  • hahahaha lol! this trick is difficult to do, but the effect is not very good for filming

  • guy on the right looks like Matt leBlanc :)

  • Hitchcock's Vertigo scene can be seen here: watch?v=D0bV2gh4E7Y#t=2m06s

  • Man, this one is good. Almost as professional-looking as Hitchcock and Spielberg. Not quite, but certainly close to.

  • one of my favorite movies, ever.

  • this is really tough to do!

  • The shot was so good that people actually thought it was bad greenscreen.

  • I could watch this for hours.

  • The first time I did ecstasy, this happened to me as I tried to use an exit at my job. I never know how to describe it so I used to call it a fish lens effect but now I know what it is...

  • @FinalExitRadio jokin right? u mean mdma can make your brain transtrav ? awesome

  • @GadgetVision no, I'm serious. The closer I walked to the door the more it looked like to me I was pulling away from it. I think my eyes were mis-focusing. It kept getting brighter too. It was like looking through a dslr camera.

  • @FinalExitRadio no way takin it though, but it's just funny to hear that

  • WOOOH am i high?

  • This shot is incredibly difficult to pull off correctly. The actual smoothness of the shot is not simply about a camera operator's skill but rather in the precision of following the mathematical equation for this shot. To be perfectly smooth, distance = width / 2tan (FOV / 2).

  • La Haine, what a great MOvie!

  • Wow!~

  • This is the first shot in the film of them in central Paris and out of their environment, it is supposed to be unsteady to achieve the effect of disorientation. This is reinforced by the fact that the audio is changed from stereo to mono at this point in the film to 'switch-it-up' and make the audience feel more unease (for lack of a better word) to better sympathise with the characters.

I studied the shit out of La Haine, it's fucking awesome.

  • @thetrilogicbeast That's cool and all, but I'm kind of in a rush and really just want my Venti and muffin. Thanks bro, you can keep the change.

  • Parallax distortion?

  • oh shit

  • la haine

  • They obviously had a long hallway to work with!

  • THE BUILDINGS ARE GROWING!

  • great example of this techniques "off-putting" effect. Would have looked a bit better with a steadier hand and zoom. oh. and that guy walking back and forth totally took away from the effect. lame.

  • great hahaha

  • that was disgusting. i bet he doesn't have a hard time finding women.

  • This is the vertigo effect, far easier to do with a good zoom and a dolly than with a green screen.

I just saw this movie yesterday and noticed this take too. It was a bit out of context, not sure what they tried to show with this other than a cool take.

  • @juanitomp In fact, it's not just a cool effect. Sure it is, and it shows the talent of a young director at this time, but more important it the frame that want to grow, but it can't. You'll notice that barely all the film contain close frame and the image is very restrained.

Sorry for my bad english though :P

  • @madococo I liked the movie, although my French is not good enough to understand it all. Vincent Cassel is great.

I still believe that some of the effects are over used in this film.

The vertigo effect is nice if you want to set the viewer in some specific mood. Here I don't think it worked very well.

The movie was well filmed and well acted. So I don't complain about it :-)

  • @juanitomp Oh wll, I didn't that of you, just explaining :P. Although, I think the samething of you, Kassovitz over use that kind of effects, it's a fact that he is searching himself.

  • I could have done with out the spitting.

  • @Commonsensitivity watch the film

  • @tominator0x0 where can I see the full version?

  • This was not done by green screen. La Haine was filmed on location in the Paris Bayeux.

This shot would've been EXTREMELY difficult to pull off. Not only do you have two movements to worry about (tracks and then zoom) but you need to keep focus during both. It would've taken a really good focus puller and many, many takes to get this. You can see that it goes soft a bit towards the end anyway, but still - great shot.

  • is it real? it looks far to exaggerated

  • That almost made me get sick. From the fast movement.

  • la Haine - great film from what I remember!

lol green screen -- it would be a lot smoother if it was, that's for sure!!

Track the camera back and zoom-in using the lens! This is done manually both the zoom-in and follow focus. Not easy! All about lens choice and knowing what certain lenses do! There is knowledge and theory to this art as well as creativity! Which a lot of people totally forget!

  • man, thats awesome!

  • This whole movie is a clinic of great shots!

  • Before green screen....before digital, back when visual effects were accomplished the hard way. Ingenuity at its best!

  • Wrong.

  • The Master of filmmaking talking...if this was green screen it would be alot smoother and different

  • it almost looks like a crappy atempt to greenscreen. haha. i guess the effect just worked really well

  • I agree. I'm half decided if it is or isn't green screen, but does look like a really bad greenscreen attempt, but if it was not done digitally then it's a TERREFIC shot!

  • Beautiful shot

  • it kind of makes me dizzy

  • vertigo zoom

  • ya luks a lil fake....

  • ok, now in english.

  • how the fuck????? crazy zoom. slick movie, in my top 3 best ever films.

  • I think it's all three. It is a dolly zoom against a green screen. The background pixelates too much, and if you watch closely the forground characters will just faster then the background.

  • no greenscreen. zooming in makes the depth of field more narrow, so the background got blurred.

  • Comment removed

  • No, not green screen. Reverse tracking (dolly zoom). Probably the most extreme one I've seen in a film. Done by pulling the camera back and zooming in simultaneously.

  • awesome

  • I think, Your film knowledge about film = Zero

  • @nicroz18 Your film knowledge about film...? Redundancy at its finest.

  • awesome film.

  • That slag was huge. Boy I'd hate to be the 1st AC/ Focus Puller for that shot

  • it was great in the start then nope

  • did they use a motion controle camera?

  • dolly zoom

  • that was either super dolly zoom or greenscreenlol

    must havelike 20x zoom

  • @KURTLOL it looked like greenscreen

  • Looks like greenscreen. Is it in a studio?
