  • he mans you can add fish i anywhere from 4-24 hours if you use starter bacteria for the wet dry filter. and also if there is no fish with the good bacteria has no food. they feed off of ammonia and other waste. so when using this it is very important to add starter fish within 4- 24 hours or the bacteria will die and loose affect.

  • hay i got a joke exertvillage

  • @xman21196 I second that

  • ExpertVillage you guys are only experts at being dumb fucks

  • mothafuckin prick!!!!! get ur stupid uneducated ass off here u motherless fuckin twat!!!! ohh my life are u a fockin numbnut? do u have a brain???

  • this guy is an idiot he doesent know what hes talking about

  • OK what i don't GET is that HE invested all the money on the tank and "Sophisticated" filtration system THEN he puts in FAKE Corals and FAKE PLASTIC PLANTS in it lol thats so funny!

  • man...that blew me away. this has got to be a joke.

  • you guys misheard him.

  • i don't know anything about this but based on the dislikes, i don;t think i can trust this guy

  • this guy just sounds and seems like a complete douche.

  • you talking like people dont know what they are doing. i have a 3000gl reef tank and i set it up i didnt pay no one to help me and there is noting wrong with it. people you dont alwas got to pay people to do thangs for you.

  • @subtankcar1 amen...not just with fish tanks either...

  • He said he has pieces of reef from the ocean that is entirly illegal. Also their is no helpful information on how to basically set-up a tank.

  • Is this a joke or something? Its more like your trying to show off rather than actually teach us something that'll come in handy...I bet you cant even figure out how the nitrate cycle works. cmon you look like your in your 40s yet you have the stupidity of a 3 year old.

  • What the hell? EXPERT village?!?!??! I would call it idiot village

  • WOW...... Terrible advice all around

  • FAIL! XD

  • uhhhhhh...NO. Fresh and marine are totally different. not the same. professional? really? who the hell uses bio balls anymore? Plus if you're using live rock, you don't need "starter" fish to cycle the water, dumb ass. Also, a true hobbyist will probably set up alot better than you and your staff, you dick. we actually care for our systems, and not the money you're getting paid. FAKE CORAL? COME ON MAN!

  • @TiSilver330Ci As for the "Fresh and marine fish are the same" he was talking about putting starter fish in the tank - that's all.

  • if this guy sells fish online, let us know so we can be sure and NOT buy from him. that was 2min and 23sec wasted off my life.

  • dude i love the angle fish

  • "Starter Fish" You donk you don't start the bio process with "Starter Fish" to cycle the system. Live rock and a live sand bed will do the same thing. Someone call peta on this company. Experts my ass....

  • this is complete bullshit, you should shove your shit tank up your arse

  • you basically memorize the manual and then vomit it at us, congratulations.

  • Yea hold on a second, let me just buy a 180 gallon tank for my OFFICE...ARE YOU DUMB? And if your profession is explaining how to set up fish tanks then its about time to open a book and go to college. GET A REAL JOB!!

  • lol this guy has a serious personality disorder. look at him puff up like a peacock as he dresses up simple concepts with excessive diction, and when he says that lovely "better left to professionals" line

  • Wat a dik! man some of these pet shop guys shouldn't be allowed to procreate. get the hell outta my gene-pool. wen i was first gettin into fish-keeping, i asked one of these about the mechanics of an expensive filter. he condescended to explain about the filters rotating sprinkling system, and how " for me that would probably mean a drip plate "

being a journeyman machinist, the only thing in their stinking shop i can't make would be the chips in the fukin cash register. Jackass.

  • Wow guy! Professional? It's not necessary to use fish to cycle a tank for the past 10 years or so. What a loser!

  • fuckin fag!! obviously you guys dont know shit! you have fake fucking coral??? LOL most hobbiests and reef tank owners alone know how to keep a tank and set up a tank with REAL coral and fish

  • moron setup means.

    adding saltwater

    adding live rock

    wait 1 month or whatever

    treat the water

    test it

if its good put crabs and inverts

and than put fish and corals

    that was easy!

