Have you considered a paper displacer filled with cotton wool? You could make the templates printable which would be easier ? Also you could just make the flywheel out of wire like in my "Simple coke can engine" . Just thinking of ways you could make it even easier.
@specallez Just a question, what is the function of the cotton wool/steel wool in the displacer? will it have a regenerative effect as compared to a foam displacer?
@TinyDav In this case it would just be to take up the dead space, as it probably wouldn't be easy/possible to get a paper displacer airtight (and it would probably implode anyway)
@specallez The displacer is floral foam. The connecting rod is .015 music wire (about the same as a guitar's B string). It flexes enough to connect directly to the crank withuot a connecting rod in between.
@alabala327 I have seen video of pop can engines made with fishing line, but I have not tried to make one that way. There are many things that can prevent your engine from running. The key things to check are always friction, timing, leaks, and temperature differential. There is a trouble shooting guide available at the StirlingBuilder website.

@specallez The floral foam is just too quick and easy. I may experiment with stacks of cardboard. But I really like the foam.

Cool :) What's the displacer made from ? Is that a wire connecting the displacer? Looks nice and easy.
