Frankie was (and is) a master of dark humour. He'd make jokes in poor taste (to put it lightly), but they had style and a certain sense of charm. Furthermore (and this is the important bit), when a joke failed to entertain, as yours clearly did, he would own up to it. He would not raise his hands up and say "hey, I'm just keeping the dream alive, don't blame me!". Take your faux pas like a man, and don't compare yourself to a legend.
