I went on-line & quickly found the R.M.C. It seems like a simple procedure to get a license. If you get the owner's permission, you can sell there. A big mall might be hard, but a non-competing small business (or even door-to-door) might work. The code doesn't seem to be overly burdensom. He's got a good product. He could do well if he complies with the law, establish a spot with permission, then he could start making some good money & not get kicked out again.

What is up with this video? We need enforcement of these types of activities to keep our city from becoming a place like TJ where there are illegal vendors all over the place subjecting us to disease and insects. Why do you think they pull you over when you come back into the state and ask you if your transporting fruit or plants. @andrew20x He didn't only violate property laws, he also violated municipal code by failing to pay for his license and by failing to pay the sales tax to the city. He probably also broke Federal Law because it's unlikely that he'll report his income truthfully. Common, what does it take to get a little street vendor permit? 25 Dollars? At least he could sell his bonzai trees legally just like most other businesses in town do.

He'll just move to a different corner where he'll continue his activities. Look at it another way...He tried to sell his stuff on private property. Would you like to have just anyone show up on your front lawn to do business while you're out of town? If this would be permitted, where would you draw the line?

What a damn disgrace. The erosion of property rights takes the choice from the property owner's hand and puts it firmly in the hands of law enforcement. This isn't just happening on your side of the country, but also in the midwest. I'm in Ohio and they love shutting down small home-based garden shops whenever they pop up on suburban lawns. I suppose it only serves the politicos to have big businesses thrive - progressive taxation being what it is.

@gzies1 It should be a matter of conscience for the cops - like it should be if a cop is asked to do anything unethical or morally suspect. If the bank complains, then fine; it's their lot so it's their decision (or so it should be). The lot doesn't belong to the state. It's not a public park. The economy sucks right now and people need to make a living. Let 'em do their thing if it isn't bothering the people directly impacted by the activity. Such as the property owner(s).

Just because the property owner is not on his property at the time, doesn't make it right for just anyone to set up shop there.

@gzies1 In part, I agree with you. On the other hand, I don't think preemptive action is necessary in that instance. If someone set up shop on my lawn and used the space conscientiously - didn't destroy the garden or trample the flowerbeds, or leave litter behind, I might still be annoyed and tell him to get lost or pay rent, but I'd be more angry that the cops usurped my right to chose how to respond to the situation.

Sorry, this one is Wrong George. If I owned a business(that was CLOSED ON SUNDAY)and drove by and saw This man with This set-up, or Any other for that matter I would throw his ass out. After all, I would be leasing THAT space, PAYING rent etc. If you let him stay, MY parking lot would become a FLEA MARKET within a couple weeks. I would move him off and keep him off. I went on-line & quickly found the R.M.C. It seems like a simple procedure to get a license. If you get the owner's permission, you can sell there. A big mall might be hard, but a non-competing small business (or even door-to-door) might work. The code doesn't seem to be overly burdensom. He's got a good product. He could do well if he complies with the law, establish a spot with permission, then he could start making some good money & not get kicked out again.
