Hi, i don't have a number pad on my laptop and I cant switch to the different views. Is there another way to see all of the views without the number pad shortcut?
"I’m having problems right off the bat here. I understand everything I’m seeing and how this should work, but when I extrude I get these green and pink lines running across my viewport and they’re guiding my extrusions off the ZY plane. Even though I am a newbie, I have worked with the mirror modifier, made several rough models and yet I’ve never seen these before and they’re messing with my modeling. Anyone know how to deactivate them?" any idea how to turn off this green and pink axis ? HELP
Thanks alot for covering the basics. ALot of beginner tutorials made by other users are not covering those basics. I'm definatly subscribing to you and watching your other tutorials.
Pro tutorial bro, clean likable speaking voice, very informative and to the point. I have though a noob question. On this tutorial look at the top of your interface screen top middle left by the word default in the box. There is a check mark that "deletes active screen" when you hit this a new screen opens. No matter what I do I cant restore the old screen. How do I restore a deleted screen? Or is this a button I just never want to hit? pls help. ty & thumbs up btw!
Awesome tutorials. You make things a lot easier. Hopefully some one could help me with this one though. For those different views do you have to have a number pad? Im on a laptop so it just makes the cube disappear when i press 7 or any other number than 1. Is there somewhere in the menu i can change this?
Good tutorial, but to stay on task and not get distracted, maybe putting up a bulleted topic script might help you so you don't list off random days months and units of time?
Thanks for the videos. I've been wanting to use blender for some time but couldn't stand the GUI. This is a step in the right direction. I still have yet to see a project management tool? I'm use to XSI and Maya.
Blender is such a amazing tool to use, i was hoping that you could do more stuff with animation and show people how to make a short animation with objects that anyone can make quickly!!! Thank you
This was very good. I wish I would have found it a week ago. Been a real hard time trying to figure things out with all the differnt versions and the differn't instructors.

I was thinking that the actual program should have a basic training mode where it hides alot of the features and just gives you some of the basics to start. It is very intimidating, and I have some programming knowlege.
When I open up my user preferences menu, the text is muddy and unreadable. Does anyone know what's wrong and how I fix it. Also, I seem to be missing some buttons from my tabs menu (the one with the Arrays, Materials, Modifiers, ETC) How do I retrieve these? Thanks to anyone that can help!
Really clear and helpful tutorial. Only question is when you are showing people how you go into user preferences to change mouse preferences... a whole beautiful window snaps out. I don't get that. ??? I actually have to pull the window apart and I can't see everything as easily. I am working on Mac computer and wonder if that haa anything to do with it since it's been a struggle getting started with Blender for a few of us macintosh users.

Wow Chad Thanks! THANKS! Your approach is easy to absorb. Seems you are here to teach!! Your info delivery resonates along with your sound advice and fun sidebar comments. Super helpful. Oh yeah, I'll let you know what I discover from more playing around -- so far I discovered what all have warned: Blender has a steep learning curve. And I will submit art to online gallery some day. They don't want total newbie stuff posted -- right?
I'm an advanced user of Maya. I've tried to get into Blender for production but I found it hard to get around and I didn't have time to mess with it.
The "turntable" tips in use preferences saved me from massive frustrations with the default trackball !!! I give up many time! I didn't know that option feature, it's great!
Now with your tips I start get around it and relax ...
@firechildc Hey im trying the Numberpad shortcuts and they aren't working all of a sudden the objects disappear and i try hitting 7,3 and 1 and the camera won't move
hi Firechild im new to blender i've worked with Maya 2009 and Zbrush before heard about blender thanks to my gf. I heard it has pretty much everything you for animation, effects, sculpting so i thought it was an awsome tool to master. Was wondering though this pogram can also be usefull for video game models? cause thats the area i'm working on. Write back when you can dude; in the mean time im gonna try out blender :)
so far seems very informative :). im going to try and tackling modeling for tf2 so hopefully this will help. especially since blender 2.49 doesn't work for me and a lot of the tutorials are for that version.
But I've got a question and it's probably not going to be mentioned during these totorial videos: How do I set the current view coordinates as a new camera? Can you tell me? (It would make setting a camera much, much easier!)
@nesukor excellent question...and something that I am planning to detail in tonight's tutorial! The short answer, though, is to enable "emulate 3 button mouse" in the user preferences. Then ALT Left click will emulate the middle mouse. Details in tonight's tutorial! Check my channel later this evening
Another great tutorial Chad! I hope you don`t mind but I made a screencast about been new to blender and in there I talk about sites, tutorials and tips for newbies to blender and where they can find stuff and I pointed out your site and I`m linking this tutorial to the post. Thats it thanks 4 sharing...
@niuarts I don't mind at all! In fact I am quite honored. Thanks for helping to spread the word! It's humbling to know that my little videos are making an impact! I'm glad you enjoy them. I hope your viewers enjoy them just as much! Episode two of back to the basics will up up either late tonight or early tomorrow.
my question is to put it on youtube? i do not have much of a bottom bar to put it into my movie maker to place on youtube, not sure how?

when I hit 7 for top view the block disappears. I figured it out. I was using the numbers
in the keyboard section and NOT the number pad itself. Once I used that everything
worked just fine.
