It's not the technique, it's the contortions. He reminds me of the late lamented Glenn Gould, who would have blown a gasket playing this at his usual presstisimo.
Shub has a bad technique? Low wrist and more...what a nonsense! Have you watched his performance of Mendelssohn's Fantasie in f sharp minor? This guy is an incredible pianist!
Watch the Thirteenth Van Cliburn Competition live starting May 22 through June 7 at the Cliburn website. The webcast will feature live streaming of the performances, online voting, commentary, backstage access, all chamber music rehearsals with the Takacs Quartet and orchestral rehearsals with James Conlon, and more. Its free and open to everyone.
According to Joseph Horowitz in "The Ivory Trade", Schub disliked this performance, considering it to be far too fast.
When the Cliburn foundation wanted to release a live recording of this recital over his objections, he retaliated by rushing to record the same works with a different label, causing the live recording to be scrapped.
Maybe it's the bad sound quality of the registration, but I think Brahms would be played more aggressive especially in the bass part. In my opinion this performance is too soft, even though it's a great one.
Bad technique?? Nobody gets anywhere near the final of an international piano competition with bad technique. That alone shows your comments up for nonsense. The guys is a picture of concentration! What the hell are you talking about. Are you watching a different vid?

Have never heard anything by Richter here. Have heard some good some bad. Never heard intelligent comment as to why.

Criticizing an international pianist's technique huh? You guys must be GOOD! How many Van Cliburns or Tchiakovsky's have y'all played in??

HORRIFYING pedaling. The pedale is not an on/off key. There are various levels of pedaling.

Oh! I see! I thought you meant
"not" bad technique.
Sorry!

What? You call pressing your fingers into the piano and keeping your wrist lower than the keys good?

Bad technique. No concentration. Pretentious gestures.
BOOOOORING performance. Very untouching.

no offense...
but he looks like a nerdy version of Rudy Julliani, which is a very bad thing
pretty conservative playing too, i think i much prefer Richter and Yudina with this piece
