  • an excellent example of a 924

  • very nice condition

  • Sounds sweet for an early car. I have one of the last from the other end of production in 1985, before they dropped in the 2.5 litre unit. Mine sounds a bit more like a sewing machine though! Really must adjust those cam followers.

Gotta be said, Guards Red is the ONLY colour to have! :-D

Keep hold of it guy, the early cars are becoming scarce and prices are rising.

  • @TheDiddlysquat Your dead right! Seems as though much of the cost of parts jump up on the 2.5, my 1st was a 1982 Lux, both models are great fun. Have been looking at 944's but really need to spend a few quid more to get a later model with the fresher interior or its just like sitting in 924 in a earlier model. Other problem of course is the lawn mower and a 944 will come to blows in my garage and only one will fit! Where a 924 they snuggle up no probs, Still I could just block pave the garden!!

  • This actual car was owned by my best mates dad in the 80's, the reg 924 gou was a give away, and was the start of my obsession of 924's, and I'm now on my 3rd, now owning a mint 86 924s with a white and red GT3 paint job, though orig wheels, same as yours but with upgraded red calipers. those who say 924's aren't porsche fans, as if it wasn't for the 924, porsche wouldn't exist today! and a later 924 with the 2.5 porsche (944) engine is a blast to drive and puts a grin on my face every time!

  • I believe the 924 was "supposed" to have been a sportster for VW, but they copped out and went with the Sirocco instead, leaving Porsche with a car design that wasn't being made anymore...so they bought back the plans and did it themselves. The 924 brought the Porsche line back from the edge of bankruptcy and paved the way for the 911.

  • Thats your opinion and god gave us all free will so I respect that comment.

Porsche desidned the VW Beetle and then took that design and ended up with a squashed beetle, the first Porsche car. At least the 924 was his own design that looked nothing like a Beetle and more like a sports car and wasn't influenced by the Natzis.

  • this dude needs to buy some t cut

  • Hi!

I've got a same '78 924 like yours, even the rims are the same! This 4-bolt teledial ATS is very rare rare, so keep it!

    Respect! :)

  • Hi, yes these rims are rare. Saying that, I have a spare set just in case I dent the ones on the car.

  • beautiful 924 :)

  • mileage in these only go up to 100,000 and then start again, ive a 1985 lux model 924, 145,000 original miles with all old mot bought it off someone last year and he had owned it for 19 years, there cheap to maintain, it runs like a dream, the engines are good for 160-170,000 miles before rebuilding is needed if its maintained well.. only issues are crack in dashboard and electric boot only opens with the key.. not bad for our 24 year old car

  • Crazy interior! I'm looking at buying a 924S in the U.S. right now.

  • Nice ... we have a tractor and a BMW 520i but I wish any of them had a sound like this :P:D xD

  • We also have a Tractor a 1948 Grey Fergy TE20 which sounds a bit louder!

  • GREAT 924! The condition is amazing as mine is `84 but far from mint condition :( Not my fault, I'm probably the fifth owner... I wish you good luck and take care of your car and yourself, too :)

    KEEP PORSCHING!

  • 2-Litre Audi, overhead cam fuel injected.

  • Is it the porsche 924 with audi engine? or VW?

  • Thats a realy hard question to answer. If you want to know more have a look at the website howstuffworks on the Porsche 924 and that will answer a lot more than I can here.

  • Volkswagen

  • Clean motor on a nice car but... adjust your lifters that thing sounds like a tractor!

  • Thanks for the comment. I think the lifters (tappets in the UK) are a bit worn in their bores as they have been adjusted to the correct gaps and still rattle. For a 30 year old engine I can live with the noise. I will have to have a go at them when I change the valve seals sometime.

  • That's a one-of-a-kind 924. You did an excellent job keeping it clean and sharp. I can't find that many 924 models in the U.S. in mint condition.

  • I can see the they are Not S teledials now as they are only 4 stud..I have An S...

    Very Nice Car....

  • The wheels were registered with the car from new in 1978 in Germany. I can't find any like them as they are only 4 stud. Thanks for your comment on the car.
