  • How do I change my voice memo from m4a to m4r?

  • same here it is only a song in my itunes

  • If you're in Windows, make it show file extension in folder options (Control Panel, Folder Options, uncheck Hide extensions from known file types)

  • changing the extension won't change the file type. It will upload into itunes but as a song not a ringtone. Under properties it still says m4a. The whole title says (name of song).m4r.m4a. I can't get it to change and its frustrating me.

  • @zarkobiz I dont have a ringtones section on my itunes. any help?

  • Thanks

  • his computer is different than mine. mine is an apple mac and its so much more complicated than that!

  • it was very helpful but he talked to low for me to hear!

  • Can you also do this with songs if you've clipped them so they're shorter than 30 seconds?

  • Thanks for this - I always wondered how to make a ringtone of my cat purring as he sounds like an old phone! Now I can see how easy it is and its worked a treat! Thanks again!!

  • Thanks for this tutorial.. It helps!~

  • I've already got my voice memo recorded. It's the full chorus to Avenged Sevenfold's Nightmare.

  • it didnt name itself m4a on mine please help me

  • Thank you.

  • Thanx a lot - worked like a charm!!

  • Thumbs this up so people with windows 7 can see:

if you cant rewrite the extenstion (m4a) go to any folder and click Organize at the top right corner, then click Folder and search options. Then click view and scroll down the check boxes until you see "hide extensions for known file types". This shouldn't be checked. And that should fix it :)

  • @JustATaco71 THANKS THIS WORKED!!! I THUMBS UP :-D

  • THANK YOU! :D

  • THANK YOU! You rock!

  • @burtonchick112 I'm a mac and this is how I did it: you right click the icon from you desktop or the file name or wherever else, and click get info, find name & extension and change the "a" at the end of the name and change it to "r"

  • What if I don't have a "ringtones" in my Itunes folder?

  • @LordFatmon Once you've changed the file over to the m4r drag it from your desk top to the "music library" in iTunes and it will automatically create the "ringtones" folder :-D I found out from google and it worked for me!

  • This is a easier way

    1. Download "a mp3 2 ringtone 4 free" from the app store, if you want something new and creative use your memos record anything then send it to your email. From there use google chrome, it downloads it as a song so no need to change anything.

    2. From ITunes the memo is a song sync it to your iPhone.

    3. Now go to your app "a mp3 2 ringtone 4 free" it's free BTW. Edit the memo using the app, you'll have to have your iPhone connected to your computer.

    4.Once finish with the

  • How do you make a voice memo, a text tone?

  • TRYING TRYING TRYING to do this but i CAN NOT change it to m4r (using windows 7) and i CAN NOT drag it into the ringtones folder.

    HELP??????

  • PRRR PRR!!!

  • the voice note or ringtones doesnt show up on my itunes

  • i cant do it i tried for hours i did it from my email bc it was easier help

  • Thank you very much :)

  • Does this work for the newest iphone for verizon? I tried this, but not ringtones folder i which to place file. Tried to create the folder, but didn't work...help!

  • Thank you for clarifying this! To anybody who tried to do the initial step of copying the memo from iTunes application instead of from the folder - I apologize for not being clear enough about this.

  • you do not have to go through all this to change the extension. Once the ringtone is emailed to your email, double click on it so it opens up in itunes and plays. then down load the program (Phonezoo.com) it is awsome, click on create ringtone and browse to the folder where song is and open it up and thats it, it converts the extension automatically and your done.

  • I had the same problems as many on here! wouldn't allow me to drag file onto desktop (I have PC) ... I also emailed it to myself and it said it couldn't copy to my iphone because it was not able to play on my phone... soo after A LOT of trial and error! I learned that I can sync my phone, and instead of drag it from Itunes to desktop to get into the actual itunes folder, find voice memo folder then copy memo to desktop and change file name! Worked! Maybe because I altered name of memo?

  • I cant figure out how to change the extension.

  • It wont let me drag the voice memo from itunes to desktop, just shows a black circle with a diagonal line through it

  • @TouchMyStickGaming Don't do it in iTunes - do it from its folder. If it still doesn't work select the file, click copy on the edit menu and then go to desktop, right-click on an empty area and select paste. Are you on a Windows or a Mac computer?

  • @zarkobiz im on windows i go to edit copy right click paste and the little black stop sign comes up again

  • Thank you so very much for your help. Your instructions worked PERFECTLY! I won't ever pay for a ringtone again!

  • thanks very much i'm subbing

  • Thank you sooo much!! This was extremely helpful and I am very happy to be able to do this now. I very much appreciate your help!

  • @burtonchick112 Have you tried this: Click the file while holding Ctrl button, Select "Get Info" and change m4a to m4r under "Name & Extension"?

  • took me a few attempts and had to read through some of the posts but got there in the end. Only had my iPhone for 2 months and know how to do something a 4yr iPhone owner doesn't!! Thank you for your help! :o)

  • When I try to email it to myself it crashes...

  • @Smurfwitautism Did you try to get it to your computer by synchronizing to iTunes instead of emailing it? Also, make sure your voice memo is not too long and too big to attach - iPhone ringtones shouldn't be longer than 30 seconds.

  • @zarkobiz ok man i dont know what your doing with your computer, i emailed my rington to myself, but im having trouble changing it to a m4r format... i sync my iphone 4 to my itunes and now its on itunes. but i still cant change it to a m4r.... i also dont have a ringtone option or tab ether....

  • Is there a way to convert the voice memo to a text ringtone instead of a call ringtone?

  • I just plugged in my phone, and drug the voice memo to music, right click on the song, get info, change the info to Music (instead of Voice Memo) updated the name and then drug it to my ring tones on my I phone, it automatically did a sinc and showed up under my settings as a custom ring tone. Took about 20 seconds...

  • @shelbyelainejordan Sorry Shelbo, I guess I was signed on to your account......thats weird....

  • Thank you, FlyingRocketPenguins.

That answer applies to those of you on Windows. Since my knowledge of Mac interface is very limited, I invite Mac wizards to chip in.

  • guys to change it for m4r, go to the folder the file is in, go to Organize, then go to Folder and Search options, then go to View, and look for a little box that says "Hide Extensions and File types" If it's checked, uncheck it, then just rename your file with the end as m4r, and if it says that the file may become unusable, ignore it and do it anyway because it works.
