One question: how does it eject the cartrige? is there an ejector or is the cartrige just smased against the following rounds and the backsite of the magazine and thrown out this way?
@Tomatoebruce No welding involved, although I think I need to weld in the magazine well. There's an ejector, just a little knob sticking up from the trigger guard/mag latch piece. There's no extractor, though--the cartridge rockets out of the chamber under its own pressure!
@0rionsHammer It's have gotten 6 months since you write : "Absolutely! I've been experimenting with button-rifling DOM tubing, and casting aluminum, to make my own barrels." I wonder, where's the video?
hey mate, ive been reading ur posts on weaponeer, im impressed by ur build i have a question.. the front trunnion i know u made it from aluminum, has this peice been chambered as well? or just this just simply hold the chambered barrel in place?
Nope, in this build the front trunnion just holds the chambered steel barrel in place. I've experimented with directly chambering aluminum, and it looks promising for pistol rounds, and my one cast test barrel survived quite a few rounds, although I'm not sure how long the rifling would last...
@envythree They're ugly, but if they break, the bolt just doesn't go back into battery. The round will fire, the bolt will slam back against the rear trunnion, and that's it.
My next incarnation includes space for two internal recoil springs...
@nunvikingsofthesea Pure 100% blowback operation: no bolt lugs to fabricate, no receiver wings to align, no parts in tension to break off and kill you. Plus, the headspace is set automatically, because the bolt just pushed forward until it's stopped by the round. The only downside is the weight, with the bolt weighing about 1.5 pounds for this pistol round. For rifle rounds, the blowback design equations indicate you'd need a ridiculously heavy bolt...
@0rionsHammer hey great build, very impressed, I was also wondering, did you manage to make an extractor for it? Or is there no extractor on the bolt?
you said you planned on making another version with iron sights, are you going to go through with that? maybe release a mag dump video or a build/breakdown video?
In the US, you can't buy a pistol until you're 21, so you can't legally *build* a pistol until you're 21 either. You can definitely get a headstart by modding out airsoft guns, though...
7.62x25 Tokarev is a tiny little bottleneck round, only a bit longer than 9mm. 7.62x39 (AK), 7.62x51 (308), and 7.62x54R (Mosin) are all much bigger rifle rounds.
I wish Philip Luty was free, he probably would have figured out how to make one of these 100% homemade! But I will say, its a good bloody effort despite those god damn rubber bands!!
@taylorzack78 Probably not, look you cant see the part where the rubber bands are fastened to move with the charging handle so its probably to help hold on the receiver.
Neat! The same design should work fine for any autoloader pistol cartridge--9mm, 40 S&W, 45acp. You'd just need to find a compatible barrel and magazine...
The fire control group, pistol grip, magazine, and barrel are commercial, ordered parts. I build everything else--the receiver, trunnions, bolt, and firing pin.
Mail order seems to be the way to go--gunshows sometimes have some decent parts, but not very often!
Thompson submachine gun magazines are probably where it's at for 45acp hi-cap. They're double-stack, and hence a little tricky to get to feed properly, but should work with my basic design, and they're only about $20 each!
Yes it is legal under Federal Law. Your state may ban this pistol under "Assault Weapons" laws. If in a Pistol Registration state you may need paperwork from the police to build it first.
Of course this shows the fallacy of gun control laws. You can build anything you want if you don't follow the law.
Ah, I think it's legal to buy a used homemade gun, but the maker needs a federal manufacturer's license to build them for intentional sale. Building guns for your own personal use is OK.
@0rionsHammer- do you know of any homemade gun projects that are very simple, but are more than just a little zip gun? i like what you built here, but was thinking more along the lines of a .32 ......
It's tough to see, but there's a chunk of angle iron sticking out above the pistol grip to stop the bolt's rearward travel. The weaponeer link in the description has pictures...
There's actually a link to the weaponeer build thread available under "more info" above. I'd repeat the link here, but you can't add links here in the comments...
I love it!! i would have waited for the springs, instead of using rubber-bands as recoil springs. balls, man! I liked the way you did the barrel trunnion. was one screw enough to hold it in? better to pin the barrel in? Or were you going for the LEAST amount of mods to the prefab'd parts?
you should make a video showing how to build it

Your .22 model, did you ever get it to cycle reliably?
ELITEHAMSTER123 6 months ago
@ELITEHAMSTER123 Nope. I haven't played with it in years, so I'm not sure if it's the crappy chambering job or just a too-heavy bolt.

In your PDF about the gun you said that there were no extracters required. Does the shell get deformed from the gases?
bo0o0ms 1 year ago
@bo0o0ms There's no visible bulging on the fired cartridges, but I'm sure they get stretched at least a few thousands of an inch bigger.
Blowback action definitely does not require an extractor during a normal firing cycle, although it'd be handy to unload the thing without firing it!

what kind of cartridge is 7.62 tokarev? is it centerfire or rimfire?
ARTONY92 2 years ago
Centerfire. It's basically a stretched and necked-down 9mm case firing a 30cal projectile. Muzzle energy is around 500 ft-lb, about like 357 magnum.
