@kevinaster74 not quite, the only Mustang to ever have a 5.4 stock is the 2000 Cobra R and that's N/A, the 03-04 Cobra has the DOHC 4.6 and they're underrated at 390hp, they make that to the wheels easy
but i agree a lightly modded Cobra can whip a lightly twin turbo RX7 with ease, the old rotary engine's aren't that great and they gulp gas, the RX8 Renesis is much better

That rx7 is far from stock but that mustang might have it stuff done also, hey im a mustang guy but when it comes to that generation rx7 forget it thats my dream car.
I have owned 3 first generation RX-7's, put about 600,000 miles across all three. I ran a 13B 6 port with light flywheel, Del'orto Carburetors and racing beat exhaust,..no turbo, no nitrous, it would top out at around 140 + MPH and get there pretty damn quiick,...aproximately 200 HP, still averaged 21 MPG, and I lightened them down to around 1900 Lbs, stripped out everything I didn't need and went looking for Mustangs and Camaros to eat,. Lots of fun, I want another one!

@TomTom101736 I figured you did typo, but you never know LOL.. a 2011 RX-8 has 232-hp, RENESIS 2-rotor, rotary engine. So yes. They really aren't that bad of cars. It's weight distribution is 50-50 too. Making it's handling pretty good as well. Most cars don't have that.

@ganzeytyler they can easily last over 200k miles it's just alot of people can't be bother with proper maintenance and then complain when their motor is blown a rotary over 3k miles after your last oil change is like a piston motor 6k miles after and a oil leak your playing with fire and your gonna get burned just do oil changes properly check for any oil leaks, don't turn the car of then turn it right back on flooding the motor and your on the road to a 200k mile rotary

@NickDiNunzio ill assume that your talking about the mustang cobra, and if so, your very misinformed, considering the 2003 cobra is the same as the 04. supercharged dohc 4 valve mod motor. Stock they make close to 400whp, maybe a little less

BTW Rx-7's and RX-8's don't have 4 cylinders, they have Rotary engines which have no cylinders and are smaller than a 4 cylinder, but in this video, it is walking all over a super charged V8.
@RotaryGTUs NO they can easily get past a 1.3l twin turbo. They can't get past the weight of the RX-7. Quit trying to be a DICK. You can slap each of these engines in any other car and I assure you the 4.6 would come up top every time.

@RotaryGTUs -sigh- The 4vs actually respond very well, but they are just expensive in general to mod. Yet, my point is the Rx-7's weight is what makes the 1.3l so great. Take away that weight and it pretty much is a useless engine. RX-8 is the prime example. Hence, why i said do a 4.6l 4v or 2v swap into the RX-7 and the 1.3l won't compete. 13b is only about 180-190lbs lighter than the 4.6 DOHC block.
@Texarmageddon The RX-8 is slower because it has less torque because it isnt turbo charged. It does weigh 250 lbs more than the 7 but if it came with twin turbos, like a 7, it would be more powerful than and just as fast, if not faster. The whole point in a Rotary car is a smaller lighter car with equal weight distribution, so why would you take away the weight advantage to make them equal? If we wanted equal why not just run to two of the exact same cars against each other at all times?
@Chrisnuzzo76 Unless they figure out how to keep the same HP level, increase MPG, and keep it close to the same price the car won't become turbo. I wasn't trying to make it fair. What i was saying is that the Rotary engine itself has no true advantage. Th RX-7 was light by nature. The one guy criticized how 4.6s can't get past the rotary. I took this as an engine comment not the car.
@Texarmageddon The RX-7 T/MA was 2,862lbs which we both know had a power lvl to compete only because of the turbos. Swap the DOHC 4.6 that brings you to 3,046lbs. The engine may bring you to a 53/47(could be more) and that's still better than most cars(370z for instance). In all, I just wanted to say to say that in equal bodies the 4.6 engine is a rather good engine. Yet, it is just in a heavier body than the RX-7
@Texarmageddon Ford makes a good motor and they make their cars a reasonable price for the performance they produce. The 4.6 4 valve from the 03 Cobra is a mean ass motor capable of 1000 hp with stock internals. The amazing thing about the 1.3 liter Rotary is it is only 3 moving parts and capable of 550 hp w stock parts, or for about $3000 you can rebuild it capable of 800-900 hp (check out V8 killa from crispeed on youtube 687 rwhp) The great thing about these cars is their light weight design.
@Texarmageddon The base model RX-7 1993-1995 was 2789 lbs and the R1 was 2800 even, the heavier ones with body kits and stuff were 2862. The thing is many of the parts in an RX-7 or 8 are moved near the center to give it a perfect center of gravity, the good part about the small motor is they are able to move it behind the front axles to where it is almost a mid engine, and they do the same with the gas tank by putting it in front of the rear axles. Not many cars have this much detail.

