  • Awesome...gonna order the same model, expect the 46' size instead. I am ordering online as I am getting a great deal. This video helps me with looks of it in a home environment. And that stand is the same as mine, only difference my is black counter instead of glass. That's for the video...this helped me decide over a couple others!

  • does the Tv give off much heat?

  • It does give off heat like plasmas do, but it doesn't really bother me.

  • I have this Panasonic HDTV and it has a Fantastic picture. I also play my Xbox 360 games on it. A Plasma display is a great display to game on. The picture is amazing. Once you go Plasma, you'll never want to go back to a LCD display.

  • Plasma is defintly better for playing games on. much Better picture than LCD

  • somebody please guide me i dont know which tv to buy im stuck between panasonic

TH-46PZ82B or SONY V4000 im not sure which to buy

  • So how are the Wii Vids' coming along? Anyways, I actually checked out the PN50A550 yesterday as well as the 85U....All i can say is the Sammy had better color, while the Panny had the slight edge on blacks. And i've been hearing about the green ghosting that happens while playing videogames on the 85U, don't know if that's a problem for some of them or all.But ya, the 800U is the king of plasmas right now(besides pioneer) but they're pretty expensive.

  • I posted a video of Halo 3 in our video channel. Quality really sucks so it probably wont help much.

  • Hi ,I'm interested in buying this tv but i'm very concerned about glare and reflection issues as my living room is big and has a lot of double windows.Could you please let me know how the tv performs in bright light environment.

    Thanks

  • LCDs are generally better with regard to glare and bright rooms. However, when it gets dark, the flaws of LCDs become very apparent with relatively poor black levels and potentially uneven backlighting. I don't have great issues with reflections as they have improved the antireflective surfaces over the years as well as the brightness of plasmas. Go to a store and look at them from angles. There are lots of bright lights in there which could give you some idea of reflections.

  • Thank you!

  • @pezata Yrh great doesnt say in the manual that they devolop vertical lines and only manufactures can mend them.. might as well buy a new one..

  • I'm also set on getting the Samsung PN50A450, but for some odd reason the resolution is 1024x768 on Samsungs website...Yet on every other website it's listed as 1365x768. I mean it has to be the higher res, i mean what 50" plasma has a res of 1024x768? because if that's the case i'm not buying.

Anyways, you know what would be awesome, if you posted up a video trying ouy the 360 and Wii on your Plasma.

  • I checked it out... don't worry its 1365x768. I still recommend a 1080p, but it's ultimately your decision. My brother owns the Panasonic TH-50PZ700u. He has a Wii and 360 and can post some vids of some games on his set. Will be a day or 2 before he can get them posted though.

  • Awesome, sounds good ;)

As for 1080p, i'm sort of considering it..I mean what turns me off about 1365x768 is that it's a fixed resolution, but what turns me off about 1080p(besides the higher price tag) is that people have been saying the 360/PS3 take a hit framerate wise when displayed at 1080p due to the limmited power of their graphic cards(whatever) And i'm a frame rate whore, so if really does take a hit, than it's a no for me.

  • where are you getting the info about the framerate issues on the 1080p sets?? I have played lots of FPS on both LCD 1080p and Plasma 1080p sets. I have never really noticed a framerate problem with either and I can usually spot stuff like that. We'll try to have those vids up by tomm.

  • I've heard a few people on random message boards saying that the 360 can only output 1080p at up to 30(instead of 60) frames per second, overall giving certain games an inferior frame rate...But it does sound a bit bogus I guess. But some other people are saying that it's not true and that it looks better and plays perfectly at 1080p since it's a supported resolution and not fixed.

  • Also, I've been hearing how the Samsung PN50A450 has great color, but the blacks could be better, and the displays seems to have IR problems and so on. So now i'm actually really considering getting the TH-42PZ85U

  • From the research that I have done, the frame rate issue seems to be more game-related than tv-related. Almost all games are rendered at lower resolutions still (ex. 1280x1080 or 1280x720) so a lot of scaling is being done by the 360/ps3 or you TV. Choosing to be a 1080p Set is future-proofing. I dont want to have a set that cannnot handle things down the road. I think you would be making a wise choice going with the Panny, not just for the 1080p but because they make very high quality plasmas.

  • I plan on keeping this display for maybe around 2-3 years, then i want to upgrade. I actually wanted to get a 720p display, and then upgrade to 1080p display once the Next gen systems hit in around 3 years. The funny this, if these 720p displays werent fixed and were native 1280x720, i wouldn't think of going 1080p, But that's not the case.

  • and i also just found out the 42PZ85U is $1,799 compared to the $1499 sammy plasma...and then there's the PZ8OU which appears to have a lower contrast ratio and a not so nice looking design compared to the PZ85U, but it's 1,499...damn. I think I'm really just going to save a bit and go for the PZ85U, and it's funny, i planned on spending a little over a grand in the beginning, and it looks like now I'll be spending $2000

  • Oh and I know 1080p is a waste at 42" but because it has that native resolution, i guess that's why i'm going for it instead of the Sammy. Damn is it difficult buying an HDTV these days

  • Ok, i've stumbled across some other issues.

The obvious high points of a Plasma

    +Superior Color

    +CRT-like Response time

    +Better Blacks

Now I can get over Screen Glare, as I'm used to it with My CRT, but i've been hearing about picture dithering, video noise and 360/PS3 games not looking as crisp or clear compared to an LCD. Is this true?

