seven doesn't count as being "trained". Do you even know the work that some of the actresses that have played Christine on stage have to go through to even be considered? Waitressing jobs, years of rejections, countless training sessions. As for Gerard Butler being "sexy" as the Phantom. ARE YOU KIDDING?!? DO you even know the story? He's not supposed to be SEXY. He's supposed to be ridiculously deformed. Not look like an Abercrombie and Fitch model.

  • First of all, I have read the story, several times and am extremely familiar with the story. And I also know the hard work that goes into being a Broadway actress. My godsister is one, having won the 1977 Tony award for Featured Actress-Play in For Colored Girls Who've Considered Suicide (When The Rainbow Is Enough) Her name is Trazana Beverly and she's worked many years at her craft.

  • I would believe that, but you spelled your so called godsister's last name wrong. Good try though.

  • Really, smarty? Mother's name Lois, retired teacher, my godmother and my mom's best friend. Father William, Sr..used to own grocery store/deli. in west Baltimore. Has brother Bill, Jr., nephew Billy. Used to live on Myrtle Ave. in Baltimore years ago..moved to New York and started acting. Gee..wonder how I knew all of that?. It's bad to assume something when you don't have all the facts.

  • Michael Crawford is an amazing singer and actor and I, too, felt that after the play, no one could ever play the role but him in the movie. But despite, what people may think, I still believe that given the pressure he had to endure, and never-ending comparisons to Michael, Gerry did a great job.

  • I love the way you think

  • you Have lost!

  • I am not even going to get into the GB MC war. I have had violent fights with my friend about it (she broke my nose and I bit her and fractured her wrist-I like to believe I won. I still want to keep myself relatively uninjured) I truly believe that MC is the most amazing person alive. Not just as a singer. But the way he stands, and moves, it's the epitome of gracefulness. I can't believe how Crawford went from doing stuff like Some Mother's Do Ave em to this. He is an amazing person. My idol.

  • I think that MC and SB are amazing! But I do think that Emmy and Gerard are good too. I mean they are actors. Not broadway singers. I think with the voices they had they were good. Nothing can compare to SB and MC though. NOTHING!

  • Especially since Butler had almost no musical training, he did so well I was amazed. I can never hold out that last note from Music Of The Night like he does

  • ALW may have like Gerard Butler singing but the rest of US, UK the movie was a failure not breaking even what was spent.

  • 6 MONTHS Training this is all for Gerard Butler, not wondered he had sung poorly B- at best, worst when he had sung with Emmy and Patrick.

Michael was given a year before he began to rehearse for the Phantom.

  • and Michael Crawford is actually a proper singer 2! ^_^ and it was Gerard Butler's first time singing! he did quite well for only six months training!

  • Michael Crawford had become better singer for his year training for the role of Phantom.

Gerard Butler was awful, six months training did not help. He was the weakiest singer of thewhole cast. Even Carlotte sung better than him.

  • That's really interesting that you say that Carlotta sang better that Gerry, especially given the fact that Minnie Driver (who played Carlotta) didn't do any of her own singing. Margaret Preece, a vocal teacher in the U.K did all Carlotta's vocals.

  • Minnie Driver did lend her own voice to Learn to be Lonely, a song written by Andrew Lloyd Webber which was her own voice, she sung better than Gerry.

  • -sigh-If only MC and SB were in the 2004 movie (at least MC).Gerard Butler was horrible, but Emmy was ok.And besides,MC would still should've been Erik (He was 62 in 2004,now he's 67).Sure,Gerard is good-looking,but the character itself was not SUPPOSED to be good-looking.All together analysis=Gerard SUCKS,MC ROX!

  • i know Michael i went to church with him. he got Sara and him to sing at my churches pops concert

  • Do they have a CD for the Original Broadway Cast or just for the Original London Cast?

This doesn't sound like it's live. It sounds like as if it was recorded but the music sounds in a different tempo and tune.

  • the original London cast reprized their roles when the show moved to Broadway.

  • yes they have the songs on the andrew weber greatest hits album.

  • yup! you can buy the CD! ^_^

  • michael has the voice of an angel

  • I saw Anthony Warlow play the Phantom just yeterday in Adelaide (Australia), it was so beautifully done it almost made me cry!

