John Hughes is a god in my opinion. Here in the UK, it's always Spielberg who gets the nod, but I've always been with Hughes all the way. Changing subject though (slightly) John Parr, who recorded the score for St Elmo's Fire lives just down the road from me. lol!
Hey hepcathottie! You could get a date you don't have to sit in acting like a fat guy with acne and no selfasteme. Just slab on some basic make-up and get out there. I'm serious you could get a guy and be a normal person. Go for it!
You may notice a common theme through most of these 80s teen dramadies: kids complaining about their parents. There was a measure of distrust and a shade of hostility between teens and their parents. Alot of us probably weren't "buddies" with our parents. And that aspect is most accurately captured in these films, IMO. Have a good weekend.
I agree with you. I think that is what a lot of the teen dramadies are missing also they are trying to hard. What kid doesn't complain about their parents but most movies I have seen today everything has some moral to the story and/or everything is patched up in 85 minutes or so. Life isn't that simple.
Yeah, rebelliousness and angst are universal among teens of differing generations. The flicks in question are definatley a product of their time. On one hand the characters (esp. the adults) are caricatures. To the other, I think Hughes had a certain insight. To be friends with your parents, back then, would've been viewed as abnormal, even pathological. The relationship between parents and their teens, today, is a noticably different dynamic.
i will always remember john hughes when i see home alone, especially the poster