  • if its best for us to leave it to professionals then wtf is the point of this video?

  • Lol professional ... what a joke

  • nice overall set up, however , the use of synthetic corals and the period in which to probably sustain a balanced eco- system and to add fish, is abit.. . off track?

  • WAIT, at the end of the video, did he say wait for 4 hours then add your fish, WFT your supposed to let your system cycle for a month or two. This guy doesnt not know what hes saying. If anyone really wants to learn about saltwater fish tanks or even reefs, go check out newyorksteelo or mrsaltwaterfish. They know what they are talking about.

  • @70gallonfishtank Pretty sure he said it will take 4 hours to do.. Then after 4-8 hours add a STARTER fish.. Witch would be mollys or damsels.

  • @ecck2 But if u think about it. The ammonia, nitrites, or nitrates wont go to zero in a few hours. Adding fish( even if they are hardy) like that would really be torturing the poor thing. Just add some live rock, live sand, or a dead piece of shrimp in the tank so start the cycling. Using that method will also be the same as adding fish. And something else that bugs me is that he said u have to be an expert to have a reef or marine aquarium. Im only 13 and i have a reef set up.

  • Forgot to mention. NEVER ADD DAMSELS IN AS STARTER FISH. They get really aggressive and will attack any new fish thats add in the tank once it settles in and establishes a territory.Thats called the damsel trap......cuz ur trapped with only the damsels that kill ur new fish or attack them. But i know that some ppl out there have different methods to do things like this, but im only saying wat i know from knowledge from other youtubers. Not to start sounding like a smart ass.

  • @70gallonfishtank Mine damsel didnt. But i only had one. and 2 mollys. And then i got a clown fish.

  • @ecck2 If u add them at the same time or with a time period when the fish havent established their own territory, then they wont be aggressive with the fish that are in the tank, but will show aggression to new fish once they have a territory of their own like i said.

  • @70gallonfishtank then you move the rocks etc around so new territories have to be established by all fish

  • @lizbetjoy That... Was... Dumb...

  • @Yakuzagang5 Sorry, what was dumb?

  • @70gallonfishtank He said 4 to 6 to 8 weeks...

  • Plastic corals??? Really??? I've heard (and read) SO many negative things about this "Expert Village" bullshit. Is this guy for real??

  • Please do yourself if you are even thinking about saltwater tank do not listen to this guy!

  • this is just one of the ways to do it canister filters would be ok and easier but nitrate levels will rise since it gets trapped in the canisters

  • The wet/dry filter (bio filter) is useless for your tank if you are using live rock, as the rock acts as the bio filter. Secondly, starter fish? That's not cool - making fish suffer just to get your tank to cycle quicker is terrible.

Plus, if you've gone the whole nine miles, no point in putting synthetics in there, might as well go for the real deal.

  • I hate it when guys are on youtube trying to educate on fishtanks...

  • They should change the name to retardvillage.

  • starter fish ?? seriously ?? dude it's 2011 read a book or something !

  • watch?v=Vh8G-oTdwPY

  • i don't know how much this tank costs in amerika, but in greece it would surely cost over 3.000 euros

  • what a douche bag.

  • nice so you support the destruction of natual reefs so you can have a shity tank in you home , i guess all your fish were stolen from a reef too

  • My ex-girlfriend used to skim my protein.

  • VISIT OUR SITE AND STORE WE HAVE EVERYTHING FOR YOUR AQUARIUM NEEDS

    bettablue.yolasite.com

  • why do you have bubbles in your tank that causes slime algea

  • YOUR SUB - TITLE SUCKS, YOUR TANK SUCKS AND "YOU" SUCK.

STOP TRYING TO BE COOL, YOU DOUCHE...

  • He sud be an expert with goldfish. put yr starter gold fish in ya pond ya human toilet

  • Expert village is a joke.

