The reason fighting is allowed in hockey and not other sports is that they're on skates so the punches aren't nearly as powerful. Also, there are only a few players on each team who usually fight and they all know who each other are (and not to go after a smaller non-fighter). Hockey players also tend to be more intelligent so they tend not to lose control in fights.