Check out the Furai which uses a 2.0 liter 3 rotor and makes 440 hp on e85 with no turbos, besides the Cobra uses a super charger so I don't know what your getting at. Also to make more than the power the 4.6 makes stock you have to do modifications, and there are people that modify the 1.3 Rotary to turn 14000+ RPMs and make plenty of power without a turbo. Both can make plenty of power if in the right hands.

W/D i completely forgot about the placement of the engine. I'm not saying the rotary can't be modded to higher levels. I'm just stated for drag purposes only, if we went N/A on two RX-7s one with a 4.6 swap the 4.6 will take it. Yet, on the track the Rotary would be a strong competitor.
@Texarmageddon Like i said earlier, they have to figure out how to make all three of those at once. Have you seen the RX-8? It's priced almost higher than every reputable mid-level sport car, and gets worse gas mileage than every mid-level sport car. A twin-turbo or 3 rotary engine is going to shoot the price up. The rotary engine is still facing the same problems as to why it's been shunned year after year. It hasn't become beneficial.
@Texarmageddon I don't buy sports cars to get great gas mileage do you? Yes I'll agree I wish it came from the factory about 3-4 tenths faster in the 1/4 but just as I would do with any sports car I buy I will purchase upgrades, and with a SC or Turbo it can make 375-425 hp on the motor (not to the ground) which is right there with most of the really higher end muscle cars, but it weighs any where from 400-1100 lbs less than any of them. Dodge srt8's weigh 4000-4200 lbs! look it up.

Yet, you have to remember that cars still have regulations to meet, and if the car doesn't meet the min. reqs. the car is in a lose/ lose situation. People will take the car that get better straight numbers. People will take the car that gets better MPG. Ultimately, almost all piston and rod engine cars are doing better in both those. Lastly, companies are taxed if they don't meet the reqs. MPG matters whether you want it to or not.
@Texarmageddon I own a 2005 RX-8 6 speed and with only slight modifications I am door to door with my friends 2007 Mustang GT 4.6 liter 5 speed. Yes the RX-8 is not very fast especially the way the factory released it with a very rich fuel mixture for emissions purposes, but the fact that a car with such a small motor can contend with motors triple its size is what is impressive to me. Take a 1.3 liter piston motor & tell me how much hp it makes. Rotary cars are designed for track not strip.
@Chrisnuzzo76 I like the rx8, but it feels kinda like a toy car. Amazing handling because of it's weight. There is always a trade off though, I'm 6'1 and can sit in the back seat of a 07 GT. I had to sit indian style in my friends rx8! lol I feel safer in the mustang due to it's size. (Star crash ratings are for "like sized" vehicle crashes) I live in kansas with a bunch of hicks that drive trucks. I'd be dead for sure! I love that rumble of the V8 too :)

If you race a motorcycle against a car should you tie 2500 lbs of weights to the motor cycle and then remove half of the v8's pistons? Equal is moronic, two vehicles against each other and each has its advantages and disadvantages, that the whole point of the competition between the design of each one. Rotary's can make a lot of horse power and stay light weight and that's the whole idea.

The FD RX7s looks way better than any mustang. Not to mention handles 10 times better in the corners. I've driven both and the FD is more fun and rare. Not common boring played out cars that everyone has.