  • fuck tard

  • 80 likes & 160 dislikes? all i can say is LMAO !!!!

  • Starter fish my ass. You want to start a nitrogen cycle in a 180 salt go buy some uncultered live rock.

  • WTF are 'starter' fish. A true expert knows that you do not need to add fish to cycle a fish tank. What a douche.

  • @p19durham Actually douche. You can put starter fish in to help the cycle go a bit more. You can you black mollys or blue damsels or watever. So nice fail.

  • @p19durham Actually he's not - everywhere I read about setting up a tank they go on about starter fish. It's what I do and swear by. If you don't, that's your business but he is not wrong.

  • @p19durham it's expert village, what did you expect? i like to put in cheap fish to test the waters.

  • Wow, did this "expert" really just say, "Freshwater and saltwater, it's all the same" and that you "need to put in a starter fish to start the cycle?" Man. This guy has no idea what he's talking about.

  • Doesn't sound good telling people they are not good enough to build their tanks properly. I have been very successful in building my own 120 gallon tank & I did not need a professional no hold my hand!!!

  • This dude should drop his balls in that tank so that trigger fish can rip them off...

  • This guy is not only a dick I bet he has some on his breath too!

  • @bedevil1 too funny.....

  • Someone tell me this was a joke! Wow!

  • Expert Village needs to get people who aren't idiots to make videos for them. Why not go to someone who has an awesome tank? Not some d-bag with a tank with some plastic grossness. It really should be left to the professionals? And what makes them professional? If they're going to suggest adding "starter fish," they're not professionals.

  • Fuck this twat, halt the fun in this hobby is researching and setting up your own system, not paying some dumbass kid to come into your house and rape the hell out of your wallet just so you can look at suffering fish and plastic plants....vote up if you agree FELLOW REEFERS UNITE!!!!

  • Yea lets put fish in before the tank water is cycled. Lets torture the fish.Thats why most people with a brain do fishless cycle's of there tanks. fuckin nob end.

  • Ok lets see. A dude who can barely talk right, a tank with green plastic plants, and a quite simple to understand sump. The tank looks like shit.

  • dude, pros don't give a shit about keeping your tank healthy, in fact, if the fish die, it means they get paid to come back and set it up again. a hobbyist will take their time, plan it out, and set it up carefuly because they have alot more money put in to the system. i built my first SW tank at age ten and its been going for almost seven years now. you act like it is as hard as putting a man on the moon, but it is actually as easy as FW, if not moreso, because LR serves as an extra filter.

  • @Dannybroadsword1 amen(:

  • I think this video is hilarious. Your condescending tone and blatant heir of superiority is comical at best. Live rock and silk plants...HAHAHAHAHA...get real I was building far more complex systems at 16, having only a basic understanding of plumbing. This video is a fail.

  • sophistiated? the filtration is relatively simple, except for the pipes. the wet/dry is like a HOB filter or canister, only reconfigured.

also, you obviously don't know even basic cycling. let the tank run fishless for the first few weeks,to let the bacteria get a foothold, THEN add the fish.

  • Don't be so quick to criticize people. I know that expertvillage isn't all that and he really isn't helpful to a lot of us but the information that they are trying to give in this video are for people that don't have any experience. Remember, not everyone is an expert or at least moderately experienced. For the inexperienced it is best to have a professional install it for them, then the owner can learn how to maintain it from that point forward.

  • the title is ''How to Set Up Aquariums :How a 180 Gallon Saltwater Aquarium Works''

and then they say ''leave it to the professionals''

  • Comment removed

  • salt water fish tanks and freshwater fish tanks are tottally the same thing douchebag. whats scary is this guy owns a fish store.....pooor fish....

  • I'd be ashamed if that aquarium was in my house.

