Thank you for your nice comments and always great to hear from so many Ex PG county folks. That comment was made on the 1st version which is 5.5 mins long but did you also see the 2nd version on my page that is 12.5 mins long? I also have a 3rd version which is >17 minutes but is too large to upload on Youtube. I have a link for that show and cannot pot that in this comment. If you email me at billb@sunline.net I will gladly send you that link. Thanks again.
Thanks so much for posting this and the other videos. Remember the McDonald's jingle, "Just 47 cents for a three-course meal at McDonald's, the drive-in with the golden arches?" @venicebill . . .
Wonderful video, I was born there in 1950, grad. from DuVal also and stayed until 82 then moved to FL also, seems everyone did. Now I'm what's know as a half back, living here in TN. We went through Hurricane Andrew, enough said. Still only a days drive to see the family back in MD. So many good memories brought back with your video, THX, looking forward to the next!
Yeah, you guys be safe down there. We are about 40 miles inland from the Gulf so we should be fine. I started HS at Bladensburg in 60 and then they built DuVal in 61 and I got "ousted" out to the middle of nowhere as it was back then. Not anymore. I hear from my Brother who lives in Bowie and is a retired teacher that DuVal has become a very rowdy and dangerous school. What a shame..
@retiredRNinFL Thanks again for your comment. I hope you have also seen the Version 2 which is longer then the original one. I remember in 62 when DuVal first opened up, my oldest sister graduated in 63. Good luck with the hurricane(s) this season.
AWSOME!! Gave me warm fuzzies. I grew up in West Lanhamn Hills (1948-1955) and my father was a volunteer fireman at WLH firehouse. "Sceeter" comes to mind. God rest his sole. Moved to Wes Hyattsville in 1962 when first married and then to Glenridge. Moved to FL in 1970 after the riots of '68..PG County will always be home to me..Thanks so much for making this video. What a treasure..:)
@retiredRNinFL Thx for the nice comments and oh yes I do remember Skeeter from West Lanham Hills. One of my uncles I believe worked there at the Fire Dept, his name was Pete Vermillion. I left PG county in 1982 and never looked back and I am also now in SW Florida waiting to retire LOL
Did anyone happen to notice the bullet hole in the Du Val High School Tiger Logo on the brick wall at the end. I grew up on Macbeth Street and went to Bladensburg Elementary and Jr.High before moving to Annapolis. But my brother Harry graduated from Bladensburg High School. I have many fond memories of that time and growing up in the 60's and 70's in P.G County. Thanks for bring them back.
This was awesome. Wish Northwestern High School was in the video, but it sure brought back many memories now that I haven't lived in the area for many years. Thank you!
Thanks for the memories. My first job was at Cook's Supermarket at Capitol Plaza in 1977. I graduated from BHS (not the one pictured) in 1978. I went to the old one, it was down the hill from Gateway Garden apartments where I lived. We went to the Italian Inn in the late sixties and sometimes my coworkers and I still go there. Amazing it is still open! Thanks again and my husband is going to love looking at 1950's cars.
@L4A7PearlJam Thx for the comments and a couple yrs ago I visited my son in Frederick and we drove all the way to Italian Inn and the pizza and ambiance is still the same..
I must say that I really enjoyed this video. It did bring back very good memories of 'the good ole days'. I grew up in Lanham and recognized many of the locations. My mother used to work at Glen Dale Hospital and I graduated from DuVal in 1973. Thanks for sharing!
These are wonderful! Lived in Mattapony Apts til 69 when we moved to Glenn Dale;learned to swim in that pool in 64 or 65.Mom taught at BHS, Dad at Parkdale. She and I are both looking for photos to share with you. Perhaps someone will come up with a picture of the dreaded Goat Man that lurks near Glenn Dale Hospital. LOL! Thanks for the memories, Bill!! Liz (Duval Class of 76)
@LandlockedinAZ Good comments. Mattapony Apts I was lifeguard in summer of 1967 and loved it. Yeah maybe the Goatman will eventually show up and i will find the picture LOL
Loved the old photos! Especially PG Plaza, Capital Plaza, McDonalds, Cheverly theater, and DuVal! I have no pictures, and I worked at Camera store in Capital Plaza in high school! Went to McDonalds alot when it opened (after Hot Shoppe was popular when in grade school) and Cheverly Theater in first thru third grade! (ST. Ambrose) Thanks again for memories! Robin (class of 1969 DuVal) now in Florida
@rlsboca Hi there and thanks for the nice comments. Wow it is a small world in deed--I graduated class 68 and always were at those places back in the day. I also am in SW Florida small town called Venice. Left MD in 1982 and never looked back. I married a gal from class of 69 but div after 7 years. BTW I am working on a re-make with >40 pics so watch for it this weekend My youtube name is venicebill Take care
Several of my BHS friends have accessed your site and loved it!! When I was first directed to it you had 749 hits-- almost 3000 now! Contact me back on Google, let me know your name and we can chat offline. I'll look you up in my DHS yearbook!