  • im gettin this in 42 inches or may be the sony 40w4000 which one's better?

  • If you are going 50 inches, be sure to go 1080p. You might look at the Panasonic TH-50PZ80U to save a few dollars if you don't need a PC input or can use HDMI from your PC.

  • Awesome, I thaught so. Well, i've narrowed it down to 2 models, well 3 actually....But since the PN42A450 Plasma has a lower Res 0f 1024x768 I'd be be losing 256 Pixels, ugh. But as for the other 2 >

    ~Samsung PN50A450 50" 720p Plasma

    ~Panasonic TH-42PZ85U 42" 1080p Plasma

the 50" sammy has the 1366x768, although i didn't plan on going that large, but I can make the space.

  • *Actually ya, 9 feet seems about right

  • ...and the one advantage it 'does' have is the higher res(1366x768p)...But i really don't want to settle for inferior colors, blacks and a 6ms response time...So what do you think is the best option?...

  • You are correct that the horizontal resolution is low. It will actually just have to rescale the image and throw away some information. It won't stretch it however. At 42 inches and a large enough distance, you probably won't be able to tell the difference. In my opinion though, I'd try to go 1080p if you can afford it as it's the only resolution that can take all HD resolutions without throwing anything information away.

  • Well, I'll be sitting around 8-9 feet away. And the problem I have with 1080p, is that the 360 and PS3 games are native 720p and Wii games are 480p....Now i'm guessing they'd look worse on a 1080p display due to upscaling....I know the 360 and PS3 'support' 1080p...but the games arent, they're 720p, so wouldn't they look even worse on a 1080p set rather than a 720p set?

  • ....And as for the Wii, it only supports 480p, and i'm guessing it would look really bad on a 1080p set...And because of the upscaling wouldn't there be lag as well?...

  • I wouldn't worry about the 1080p. I have a Wii and there are no problems at 50 inches. There is no lag due to upscaling and it looks as good as a Wii can look at 480p. I would rather have 1080p so I can get all the resolution available from all sources.

  • I see what you're saying, And your display must have an excellent scaler then. Anyways, I'm probably going to get the Model you have, but at 42" Also, i'm just so used to my Sony 32" Wega Trinitron CRT SDTV, hopefully this plasma can match it PQ wise...Anyways, what's the response time for your display? or any new typical plasma for that matter, I know CRTs are the greatest when it comes to this, they're 0ms right?

  • I really don't think you'll be disappointed. Response time is just not really an issue. You can kinda think of a plasma as a big thick CRT. A plasma display is the closest thing to a CRT in the world of currently available flat panel technologies.

  • Also, and i really don't want to go 50" to get that higher res...Anyways, so if I do pick up the 42"...Will the detail loss from the lower res be that bad?...And somebody was saying 1024x768p isn't 16/9...it's 4/3, so therefor it has to stretch the image. I'm not exactly sure...But ya, the other model i'm looking at is the Samsung LN40A450 720p LCD...

  • As it stands(for now) Plasma is superior. If you wan't better and more life-like colors, better blacks and faster response time, then go with Plasma....I myself am actually thinking about pickin up the Samsung PN42A450....I wan't it for 360,PS3,Wii,Blu ray and Dvds'....But the only problem is, is that i'm thrown off by its '1024x768p' Resolution, which is less than true 720p(1280x720p) and lower than 1366x768p(which 720p LCDs have)

  • plasma or lcd they all look same when ur play it in dark room/no light.

  • Actually that is one of the situations where the difference between plasma and LCD will become apparent. LCDs at this point can't typically match the black levels of a good plasma display. In addition, there can be a lot of uneven backlight with an LCD. These will become more noticeable in a dark room.

  • mm....ooo..

    now i understand.

    thx for that friend.

plasma have more black level right?.

and what about screen burn in?

    should i worry about that?

  • In general, plasmas are known to have better black levels. Burn-in is not really the issue that it used to be. You should avoid leaving the TV set to a very bright mode or leaving static images on the screen for the first 100 hours or so as it is more sensitive during that period. You could see some image retention from time to time where there is a faint image of something that was on the screen. This will go away quickly after putting something different on the screen for a few minutes.

  • OOOoooOOO....

that info really help me a lot

    about plasma tv.

    NOW I REALLY undderstand...

    i tought it become permenantly.

  • this is the point. before know this i prefered the lcds, but now.....are you sure the blacks are still better on pz??? how about for example a samsung lcd series 6 or a sony or philips lcd, in a dark room.....beacause in a shop it is difficult to understand the real black level of a tv...

i am indecided between pz or series 6, then lcd has motion blur but pz has phosfors trails, and there is even the burn in problems

can someone clear my ideas????? thanks

  • Neither technology is perfect. Based on my research at this point, I'd go with plasma....especially with the GREAT prices on plasmas. Only if you plan to use the TV as a computer monitor a LOT or have a VERY bright room is an LCD perhaps a better choice.

  • LED backlit LCDs have really good black levels as well. Most LCDs use a high-powered fluorescent lamp that is always on during operation. But LED backlit displays can produce better black levels because they can actually shut off individual LED bulbs which means excellent black levels. I personally prefer LCD because I'm a gamer so I don't want the game HUD permanently burnt into the screen, and LCDs are much better for moderate to brightly-lit rooms because of their anti-glare screens.

  • 4,593 views and 2 comments.this video deserve more comment cause this vid is cool.i wish i had a tv like that!