  • dude before i find ur address and beat the shit out of you, dont talk about professionals at all! u guys suck at being professionals; i bet that u just read all that u said from a script and no nothing about saltwater tanks at all! just go fuck urself and maybe i wont go and kick ur ass

  • @TheBettaKeeper

Any one would think this guy has just gone out and slaughtered an innocent young child the way some of you are chatting. WTF. So what if this video isn't at all helpful, big deal that he isn't an expert. Ok, the plastic plants are shitty but it's prickish to say it looks absolutely horrible. It looks alright( certainly not the best ) but it looks alright. The buttom of a ditch looks fucking horrible, a fucking bowl of dish water looks horrible.

  • @missrapture1 right-on, you tell'em. a bunch of nit-pickers. like you said, i think it looks alright, not great, but it's alright.

  • they should be renamed NOOBexperts.

congrats, they used live rocks, but fake plants...FAIL! if this is an LFS, its low budget. lots of LFS use real coral and waht not. these idiots dont know anything. soo dumb. i bet they read off wikipedia.

  • @proto35 You people kill me, Expertvillage make their living at what they do, and alot of what they do is deal with people that havent a clue. So yes the video was intended for the lamen.. As far as the fake plants and fake coral go I'll give an example, You set a tank up for someone that hasent a clue, you use LR and LP, opps accidental aptasia intruduction. Customer now calls flipping out, return journey to customer costs. Most ignorant people are happy with the mediocre, they dont know better

  • @proto35 Idiot, Expertvillage make a living doing this so yes the video was intended for the lamen. Let me inlighten you on the benifits of fake plants and Coral on a buisness stand point. You set up a tank for a lamen using LR and LP, Opps accidental aptasia, Bacteria, ect. introduction, Customer flips out. a return journey to the costomer is time and money. Ignorant peeps are happy with the mediocre cause they dont know any better. Yes plants also can have microscopic hitchikers, Bacteria, ect.

  • hahahahaha, there is no way that this setup is meant to sustain a saltwater tank long term, let alone a full on reef aquarium. Silly expert village.

  • Expert village is terrible

  • great... expertvillage

    f*king village people

  • anyone know how to clean coral?

  • wow im guesing ur a profesional there guy. and im pretty sure alot of experts r home owners. expertvillage is the worst source for information ever. it should be called douchevillage.

  • This guy is a total douchelord. I feel sorry for anyone he's punked out of their money!

  • You have no idea what ur talking about, u jew fuck ass tard. how bout i beat u over the head with a 5lb chunk of premium fiji rock

  • @downwithblacks THIS MADE ME LAUGH ALOUD SO HARD LMFAO OMG

  • what a dink how hard is it to stack rock, the only time id pay this jew fuck to stack rock is if my arms and the arms of every other semi retard person was cut off

  • I dont think bubbles look good in a saltwater tank... Reminds me of a cheap fresh water tank with one of them little plastic treasure chests that open and close. Just an opinion I guess.

  • Hi my name is Mark, and I really wanna steal your money for simple things like putting rocks in your tank.

  • this is a joke

  • FRESHWATER AND SALTWATER ARE NOT THE SAME! dont listen to this please its horrible advice. do not add fish in, the live rock will start its own cycle. after 2-3 weeks you can start to add 1-2 fish depending on your tank size. co not use an aireator as it will cause salt creep! bioballs are ok as long as you take them out and shake them in old TANK WATER.

  • Doesn't look too bad, I had expected a more natural look though. Real plants always look better than the fake ones, no matter how nice the silk is. Also,w hat do you consider to be experts? The people at my local pets shop don't know anything about fish, that was made pretty clear when they advised me to add cichlids to my axolotl tank. "It would look nice"

  • you were somewhat wrong bout the overflow system and didnt say how to setup a saltwater fish tank so this was i waste of my 2mins and 23sec's

  • if you cant set up the tank by yourself you shouldn't own one what are you gonna have a professional come in every week to do your water changes as well....give me a break!

  • you want us to pay a professional to place silk plants into a 5k tank? lol

  • I gave this video 5 stars for 1 REASON ONLY!

