James Baxter had a lot of practice doing animation with perspective and camera moves when he worked on Roger Rabbit. No one had this kind of technical challenge figured out better than Richard Williams. But man, Baxter's skill level shot up ten-fold for this movie, and it really shows.
a chip in his head? no mere mortal........... HES A ROBOT!!!! of course it all makes sense now walt disney didnt want some newbie doing his movies so disneys crones took his brain and put it in james baxters robot body!
haha "a mere mortal." James Baxter is made of awesome in this scene. It looks almost impossible to be able to create such camera motion like this! At least, when you're so used to seeing things at eye level and down to the ground. Props to him!
I am very glad I got to see this. I heard Beauty and the Beast was the first Disney movie that made that type of background you'll see on the final of the Ballroom scene. Completely timeless.
CG was used to create some 3 dimensional objects, like the giant clock, but was rotoscoped on paper still instead of direct CG in The great mouse detective.
this. is insane.

james baxter is amazing! i wish he still worked with Disney!

Disney fired all of their 2D animators because Disney are all 3D cunt-eaters.

not true. the princess and the frog exists. some were let go but others merged with the 3D department
giwduleoj 2 years ago 2
@MidoriValentine You're wrong. Many, many 2D animators have since been retrained to work as 3D animators. The skills are not all that different.

i completely love the fact that someone can draw every single movement of something and do it so gracefully.
james baxter is really talented. :] and beauty and the beast is the best disney movie in my opinion. <3
