  • I lived near there when it was built. Forty years later it's torn down. Fast changes.

  • So sad, as many shopping malls are doing poorly and the manage does nothing to keep them up and also keeps raising the rent on vendors.

  • I used to go to this mall

  • Correction: Lakehurst Mall opened in August of 1971 not 1972.

  • build a bridge is great song choice

  • the casino that pohldriver mentioned is a dead issue afer many, many years of trying.

  • What is now at the mall?Another Wally-Mart?

  • @HattieLovesCattie Walmart, hotels, a gas station, restaurants, and a few strip malls.

  • @jonrev Thanks for the info.My town tore down a old mall I liked and put a real swanky outdoor shopping center. Its doing very well but I still miss the old mall.

  • I used to be a little ass kid in that mall. I member hating to go to JC Penny n Carson Piere Scott. I also remember we never left without a cinnabon. MMMMmmm...cinnabon.......

  • @420acid Cinnabon...those were kick ass!! They're making one at Gurnee Mills. UGH! I hate Gurnee Mills! Oh well!

  • first mall i came when i came to america was like 3 years old i remeber taking pictures with santa grea times

  • mixed retail space. so they are going to build another mall?

  • They basically carved a road through the mall site, then put a super Walmart, restaurants, and a gas station on the North end; and another strip mall and hotel on the South end. They also want to build a casino on the South end.

  • man i remember mongomery ward i hated to see this happend to lakehurst mall

  • We sold ourselves out to Ghetto Mills and now that I hate shopping at GM all we have is Walmart. Thank god we still have a few REAL malls like Woodfield, Old Orchard and Hawthorn.

7:24 is freeking spooky. This video brings back some good memories of my shoplifting days.

  • Kinda hits home and to anyone who grew up with there town mall, and see Best buy and Wal-mart come in and take over and close it down along with all you're memories.

  • Where is there a Best Buy in Fountain Square? The only thing close I can think of is the GameStop.

  • you don't remember st. charles mall which was drove out by jewel next door it was a great local mall charlestown has too many pricey anchors

  • I remember going into this mall and taking pictures for kindergarten since I missed mine when I went to Clark. I wouldn't have minded the mall staying there... I mean now there's a Wal-Mart there; when there already was one in Gurnee and now another in Zion.

    D'8

  • I wish they had kept Carson Prairie Scott it was still used I know that it had roof issues but it would have cost less than having the thing demoed

  • I miss Lakehurst Mall!!!! I used to work at Circusworld, hang out at Aladdin's Castle, eat corndogs, pizza rolls, egg rolls, and don't forget The Plum Tree!!!

  • Or was it The Gift Tree? Well anyway....I had no idea that this clip would make me feel so sentimental. Thanks for taking me back down memory lane.

  • I remember the plum tree! Aladdins was IT!

  • I don't under stand why people hate Gurnee mills so much? It was obviously the better mall if it drove an established mall out of buisness.

  • Gurnee Mills yes was the better mall of the two but I cannot stand its layout and it is poorly upkept. Even Lakehurst in its final days was cleaner than some parts of the Mills.

  • I dont know about the upkeep part. I havnt really seen Gurnee be a messy mall.(the bathrooms maybe?) I can name a few I think are messier. And what do you mean by layout? It all seems pretty striaght. I love all the entrances. I personally dislike Woodfield mall's layout. With it's 3 teirs and ramps. And I also dislike any outdoor mall. As a side note, ever been in Charlestown mall in St. Charles? That place is a ghost town.

  • @jonrev I agree with you!

  • @jonrev gurnee mills is a nightmare....how do you build something in a z pattern? What a moronic concept.

  • I miss Lakehurst. When my family moved to Waukegan back in '79, we used to go to Lakehurst a lot. Remember Wieboldt's? I remember KarmelKorn, Orange Julius, Circus World (my favorite place in the mall next to Aladin's Castle), Chess King, Egg Roll, Slicers, Hotsam, Tape World, Pono's Pizza, Kinney Shoes. Of course, JC Penney, and Carson Piere Scott, but the one store I dread to this day is Lane Bryant. I hated going to that store with my mother as a kid.

  • i used to go there when i was a little girl... so much fun, sooo many good memories.

  • This make me feel old I remeber when 102.3 would bring in the radio box thing and you had to press the button to see if you won any thing and the bitching metal shandler thing above the wishing pond. Aladins castle arcade and thats where i bought my first cd fucking gurnee mills killed us but I keep going untill the end infact I kept buying my concert tickets there.

  • lakehurt lovee!!

fuk gurnee millz it sukz soggy balls!!!!

  • I used to buy all my jeans from just pants that old white guy had all the latest jeans. I miss it so much it hurt seeing it get plowed

  • Yo, R.I.P. Lakehurst Mall things will never be the same RECORDTOWN,TAPEWORLD, CIRCUSWORLD (Childsword across the street) the best Gyro Sandwitches ever made handsdown no joke!!....I feel like you all who post here are my family ...WE should start a club! lol

  • Watching this video reminded me of Growing up in Waukegan , lol Jokers Wild, Hot sams and the arcade it killed me inside watching the mall die. I live in Lakewood Colorado now and watched A "Mills"" go up. It will never be the same as Lakehurst Mall and the memories . And lol I remember the Filipina Chick with the big hair. Gurnee Mills will not or can't be the memories We cherished growing up. R.I.P Lakehurst Mall and Thanks for the memories

  • Jonrev,it would be awesome to post a replay of this video with Motley Crue's"Home Sweet Home" and Bobaflex's"Home" as the background music. I was so depressed going to work last night after finding out the mall I grew up with is gone forever. I haven't seen Gurnee in over a decade. Californian malls suck cock compared to the malls we grew up with. And fuck Gurnee Mills........

  • This year will be the final year of the fair at its current site. Construction was to start this year but they got delayed due to the snow.

  • ..how sad.. i used to work @ Spencer Gifts back in 88..about to graduate WEHS. I remember Joker's Wild..Cinnabon..omg. memories..:D

  • In 1988 I was 12, and my sister and I still had to go into Spencer gifts behind our parents' backs. :-)

  • .lol.. maybe you saw me working @ Spencer Gifts? filipina girl with 'high' hairsprayed hair? worked evenings? lol i remember needing to have my parents with me and my brother when we went to Joker's Wild. lol

  • aladdins castle next to hot sam, pono's pizza, the gift tree, t-shirts plus i remember it all as well. too bad its all gone

  • this is crazy.. brings back so many memories! that big giant fountain.. you gotta drive all the way to woodfeild to get a cinnabon! cinnamonster just isn't the same =/

  • That was cool. I worked at Carson's mens dept - I wonder how Gurnee MIlls will fare when the new mall in Grayslake opens. Hmm. Many people would still rather shop at Lakehurst rather than Gurnee MIlls. Thanks for this.

  • Unfortunately there will not be a mall in Grayslake, it will instead be a bunch of retail spaces spread out like Fountain Square. :(

  • Wow. I had not realized. I guess malls are out and mega fountain square like areas are going to be the IN thing. Any idea when the Grayslake "mall" is supposed to start?

  • I had no idea of the Grayslake one not coming. I havent heard any talk about it in a long time so maybe not. And the economy is so terrible now I cant imagine growth now. Fountain Square at least is better than an empty lot but i still miss my Lakehurst.
