Anybody have any idea how he's getting that sound out of the guitar at the start of the video, is he using a pedal or something to bring out the harmonics? thanks
@Moshermini It might be that it was where he was playing, and the guitar might have something to do with it too. Since he's playing an es-335, it has hallow wings, on both sides of the body, and that probably allows for some harmonics to come through with the feedback you get when smacking a neck. That's about my best guess
I wonder if Robert Johnson had any idea in 1936, that in the year of 2010, one of the most talented people on the planet would be singing his lyrics, and continuing his legacy... and that john mayer... would have 1000's of teenage girls singing the lyrics that robert johnson wrote all them years ago.. John Mayer.... Thanks for keepin the blues alive my good man!!!!
he is all masters blended into one , all dead giants came back to life in one..
his music has depth and soul and all the riches that need to be.
great songwriter and a poet too ! How many of us could manage to convince our gods to play behind us as a rythm guitarist like he did with Eric Clapton...
All that young generation of followers will grow up with him and follow him everywhere..He is saving souls !
I shd admit, I have gone through zillions of records and he is the one
let John Mayer does his blues pop thingy and Joe Bonamassa does his blues thing. They are the new generation guitarists. Doing their best to cater modern crowd while maintaining their blues feel.
All I can say is I hope JM doesn't get killed in a fucking plane crash....because I want to listen to his music for the REST of my life, and if something took him away from us, yes, it would immortalize him forever, but FUCK MAN, that would truly be the DAY the music truly, once and for all, died.

@joshua9312 seriously thats wht you do to get good music is an aural tradition by using tabs your just moving your fingers to the frets instead of actually hearing it in your head

Johns played his cards well when he was younger. Blues isn't really in mainstream music today but through doing pop music and gaining a following with dedicated fans, people are gonna follow him wherever he goes now. I can honestly say that I never really listened to blues before hearing his pop stuff. Through him i've listened to so many blues artists. Anyone who says hes a wanna be blues man is retarted. He was smart and used his talent in the most efficient way.
@yucky1336 For me it kinda went the other way; I've started listening to more pop now, which I'm grateful, because it got me away from metal! John Mayer made me listen to more blues too though. Anyway, he really makes the world keeping the blues and the great music from the old days, and makes the retarded people who listen to shit listen to music made with passion! Gotta love this guy!
Yep, I was 15 when I started with guitar, but I played classical guitar was obsolutely boring shit, because I loves blues, funk and rock. I stopped doing it and went learning on my own, it's hard, but I'll manage because blues, funk and rock, ROCK! x)
FUCK YEAH. His guitarplay is so fucking sweet. In all the midst of all dance songs these days it is so amazing to have someone stepping up like this. SRV |,,|
Couldn't agree anymore even if i tried! The fact that he gets small girls to listen to the blues in the first place! More than any hater could do! It won't be long before many of the blues legends as we know will be gone, either dead or too old for gigs - and then what do we have left? Good thing John is keeping the blues alive!
Gaaf! Alleen jammer van de slechte regie. De wat oudere gitarist is al een 'half uur' bezig met zijn solo, terwijl de camera gericht blijft op John Mayer die wat rondloopt.