I taught PE at DuVal from 65-68...great place to teach then...funny to see the old pix as I take my grandchildren to Chevery Theater-- now "live" programs for kids; go to Glen Echo--now owned by Park and Planning, again for kids; Greenbelt Theater; Lustine's is now a yuppie gym;CP Airport open again after being closed due to 9/11...my cousins, Larry and Gary Myers, are DHS grads...maybe we can make a deal to use your stuff at our BHS 50th reunion? Winkie Overton, BHS '61, UMd '65
@TheBPO111 What a nice surprize to hear from you and I remember you for sure--I crossed the line going to the girls side of the gym a few too many times and you sure reemed me out LOL I graduated 1968 and of course you may use whatever you like for reunion or friends. Thx so much for the response and there are a few different Duval class groups on favcebook. take care.
Had fun visiting some old haunts. YOu might have opened up a can of worms and could be making more videos from all the pics you might get. I hope you joined Friends of the Mighty Mo and Hot Shoppes on FB. You will meet other friends there.
@MissAgosh Thanks for the comment and heads up on the FB groups--I will definitely check them out. I have not received any pics yet but am finding more on my own so look for a re-make of that show this weekend on my youtube channel under name "venicebill". Thx again.
Fun video. I still remember the night we toliet papered Duval's Coutyard in '69.Still have pictures of myself and friends hugging the tiger with empty toliet paper rolls on it's ears.Good times, good times.
@bladensburger LOL Soooooooooooooooooo that was YOU that did that huh? LOL In that case perhaps you should share your evidence for the world to see hahaha I would love to see that picture. please? please? LOL
My mom grew up in Hyattsville and I spent a lot of my childhood coming down this way to visit her parents. I recently moved to College Park, and it's been fun rediscovering the area together. Thanks for the video, it's neat to see what things were like when my grandparents lived here!
@stupidsecurity Thanks for the comment and I also graduated in 68. May i ask who you are, we might know each other. LOL BTW I will be doing a re-make this weekend with added photos so be on the lookout. take care.
Again, thanks for the memories. I have to mention that I also used to work at the infamous G.C. Murphy Co. at P.G. Plaza while I was in high school. Hahaha!
Again, thanks for the memories. I have to mention that I also used to work at the infamous G.C. Murphy Co. at P.G. Plaza while I was in high school. Hahaha!
Wow, thanks so much! I used to go to Ledo's all the time and graduated from Northwestern High School at Cole Field House. I had an apartment in Bladensburg and went to the Friendly Inn with my boyfriend and his Cheverly VFD buddies every week. And you are right, Hexmom, it was--and still is, as far as I'm concerned, Friendship Airport.
@Kateire Thx for the comments and i sure remember all those places in deed. Before Capital Plaza, we always went xmas shopping at PG Plaza. I think everyone graduated at Cole field house back in those days. In the summer of 1967, I was lifeguard at Mattapony Apts in Bladensburg--very small world.
I didn't grow up in the County, but now 16 members of my family live in Hyattsville. It's nice to see what it was like for those who were here earlier.
@Hexmom You are absolutely correct about BWI. Last night I found MORE pics from other sites and will be re-making the show this weekend so look for the updated version at my venicebill youtube page. Yes you surely can use it which is why I make these shows for public viewing. So you went to DuVal in 62??? That was the first year right? One of my sisters graduated in 63. Small world. Thx for the comments.

Thanks for the great effort. I will look at more soon. I thought the Mo was near Mt. Rainier?
It was a mile up a road from the Drive In Theater near the Two big Natural Gas tanks. A lot of cars and burgers. Give me a Mo and a coke.