The man pointed out the best detail that every saltwater enthusiast should know. That is that it takes more then a month of cycling before better fish can be placed in the tank. I had to learn the hard way.

  • well keeping fish of any type you should cycle your tank ,,,, fresh salt or brackish ,,, and i gave it a 1 star ,,, thats comming from a icktologist

  • lol, icktologist. i have never had to deal with ick thank god, but i did deal with a storm that wiped out my whole aquarium and eveyone elses aquarium in the city, especially the stores.... sad shit. But ya, all aquariums should be cycled properly before use.

  • no ick is latin for fish ,,, as well as this parasite spond by temperature change ,,, but thats not what im talking about ,,,

  • leave it to the professionals so you can pay us. FUCK THAT

  • racist bastard.. leave it to the professionals cause they tend to do it fast and better then homeowners? LOL your head so far up your ass can you not tell what your saying.. dumbass..

  • i thought this was a expert village video ? well clearly theres a few NON EXPERT THING I CAN SEE ABOUT THIS TANK ,,, sorry epic fail

  • oh ok lol

  • 4-6 hours my ass

  • @xxTheReal118xx they bring in already cycled water.

  • i kinda like the ad.

  • I swear that people that own saltwater fish tanks are by far the most catty individuals in the world. I makes me embarrassed to even own one. Please keep your negative comments to yourself.

  • leave it to the proffesionals? dude you talk shit! its not that hard, you just want our money! doesn't really tell you how to set one up does it? dick!

  • ya notice the air bubbles freely flowing in the tank ,,, no real reef keeper let alone a pro would ever ever do this in a reef ,,, its way to dangerous to the reef creatures ,,, it almost impossible to remove air from corals or anemone once inside them and leads to cetain death ,,,,but then again it does look like any things real in that tank except the fish ,,, poor things they to can suffer from capilation

  • No. You are wrong. This tank is professionally built. The coral is plastic, and the rocks might be too. This is a fish only tank, not a reed tank.

  • so the bubbles wont cavatate under the skin of fish ? ya ok ,,,, well you dont know your fish then ,,, and if this is a pro set up ,,, every pro know that FISH only tanks dont need actinic lighting even if its not a REED tank lol

  • @bertie411 Firstly, you left off the word "typically", secondly... the title is "How to Set Up Aquariums : How a 180 Gallon Saltwater Aquarium Works" and NOT "How to Set Up Aquariums : How to Set Up a 180 Gallon Saltwater Aquarium" Also in the desc. it says "Learn about" not learn how to professionally install a 180gallon sw aquarium.

I see no problem with this video. Other than what samueldio said about too much plastic stuff.

  • It does no take 4-8 hours it takes about 2 get a real filter instead of that prehistoric piece of metal

  • too much plastic stuff in this aquarium, it is horrible

  • @samueldio all aquirums r like that it keeps fish happy

  • Expert Village my arse. Muppet

  • LOL get some fake coral and silk plants

  • okay what about the water, and chemicals? Don't you think you should explain that first?

  • fake coral sucks!!!

  • OMG! this really should be removed! bad advice!!!!!

  • sickening .... and talk about a old cycling method,

  • aweful looking tank mate!is it 1986 again?

  • lmao fake coral omg!

  • pretty much what kam said... i could do it just has fast... 2 hours, actually... fake coral is fucking retarded

  • Hey your show should be called Dumb ASS Village instead...LoL!

Fake ass shit! Are u sure the fish arent wind-up too?..LMAO!

  • i wouldnt pay your ass...specially to put fake coral in my expensive tank

  • look in a forum and

post a post that and say I am looking for

a knowledgable person to setup my tank

    that is near by!

  • Comment removed

  • You don´t need a "professional" fish-man!!!, and the fake koral? AND NO STARTER FISH!!! Yenita123 yes it is a good ting a man make a video, but NOT when it not right!!

is take 2 to 36 monds to have the right set-up to you saltwater-fish!!

