  • I'm American and a huge fan of Thoroughbred racing and have owned a few 5000 claimers, but I've recently discovered the Akhal-Tekes and my appreciation is growing substantially. Beautiful horses.

  • hey i hear racecar rhapsody was sold to russians to run in the russian derby on aug 16 do you think you can upload that race the daily racing form for aug 4 said he would run in that race but then again things can change. but if you do find the race let me know thanks.

  • please do you have any videos of russian steeplechases?

  • so is this in russia and why no sound

  • the video is on the MAAK site in its entirety and with sound

  • Dear Pink 6666, i know, for sure, they ARE slower, also at the longer distances, as I exercized both breeds ))). Akhal-tekes cover 2400 m (1.5 mile)in 2.50-6 (best result, h.Beduin), while Thoroughbreds can easily do it in 2.23-2.25 (world record 2.22.1 by Alkaased).

I suppose your Akhal-Teke mare is really unique, and you have to race ger against Thoroughbreds, then. ;-))

  • but over real distances, say 6,000 m to 100 miles... that is what these guys are made for.

  • Супер***

  • whooaaa! I never knew Akhal-Tekes could race!! cool!

  • well, about the irons - akhal-tekes have a bit different conformation, the back is narrow and long, and the neck is sheer and thin. That`s why the irons are lower than you are used to see on the Thoroughbreds. And the jockeys are all professionals. It is a 9 furlong race.)) Akhal-Tekes are definitely slower than Thoroughbreds, but at many distances better than arabians.

  • what makes you say akhal tekes are slower? i cheked it out and on it says the fastet TB came up to 40mph(64.373 759 999 96 kmph) and my akhal teke mare comes up to 60KMPH(37.282 271 534 28 mph) so no theyre not slower.

  • Thanks...now unfortunately I need to convert to English and furloughs. I'm sorry if by saying these guys looked "big" I insinuated they weren't professionals...that wasn't intended. It just looked like the irons hung lower than what I remember Enlish and American racing to be. If anything, they look like they are positioned for steeplechase length, that's all.

Has any Thoroughbred gone up against one of these Akhal-Tekes?

  • the thoroughbreds are better at the shorter distances and the Akhal-Tekes excel at the longer races.

  • This info is from the MAAK site!

  • What was the distance for this race? and the time? By the way...those are some BIG jockeys!

  • The President's cup is 1800m

I inquired about the jockeys and was told that they are professionals.
