I have a basenji mix who loves wrestling with the pit bulls at the dog park - they're the only dogs there who don't mind her full-of-vinegar attitude! She likes to play rough, but it's just play, and the other dogs there usually can't handle it. Her ruff is always up, too - makes people nervous, but primitive breeds have remaining characteristics like that. The "contest" here is pretty entertaining :)

This male basenji is way overfed. Must be eating biscuits and gravy for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Way to abuse your dog with food, dude. Good thing there was a fence there. Your porker of a basenji would have been a pitbull snack, otherwise.
It's pretty obvious these dogs are not interested in killing each other. If that's what you think then you have never seen a dog show aggression through a fence. If the pit had had any interest in hurting the basenji he either would have ripped at him through the fence (my friend's Lab got his nose hurt pretty good this way one time) or tried to get over or under the fence... I don't see him doing either.
Basenjis are the martial artists of the dog world. They are ninja like. LOL What would likely happen if they were to get together is the basenji (well, an in-shape basenji....yours looks a little pudgy...no offense! ) would run circles around it trying not to get caught and tire the pit out. My basenji does that with all the aggressive dogs at the dog park. Once the dog is tired out my basenji just goes off and plays with other dogs. LOL But, Alex has been caught a few times.
@rufflesworld Oh he's getting older than. Mine is about 6 years old I believe. He's in the 23-25lb range. Yeah, as long as he's comfortable no worries! He looks very healthy and very nice! I'll never own any other breed of dog. Alex has definitely spoiled me and I'll be posting some video of him and Calvin "play fighting" soon, I hope.
thanks. i had time to script it ! ha ha . this was their third meeting. first one was a classic too, but i had no camera. i came back prepared. he looks like he could'a kicked that brick at me too. i could feel the sting of the dirt! too bad the camera didn't get "pinged". that woulda been great.
The scratching/pissing is very dominant behavior, as is the piloerection (hackles), tails over the back (especially in the APBT) and the stiff bodies with heads high. These dogs would most likely have it out, none of that is play behavior. They seem satisfied with the fence between them anyway. (I only commented as this vid was sent to me.)
thanks, i appreciate your input. no, i would never let them together, and i told others that in pm's.... if anything, the pit looked like he would put up with a very docile dog. (plus he lives with a chihuahua)... ha ha . my basenji, on the other hand, is a very sweet little dude, but he has that classic male problem of sometimes thinking they are waay tougher than they actually are. he sleeps in king bed all day, and is scared of loud noises. other than that... he is the king of the world!!!
I think they wanna play Alf....... Do they live close to your house? Maybe you can arrange a play date? I'm sure Ruffles will play nice.....huh? LOL Great video!!
YAY! thanks! great video, the end is funny, cause he is really kickin some dirt in your face :) without the little chiwahwah there i bet those two good lookin dogs could be buddies, i saw both tails waggin! :)
hahaha..those are some dirt kicking fools..i loved it..that was cool..Diesel kicks dirt after a nice big poop ;) i think he is so proud of himself..haha
Oh that is so sweet. They want to play. Tonka likes to kick dirt too especially when another dog comes around. I guess that is their way of showing off, LOL. :)
you are probably correct. i don't know all the specifics. when he's kickin' dirt in mah face, i can't ask him! (i sorta just used the generic "pit").. all i knew, was he coulda kicked ruffies ass.
thanks heather! yes it seems to be the thing to do. (the dirt kickin) yep, i have a bunch of vids just waitin'.... bwa ha ha a... about 10. i borrowed a flip camera. i gave it back before i got in trouble with many more drunken "announcements". ha ha ha

@2BROVIDEOS
no worries, but please remember.... it is the PERSON that makes the breed do bad things.
there are some very sweet pitties, but responsible, loving, training PEOPLE are behind them.
evil people teach dogs evil things.
rufflesworld 8 months ago
@rufflesworld Ill think about that I no longer hold a grudge on all pit bulls, just the one

my basenji would have been growling and chewing thru the fence just to get at the pitbull lmao.