Okay, enough of all this arguing based on what you think. Here are the facts:
RX-7: produced from '93-'95 as a track ready car, capable of mid 5-second 0-60 times. Its quarter mile time is 14 seconds flat at 100 mph. Mid $30,000 range.
Mustang Cobra: An '03-'04, similar to the cobra in the the video does 0-62 in 4.4 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.9 seconds at 111 mph. $34,860 is the price.
Bottom line.... the guy in the Cobra can't drive and Mustangs are better.
I'm not saying it is you dumb fuck, I'm saying that any car that has to rely on a bottle is pathetic. It was a completely unrelated argument about ricers in general, not just RX-7s.
250 bhp would be a better assumption and that's only the stock rating. and every fd comes stock with twin turbo's and the ones that are single are aftermarket mods

@ganzeytyler they can easily last over 200k miles it's just alot of people can't be bother with proper maintenance and then complain when their motor is blown a rotary over 3k miles after your last oil change is like a piston motor 6k miles after and a oil leak your playing with fire and your gonna get burned just do oil changes properly check for any oil leaks, don't turn the car of then turn it right back on flooding the motor and your on the road to a 200k mile rotary

people only talks about speed & rotary is known & loved by ownwers not couse speed . people that own rotarys love the engine couse of sound ,smooth ride & perfect handling. rx8 is a $30,000 car that beats vette & gt-r in expert comparicion test . check "motor trend" or "car & driver". I extra care & poor gas milage but 95% rx8 owner love the car & spend money in car couse as soon you drive it you fall in love with car. check "rx8 mx5 my sport rides" & I really missing my rx7 93.

@gtbol135qw Are you on crack? A Shelby GT500 is a 12 second car with trap speeds around 115, give or take. Not to mention, the car in the video isn't even a GT500. It's an 03-04 Cobra. Which, is actually just as fast as a GT500. So, I'm not sure where you got 14.5@95MPH at. The new V6 Mustang is faster than that even. lol

@swordscream Actually my RX-8 has 8 airbags and a 5 star safety rating, what the shitstang have? I have always liked Mustangs and owned a nice 5.0 but people with closed minds like yours push me away from them every day. BTW Rx-7's and RX-8's don't have 4 cylinders, they have Rotary engines which have no cylinders and are smaller than a 4 cylinder, but in this video, it is walking all over a super charged V8.

@RotaryGTUs -sigh- The 4vs actually respond very well, but they are just expensive in general to mod. Yet, my point is the Rx-7's weight is what makes the 1.3l so great. Take away that weight and it pretty much is a useless engine. RX-8 is the prime example. Hence, why i said do a 4.6l 4v or 2v swap into the RX-7 and the 1.3l won't compete. 13b is only about 180-190lbs lighter than the 4.6 DOHC block.

@Texarmageddon The RX-8 is slower because it has less torque because it isnt turbo charged. It does weigh 250 lbs more than the 7 but if it came with twin turbos, like a 7, it would be more powerful than and just as fast, if not faster. The whole point in a Rotary car is a smaller lighter car with equal weight distribution, so why would you take away the weight advantage to make them equal? If we wanted equal why not just run to two of the exact same cars against each other at all times?

What i was saying is that the Rotary engine itself has no true advantage. Th RX-7 was light by nature. The one guy criticized how 4.6s can't get past the rotary. I took this as an engine comment not the car.

@Texarmageddon The RX-7 T/MA was 2,862lbs which we both know had a power lvl to compete only because of the turbos. Swap the DOHC 4.6 that brings you to 3,046lbs. The engine may bring you to a 53/47(could be more) and that's still better than most cars(370z for instance). In all, I just wanted to say to say that in equal bodies the 4.6 engine is a rather good engine. Yet, it is just in a heavier body than the RX-7

@Texarmageddon Ford makes a good motor and they make their cars a reasonable price for the performance they produce. The 4.6 4 valve from the 03 Cobra is a mean ass motor capable of 1000 hp with stock internals. The amazing thing about the 1.3 liter Rotary is it is only 3 moving parts and capable of 550 hp w stock parts, or for about $3000 you can rebuild it capable of 800-900 hp (check out V8 killa from crispeed on youtube 687 rwhp) The great thing about these cars is their light weight design.