  • Madsen2650 is correct...you don't need a "professional"... You should understand how to setup/maintain the whole tank or you shouldn't have one at all. AND NO STARTER FISH!!!

  • if you talk to a real enthusiast, starting a tank cycle with a live fish is a pretty much torturing the fish as the levels of ammonia or nitrite spike during the start of the cycle.

  • he knmos what hes talkin about but he needs some real shit till then fuck it haha nice guy like you know him personally????

  • nice nice not!!! get some real corals fuck that fake shit u aint got shit unless its living and u can keep it alive or set up ur tank to maintain itself get some real corals thats a big tank looks fucking gay haha what a joke ne one agree??????professional ha ha i could do thay with my eyes closed!!!!

  • because there is no institution that yo can go to and get a piece of paper that says "you are a professional at this hobby" lol except marine biologist i guess. so, any person you meet in this hobby is just like you... a hobbyist that learned the same way you did... by hobby experience and researching such as reading stuff on the internet or in books

  • well first of all the title is a little misleading just because of the fact that it doesn't show you how to set up an aquarium it only DESCRIBES how you would generally go about it while he points at different components. he's not much of help. i mean, setting up an aquarium is a little more complicated than "this here does that and then it goes in here and then....""... and you'll need a professional... blah blah blah" Thing is though that they're really is no "professional" in this hobbypart2-

  • nice

  • you guys well some of you are really mean to this nice guy at least he tryd i beat you cant even make a video becouse you guys wouid be shy

  • You shouldn't make a video explaining how to do things incorrectly.

  • A set up video in 2:23? Unreal

  • why would you put a tank next to a window, sunlight bad, also, it is physicly impossible to "pull" water into an over flow tank, it must be pushed, got any more info you need corrected expertvillage, dot, com?

  • 1, why use wetdry when you use live rock?

    2, bubbles

3, plumbing, through some more plumbing blah blah.. do you know what a bulkdhead is? Mr professional?

    4, silk plants?

I wouldnt hire you as a professional who uses starter fish

  • hi,

i want to convert to a marine reef tank with corals not a f.o.w.l.r tank. i have a 110 ltr tank and im going to buy a protein skimmer, 3000ltr/h wave maker and 1 white 40w T5 tube light and 1 blue T5 tube. do you think that and some live rock would be ok for filtering a tank with 3-4 fish in?..

  • You'd still need an R/O unit just to make the water safe to begin with.

  • Hey guys, I have a question about setting up a 29 gal freshwater aquarium and its about the New Tank Syndrome: I heard that I could buy various types of products that eliminates ammonia levels and prevents NTS, But i though about it and began to wonder if the NTS is necesary in order to allow helpful bacteria to grow, and if I introduce ammonia eliminating products into the aquarium the nitrogen cycle will never begin and in the long run it could be harmful for my fish. What should I do?

  • You want to cycle after you get your tank. But don't listen to this idiot. You CAN cycle fishless. You can even cycle using the most basic fish food. Just reply back and I'll tell you how.

  • how

  • I have had set-up videos. They were deleted cause copy right. Drop fish flakes in every 12 hours to get your cycle going. Do this untill it finishes. You will see an outbreak in algea so get a couple live plants to out compete the algea. This is the easyiest way to cycle fishless.

  • just get your tank setup with filters running and all. then let it sit for a month, you dont have to do any fishflake crap or anything just let it sit and it will cycle

  • Actually it is best to put things such as feeder fish in, their waste crates the healthy bacteria needed, then toss those, and add your good fish, to live, happy, healthy lives.

  • smartass2st is very wrong... There is a large difference between t5 lighting at home depot and the t5 lighting in the aquarium trade. Home depot does not carry the correct bulbs for one(even though they do have ones labeled as such). Two the ballast is cheap and does not light the bulbs properly which in turn throws off the output of the correct wavelength even more; In turn these two factors cause algae blooms. Lastly any SMART person would know about oxidation. Do the math; smartass-smart=ass

  • expertvillageDotCom don't know shit!
