I think the half decade between this taping and the one with Suzanne is a huge factor. It is obvious that Donn is not in the best shape here - perhaps due to injury. I also prefer him with Suzanne though - both commanding dancers.
Thank you so much for this lovely fragment! She is incomparably great in this, as in everything. Her lightness and emotional intensity with his long, leonine movement -what a combination! And Bejart's most beautiful work, I think.
For some reason, Donn's extensions are nowhere as good as they were in the Farrell version. While she is in the back bend, he leans on here in arabesque - he can barely lift his leg. Looks like he might have had a back injury in this video.
BTW - I love how swift Farrell moved from the backbend to an almost 180 arabesque penche - its amazing to do a comparison of different schools of dance in the same work.

I think that's because earlier on he has to haul her (Maximova) around like a dead weight. She gives him no help.