@Texarmageddon The base model RX-7 1993-1995 was 2789 lbs and the R1 was 2800 even, the heavier ones with body kits and stuff were 2862. The thing is many of the parts in an RX-7 or 8 are moved near the center to give it a perfect center of gravity, the good part about the small motor is they are able to move it behind the front axles to where it is almost a mid engine, and they do the same with the gas tank by putting it in front of the rear axles. Not many cars have this much detail.

Check out the Furai which uses a 2.0 liter 3 rotor and makes 440 hp on e85 with no turbos, besides the Cobra uses a super charger so I don't know what your getting at. Also to make more than the power the 4.6 makes stock you have to do modifications, and there are people that modify the 1.3 Rotary to turn 14000+ RPMs and make plenty of power without a turbo. Both can make plenty of power if in the right hands.

W/D i completely forgot about the placement of the engine. I'm not saying the rotary can't be modded to higher levels. I'm just stated for drag purposes only, if we went N/A on two RX-7s one with a 4.6 swap the 4.6 will take it. Yet, on the track the Rotary would be a strong competitor.

@Texarmageddon Like i said earlier, they have to figure out how to make all three of those at once. Have you seen the RX-8? It's priced almost higher than every reputable mid-level sport car, and gets worse gas mileage than every mid-level sport car. A twin-turbo or 3 rotary engine is going to shoot the price up. The rotary engine is still facing the same problems as to why it's been shunned year after year. It hasn't become beneficial.

Yes I'll agree I wish it came from the factory about 3-4 tenths faster in the 1/4 but just as I would do with any sports car I buy I will purchase upgrades, and with a SC or Turbo it can make 375-425 hp on the motor (not to the ground) which is right there with most of the really higher end muscle cars, but it weighs any where from 400-1100 lbs less than any of them. Dodge srt8's weigh 4000-4200 lbs! look it up.

Yet, you have to remember that cars still have regulations to meet, and if the car doesn't meet the min. reqs. the car is in a lose/ lose situation. People will take the car that get better straight numbers. People will take the car that gets better MPG. Ultimately, almost all piston and rod engine cars are doing better in both those. Lastly, companies are taxed if they don't meet the reqs. MPG matters whether you want it to or not.

@Texarmageddon I own a 2005 RX-8 6 speed and with only slight modifications I am door to door with my friends 2007 Mustang GT 4.6 liter 5 speed. Yes the RX-8 is not very fast especially the way the factory released it with a very rich fuel mixture for emissions purposes, but the fact that a car with such a small motor can contend with motors triple its size is what is impressive to me. Take a 1.3 liter piston motor & tell me how much hp it makes. Rotary cars are designed for track not strip.

@Chrisnuzzo76 I like the rx8, but it feels kinda like a toy car. Amazing handling because of it's weight. There is always a trade off though, I'm 6'1 and can sit in the back seat of a 07 GT. I had to sit indian style in my friends rx8! lol I feel safer in the mustang due to it's size. (Star crash ratings are for "like sized" vehicle crashes) I live in kansas with a bunch of hicks that drive trucks. I'd be dead for sure! I love that rumble of the V8 too :)

If you race a motorcycle against a car should you tie 2500 lbs of weights to the motor cycle and then remove half of the v8's pistons? Equal is moronic, two vehicles against each other and each has its advantages and disadvantages, that the whole point of the competition between the design of each one. Rotary's can make a lot of horse power and stay light weight and that's the whole idea.

The FD RX7s looks way better than any mustang. Not to mention handles 10 times better in the corners. I've driven both and the FD is more fun and rare. Not common boring played out cars that everyone has.

Okay, enough of all this arguing based on what you think. Here are the facts:
RX-7: produced from '93-'95 as a track ready car, capable of mid 5-second 0-60 times. Its quarter mile time is 14 seconds flat at 100 mph. Mid $30,000 range.
Mustang Cobra: An '03-'04, similar to the cobra in the the video does 0-62 in 4.4 seconds, 1/4 mile in 12.9 seconds at 111 mph. $34,860 is the price.
Bottom line.... the guy in the Cobra can't drive and Mustangs are better.
