Awwww!! This is so beautiful, it was played at several family members funeral, I have always tried to find it through Xzibit's - Paparazzi sample....mean nothin'? Meh.....Tres powerful!!! (& morbid, makes me cry everytime)!!!
@emncaity You are quite right, except for the key change? The instruments are pervertid, but no key change. And I do not consider this version as popularized at all. I came into it by hazard, and I was somewhat horrified initially, but outside the UK it is not popular at all, thanks God!
This version is too biaised towards the choir and perverts the music score (which besides it is not clear and hard to hear), but it is understandable, provided the target public. If it aims the goal to approach the classical music to the grand mass, maybe Fauré could accept it exceptionnally...
Ugh. I understand what you're saying, but...first of all, key matters; each key has a specific color to it, a specific feel, and the key change affects everything. Secondly, the arrangement is so in-your-face and popularized--and for no apparent reason, IMHO, since invariably the public loves the original version anyway. Maybe I'm just prejudiced against unnecessary updating and attempts at "relevance," or whatever, but the original needs no changing.
Quite the best arrangement of Fauré I've heard - the emphasis on the voices and the little bits of horn are fantastic. I've come over a bit emotional hearing this! Lovely stuff
Lovely response , perhaps an ensemble of your friends with your infinite wisdom and musical guidance might make a more interesting piece with french cedar bagpipes and a piano from 1826 ! GET FOOOOOKED !
If people are still looking for copies of this version then Amazon had 18 new and used copies at last count ranging from 1p to £4.47. Which was 1am on the 3rd Dec 2009.
Perhaps I can help here as I sang on the recording, an adaptation of Faure's music by Elizabeth Parker. We were commissioned by the BBC in 1998 to do this and the recording was distributed by Telstar Records. It is no longer available for sale and we soon ran out of our own stock years ago through demand. We had great fun doing it, though.
Omg, It was used for Wimbledon too!! I've been hunting this specific theme down for 11 years since I heard it in 1998! Back then I recoreded it off the TV with a crappy mic onto tape. At last! It is found!
@matty7b37 This is beautiful, I used to listen to this on a chilled out album called utopia. I havent heard it in years. I is so powerful. I will sleep well tonight.
Fantastic. The actual bbc worldcup intro is on youtube using this music but the video quality aint that good. It's a shame as it sent shivers up my spine....

Recorded by the same lot as the equally hair-raising Champions League theme tune. I'd love to hear their version of Diamond Lights.

What a bizarre key for the Pavane.

It's one of the most beautiful and sorrowful melody. When I was high school student, belonged to the blass band and played this music.
