@candycat- I don't know what experience you've had with sphynxs, but if you buy from the proper breeder you're not going to get a cat with a weak immune system. The only thing that would make their systems weak is a bad breeder. Mine offers a 5 year health guarantee

@CandyCat957 I have to disagree! I am the proud owner of a sphinx and a British short hair. My sphinx, Blossom, has never, ever needed a vet visit, other than the usual checkups. My Brit, Onyx, on the other hand, has had multiple health issues! They are no more susceptible to illness then other cats.

I know it is a myth in hairless dogs that they are warmer than other dogs; it just isn't true. They *feel* warmer because they don't have hair, and unlike us humans their skin hasn't evolved to be that way, which is why they don't hold heat as well.

@mahamostafa Well, technically Persians are also deformed (bred to be that way) as are Scottish Folds. It's not a deadly issue with them (unless you breed hairless to hairless without the furred breeding in between).

I have a female Spynx called Prune, if anyone is thinking of getting one of these cats beware they are quite a lot of work and need to be bathed and groomed regularly, but they are such unique cats and make wonderful companions

They haven't bothered me at all and I cuddle and play with them as much as I want (one's on my lap right now actually). Micro-Evolution is Scientific Law. And this cat, being bred specifically for its hairless mutation, is EXACTLY what micro-evolution is.

In this case, it was not natural selection that was responsible, but rather, specifically breeding cats for the mutation.

Other examples of potential micro-evolution in humans are the mutated genetics for Albinism and Red Hair.

3. Mutations - Ones that help survival thrive if reproduced in offspring, ones that hinder it die out.

I am a cat fancier to the core, and even I have to admit that the Sphynx is not the prettiest cat in the bunch. I think they would look a little bit better if they weren't so wrinkled. However, chihuahuas are the ugliest and most ill tempered dogs in existence, and they're still very popular, so I guess this means to each their own...
