  • great video thanks

  • It's slick, and impressive -- except for the trunk seal. TIRED of everyone calling something just mildly impressive "AMAZING". Someone fire the advertising agency that came up with this unoriginal slogan.

  • Nice car! No trunk. Have money - no need to carry anything. Look like a million bucks at the stoplight when it starts raining or something. Go topless and then back with a top a few times at 100 mph or something. Geez!

  • one word,"FUCK"!!!!!!!!!!

  • omg thats what the seal always looks like in the back?? fucking gross, tighten it up.

  • Does this protect me if I am in an accident? Rolling over?

  • Anyone inside the boot would get crushed! I want a car I can use for my undercover sex slave trade

  • "oh hey what's in your trunk?"

    "the rest of my car"

  • get rear ended and then end up paying 12x as much as you would without all those moving parts.

  • Looks like some very tight tolerances and close clearances. Likely trouble if activated while parked on uneven surface or if something interferes with the mechanism.

  • No tall rear seat passangers please. that thing would axe your pip.

  • wooow!!! how i wish lamborghini will have that!!!!

  • holy shit! its a transformer!

  • in eng schools, they dont teach how to make a system like this.

  • if it rains, by the time the thing is deployed, your car is flooded. well.. at least it's innovative and that's what matters

  • that's so impractical. skillful and ingenius but impractical. If that were to be broken, a mere mechanic would not be able to fix it. It would cost a butt load to fix.

  • @P01029 yeah but mechanics would be seminared about that when the time comes... just wait for it.

  • ((Wow, interesting----I can a better mechanical future God willingly.))

  • Impressive, but way too cumplex.

    :D

  • too many parts to eventually fail...it's pretty solid though!

  • transformers anyone?

  • excellent but not needed more.

  • because that totally hasn't happened before

  • I think it's excessive, and I personally don't even like convertibles.

  • Eh, not worth losing the trunk space IMO. It's akin to stuffing a truck bed with speakers. All you do is sacrifice cargo space to be a douche.

  • Wow, looking at all the comments I wonder... don't you have convertibles in America? In Europe they're pretty commonplace. This is what we call a hard-top convertible - the best of both worlds, it's convertible and yet as rigid and resistant to tearing and rain as a normal roof is...

  • so awesome

  • nice. now where do i put my grocery?

  • Do some research, Ford America did this in the 50s and sold thousands of them. Some are still going even with you roads.

  • Cool .. I hope this mechanism is reliable enough to continue working for long time before get spoiled.

  • That wouldn't last a year in Canada... lol those cracks / seam lines are hideous, and a haven for dirt and water/salt accumulation. Also all of those little linkages would most likely get bent all to hell the first time someone tries putting the roof up while driving (we all know sum1 is going to do it). plus all of those swivel points.... uh... nightmare... the linkages have some impressive traits, but the overall design isn't really "amazing" at all. Just my $0.02 as a technologist.

  • Takes a minute to open and close the roof... blimey <_<

  • making things simpler would be better..

  • Nice idea, though I'd rather have the boot space thanks.

  • Engineers should watch this and realize:

If the same thing can be done, lighter, faster, or less complicated, then you are moving in the right direction.

    Looking cool is another matter.

  • .... Transformers.. Robots in disguise.

  • You cant even put stuff in the trunk now. Whats wrong with soft tops?

  • The Fact that dicks like to come and slice ur tops up while you're at work.

    That's what's wrong with Soft-Tops.

  • Shooped I can tell by the pixels having seen a few shops in my time.

  • i dont think so... this could easily be real, its not lie it would even be impossible the tech exists. Hard top convertables have existed for ages and most are very similar to this one

  • Noob, Hard-TOp convertibles are real.

  • Is this on a real production car, or a 1-off for the show? I shudder to think of all the parts and motors to make it do all that...

  • Yes of course its real. Almost every european car manufacturer has a car model with such roof.

  • As an engineer all I'm thinking is "Surely that could've happened faster, or lighter."

  • And I'm thinking, "Surely that's going to break quickly and often and be costly to repair."

  • amazing video n amazing engineeringggggg

  • its really amazing

  • wow an amazing engineering masterpiece!

  • it only looks cool in the showroom. Water, leaves, and junk will get in there. Not to mention there is no actual trunk space, as it's filled up by the hydraulic roof.

  • You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. We have one of these. There is trunk space as the roof only fills a section of it and no junk gets stuck in it.

  • I agree to a point laxmaster2001, pretty cool, but not so amazing when up against the LHC. I will one up ya though , try the International Space Station. Its been up there occupied every day for about 9 years in space. The engineering marvel that it is, LHC can't touch the ISS.

  • too..many..moving...parts.

  • @Broflovski100 indeed

  • I am soo gonna get one of those

  • Soon megatron.... soon

  • yes...soon

  • that is not amazing engineering, not even close, LHC is amazing physics

  • if by amazing you mean - 'be able to cut the head of anyone in the back seat, with the flick of a button...'

  • It's Opel Astra Twin Top. I see there is a lack of ANY water insulation when the top is inside the trunk... Very, very poor decision.

  • well to point out the obvious - why would you need a water-insulation when the car is in a coupe mode?

  • Lack of water insulation also means you can expect lots of dust inside the trunk and the hydraulic mechanism of the top.

  • WOW, I'm sure it would break in the first 6 months.

  • is that a mercedes ??looks like it from the lights :S

  • that is sexy

  • whowho!!!!

  • That's pretty impressive...

  • wats so exiting about it? this has been round for fuckin years. is you want to see real enginering look at real decent cars!

  • OH MY GOD!!! WHAT NEXT....MAYBE THEY'LL INVENT PANTS I CAN SHIT IN TOO!!! lmao chill out dude I just got out of the Marine corps and this is kid stuff compared to what we design.

  • this may be kid video for you since you are in marine corps. but thuis is new to us..............thanks for your comments

  • can u use the back for storage?

  • What do you like in this car???I do not see anything special....chill mate!!!if u want go buy it OK...it is not so expensive!!
