I love this track! Listening to Leaders of Men now. Who has the Heart and Soul CD box set? mine arrived today, it is superb, greatest, coolest band EVER!!!!
@gasiczsnk Tell me man. I am brazilian and I want visit Poland. How about the violence, crimes, transport, language I want to konw if I can use enlglish in hotels, travelling in the country things like that.
@gutenberg80 Violence and crime is not bigger than in France or Germany. Polish language is difficult even for me ;). In big cities Poles speeks English better than Italians or Spaniards, but in the coutry you may have some problems with comunication. Generaly, Poles are rather friendly, and trying their best to be helpful for the strangers. The prices are much lover than in Germany, the mass transport standards are rather low. But in the end it's beautiful country. My coutry ;)
Of course here in Poland you could have problems with english communications with elder people... but here are a lot of young helpfull youngsters ho speaks english or another languages - probably not portugese - rather german, czech, french and spain.
In hotels are mostly young employes that are keen on english or (!) google an other translators! if you are not Polish socjologist ask me about Poland on dzieli@wp.pl - I would replay.
@dzieli222 Thak you man for your help. I think poland is the most fascinating country in europe. For your strengh, beautifull places, culture etc...I have here in Brazil some friends who are from poland. And I really admire the way the talk about their country, nature, people, customs...indeed must have something special..and I lives now in japan and I met many polishs here, so lovely people and friendly...Thanks by your help any question else I will get in touch in your mail...see you
JD were always energetic live, just check out any footage or the bootleg audience recordings. It was Hannett's rubbish moody production that made the band sound lifeless on record
'back in the day' when i would hear this in tony hawk, and long before i knew joy division to be the sophisticated artists they are and instead imagined them just to another bunch of contemptful, spitting punks, i merely thought ian was reading off random numbers, as if to say 'i'm too punk to count off in the correct numerical order'. of course now i get the hess references, but at that time had no idea the opening went any deeper than 'yeah, we don't use SOCIETY'S numbers'
@00bilz that could be it, but is that most of the time i listen to it live and raw in their bootlegs and once in a while in "substance" thats why, greetings my friend from baja california.
the punk nazi thing was always a joke, made by the children of people who beat the nazis and would beat them again, are you listening "religious" ultra- conservative america?
The flirtation with Nazi imagery by British punk and post-punk bands of this era always kinda made me uncomfortable. I've always understood it as an aesthetic way to reject the world of their parents' (who actually fought WWII) generation, done more for shock than actual Nazi sympathy, but Joy Division were great enough that they didn't need to do stuff like that to get attention. All the cryptic Rudolf Hess references just continue to confuse people.
I knew the Swing Kids version for a long time and I just now found out it was a Joy Division song. Weird, I knew Joy Division had a song called Warsaw but I figured it was a different song.
"In Joy Division's song "Warsaw", lyrics include reference to Hess' prison number, 31G-350125, and many believe the song to be about Hess. To add to this, Bernard Sumner once shouted "you all forgot Rudolf Hess" from the stage at one of their gigs. "
