I thought I did. The whole "listen to this device" option has the latency so you need to find a different way to monitor the audio. It might exist already.
That helped while I hear the the audio.
Then I realized after recording the recording was still off but by about half of what it was.
You'd think 0.07sec is nothing but it is still too much for me.
The bottom line is stick with XP.
I'll use software with 7 but I won't record anything with it.
@TheStoicAgnostic I've been pulling my hair out trying to find a fix. I do video editing and often have to cut to music beats. With Windows 7 sometimes the sound and video are 5-6 frames off from each other, about .2 seconds (an eternity in sound/video). I may have found a fix, a bandaide if you will. I installed ASIO4ALL and tweaked with the settings a bit and dropped the sampling as low as it could go and it really has seemed to help. I still think it's off by about .05 second, but closer
I've had the same problem (but much worse) on my W7 laptop since it came out of the box. I thought I could pack my old computer away, but now I have to set it back up just to record. Glad I kept it.
@TheStoicAgnostic Yep. I didn't install any extra sound cards or drivers, so I can't uninstall or reinstall them to test the problem. I even did a complete factory reformat and it's still lagging. It's a Compaq Presario CQ61 with Windows 7 Home Premium for anyone wondering. If you're an audio person, I'd recommend skipping that model.
Actually did find a fix. I had to bypass it all and just install another program that runs my soundcard. The front panel doesn't work now, but I can at least get a live monitor without latency. If anyone is interested in how I did it, just ask me.
Great vid. I'm having the exact same problem. I use my laptop primarily for music and production and recording. As soon as I upgraded from xp to 7 I got this stupid latency issue. This is not acceptable Microsoft.
@swingman37 I know and they won't even admit it happens The problem is from when you use "listen to this device" when monitoring the input you have to find a different method and/or upgrade your sound driver if you have an older Dell and they stop at vista i have a driver for that problem most manufacturers are decent enough to update a driver
I got a dell studio laptop, its very old it has vista on it and i have latency problems with my recording. and playback, is there a program or somthing to help this?
if we keep making noise surely they'll make a change. i've been following this problem for months now.. it drives me BONKERS and like MS is just twiddling their thumbs watching the $ come in and gloating about 'listening to customers'
there is no fix. the only person from MS i've seen deal with it is some guy named Chris and he just keeps making us try different things that dont work.. in the end, why dont they fix it and put it in our windows updates? im so pissed about it
does anyone kno how to fix where the sound drags and the video or game your playing lags

My problem was the opposite way... I got issues with Xp since I update my laptop MB.
I try Windows 7 and now I can multitrack and midi without issues.

I hate that 7 has latency. Just keep XP on another partition. Mac is not the way to go. :)

it's ridiculous
so you bought one brand new with it already installed
and it still does this?

@WispierTetrahedrons
I heard from people with all kinds of manufacturers and models
windows 7 just sucks with this latency
I have a better driver so it doesn't do it when I hear
but it still does when i listen to a recording on playback
it's less but enough to be a pain
I have XP on the same hard drive still, no problems
microsoft could at least admit the problem exist

@beaustep19 I'm very, very interested. My laptop is a portable recording device. I like win7 but its latency makes it impossible to do the job....

@AnthonyWrightCortez
really
my laptop is about a year before vista came out so older shouldn't matter
the best thing is to check for driver updates
on Dell's site.
I know vista has that "listen to this device"
maybe it has latency on vista too
you need to monitor the sound another way if so

@aajii22
thanks
yeah, guitar would not work out well with this at all
the support jerks on the windows 7 forum won't even believe I have the problem in the first place
i think in time a lot more people will report it

people are catching on, hopefully microsoft is starting to smell the problem. i'm seeing hundreds of disgruntled ppl if not more.

just cant record on a mac, ms had it perfect. they decided to fix something that wasn't broke
skadallas 1 year ago
@skadallas
I've fixed the problem on mine by finding modified driver that works with a normal input monitor
but the "listen to this device" part of windows 7 still has latency
I have XP still on a separate partition
same computer, same hardware etc.
XP on every computer I've used never did this
you're right
they tried to improve something that worked
and broke it
They told me I was lying and used delay when I did this video
TheStoicAgnostic 1 year ago
@gesc1200 I can`t afford a Mac.