  • Gerard has no voice.

  • Emmy and Gerard hurt my ears badly when I listen to them in the movie it makes me want to run away from the TV Screen. Michael and Sarah always calm me down, talented and soothing are their voices.

When someone like me has a bad day, I would always listen to Michael and Sarah, while Gerard and Emmy makes me want to punch the wall. (I have Asperger problems)

The producers and Shumacker made a mistake not picking SB and MC.

  • Exactly my sentiments. There's just nothing in the movie to catch the magic in the show, except perhaps the cleavage and the sets.

  • I totally agree with you DanPhantom. Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford were made for the roles. The movie was a huge disappointment. Yeah Emmy is pretty and Gerrard is sexy blah blah....but can they REALLY sing?? not in my opinion. Butler kind of sang-talked and Emmy was very airy. The whole point of the show is to focus on the beautiful operatic quality of the songs, not just the visual effects and pretty faces. Just my opinion. Take what you like and leave the rest. ;)

  • Emmy couldn't move from the high notes to the lower ones at all .... her vocal quality went out the window when it came to anything lower than an F ..... :(

  • I just saw this on broadway in new york city.. and i cannot even describe how beautiful it was. I tried to capture a bit of it again when i came home so i turned on the 2005 video

    ...

and to put it simply i was disappointed.

this musical was in every way epic!

  • Yeah, I'm going to see Howard play the Phantom, He's terrific!

  • SB and MC capture the whole feeling of the show better than gerard butler and emmy

also sarah can hit the high notes and sound like an opera singer

  • im my opinoin michael crawford is the best phantom ever. gerald butler a close 2 but crawford is the best

  • Sorry "Jagtarro" but you need new ears or better speakers. There is no way in hell Sarah overpowers Michaels voice. Listen again. All you do is get on MC videos and bash the guy and say a bunch of untrue stuff about him. If you don't like Michael thats fine but don't be a complete jerk towards him. Both Michael and Sarah sound powerful here and compliment each other. How would you like me to get on a bunch of Brightman videos and do nothing but knock her. Respect MC as well as SB.

  • You're pathetic.

Do you HONESTLY think Christine, an OPERA singer, would sound like that immature, skilless, studio-enhanced and weak voice of Emmy?

    Hardly.

    Sarah is MUCH, MUCH better.

Also, if you're still persistent, you may want to look up Sarah's new album "Symphony". Look at ANY of the pictures in the set.

Hardly "ugler than the hunchback of notre dame".

  • You obviously don't know what you're talking about. Emmy has been singing opera since she was seven. She is far prettier and more talented than Sarah can ever hope to be. Sarah is OK, but if she wasn't married to Weber, she doesn't get this lead, period.

  • YOU obviously don't know what YOU'RE talking about.

The fact you didn't realize that it's a well-known fact that Andrew Lloyd Webber WROTE the role for Sarah Brightman (every single note was written with her voice in mind, she was the INSPIRATION, you can look it up anywhere), and that you claim Emmy is "more talented" than Sarah, makes me think you have absolutely no clue what you're talking about. She sings Opera? Sure doesn't show. With that weak, thin voice that's just wrong for Christine.

  • Don't be so horrible

    Sarah brightman is really pretty

    and she is talented

    i really like her;)

  • Just a few words: Sarah's certainly a certified PRO...Emmy's good and promising, but she has still has a long way to go.

  • they didnt cast michael and sarah because the producer person said they were "middle aged" but who the hell cares. yaya, gerard is sexy, and emmy's vute and everything, but they needed an older actress for christine and someone more, well, suited for phantom. they shouldve cast michael and sarah no matter what!!!!!!!!! emmy's just too young. gerard is just too sexy.

  • she suppose to be a YOUNG saprano

a that time age didnt matter

  • ok the hunchback thing was funny but mean lol shes alittle creepy when she stares but sos everyone, and emmys voice is cute and has alot of potential when she sings in her throat but her highnotes were agonizing ( plus i got damn tired of her boobs taking center screen, i mean seriously its like the 1800s , whos does that?)

  • My dear the story was like released in the 20th centuary. the musical came out in like around 1986 what do you expect? and Sarah Brightman WAS married to Andrew Lloyd you do know that right? you know the one who produced and composed the music and film?
