black metal is more dark, evil, satanic, slow, heavy and is more like a really extreme and evil kind of heavy metal, while death focuses on speed, high pitched screaming and growling, pig squeels etc. I'd say death metal is more mainstream than black metal, and sometimes bands only growl in like 30% of the songs, the rest is clean, though death metal is always fast, and if not the bands focus more on guitar riffs playin harmonies and paralell key things and shit... my opinion of the both

Music is "noise," pleasant noise, but it is still noise, and any noise, "pleasant" or "disturbing," will be "torture" if played "over and over again." Especially if it is really loud.
Lars Ulrich is just saying that it doesn't make sense to use "Metallica" for "torture," not that it isn't "possible," it just doesn't make sense, he was saying that you could play way "heavier" music to torture somebody.
And "music" may have a better affect on torturing somebody, because "lyrics" can get stuck in your head, with just plain "noise" you go to "instant peace" once it leaves.

black metal is more dark, evil, satanic, slow, heavy and is more like a really extreme and evil kind of heavy metal, while death focuses on speed, high pitched screaming and growling, pig squeels etc. I'd say death metal is more mainstream than black metal, and sometimes bands only growl in like 30% of the songs, the rest is clean, though death metal is always fast, and if not the bands focus more on guitar riffs playin harmonies and paralell key things and shit... my opinion of the both

Metallica rocks...I remember seeing them opening for Ozzy Osbourne in 1986. I was blown away...RIP Cliff Burton. He passed just after I saw them that summer.
