saw Jerry with the White Trash Band in the early 1970's - outdoor concert in south carolina... they tore it up!! good thing it was outdoors cause they would have blown down the walls..
Thank you Mister La Croix, when i heard you with the white trash i decided to be a musician. I am 55 years old and i am still making a living playing music. I wish i can meet you one day. Scuse my bad english i am french Canadian from Montreal.
Or the Big Oaks. It was the best of times. Glad they're closed down by the time my kids got old enough to do all those things. But they got to listen the music, although only records. This is better. The ambiance isn't the same.
@jf99151 I saw Jerry LaCroix and White Trash at the Texas Pelican Club in Louisiana in the early 70's. Edgar Winter wasn't there. Across the River......some awesome music has been played at those clubs for many years.
My buddies and I made the journey from Huntsville, Texas to The Big Oaks, Lou Ann's, and The Showboat numerous times ca. 1965-67. We heard the Boogie Kings a lot. We were a few years short of the drinking age in Texas, but in the swamps of Louisiana, they didn't have a drinking age; They had a drinking height: tall enough to reach the bar with the money. I seem to remember the "night clubs" were in the middle of nowhere, just across the border. But that was a long time ago.
This is beautious!! I'm sure that I'm not the only one wondering this but is there any video footage of LaCroix with White Trash? I would love to see some footage of that band. "Roadwork" is a staple of soul/r&r.. one of the best albums ever! Jerry LaCroix = one of the most soulful singers ever!! Hope you're doin' better, brother!
Jerry lives here near Alexandria , Louisiana. He sings a little , and fishes. By the way, Edgar Winter is the singer on Tobacco Road. Jerry sang on Can't turn you loose, etc...
I saw the Tobacco Road tour with Jerry, Edgar, Johnny, and Rick Derringer...along with a kick ass rythm section with Hobbs and Bobby Ramirez. They tore the house down from beginning to end!
I been talkin up Jerry since the 70's when I heard the White Trash Band ( edgar winter) open for Jethro Tull During the Aqualung tour at Stony Brook University in Long Island!!( Im not so sure Otis & Jerry werent bruthas from difernt Muthas!)
Gonna try an post some audio from that CD, He aint a half bad sax player hisself!
Such awesome memories. And to Ponda1....most of the places were pretty rough when I first began going....and more than the bouncers.....when Mr. Navarre at the Circle Club banned regular bluejeans....it wasn't long that most of the fights stopped.
Jerry, Gee Gee, Ned Theall and all were fantastic. I live in Vegas now but the acts here still don't hold a candle to my favorite band of all time......those were the days.
one of the best soul singers of all time and my hero. He should be mentioned with the likes of Otis, Ray, and all the other greats. It's really a shame that most people don't know who he is!

Oh yes The Big Oaks. We went every weekend and they let us in regardless being 16 years old. Glad they let us in because we have the best memories and knowing we had the very music to grow up with. I still miss the Boogie Kings. Now that's pure talent from that group.
@Ggsraggy I spent many a great night drinking whiskey sours, dancing, and sweating, in THE BIG OAKS! This puts a chill up my back. !964 all over. How did we ever drive back to Vidor?
I grew up in Groves, TX. I'd go to the Big Oaks and listen to these guys. It brings back memories. When I first heard "Blood, Sweat and Tears", I thought the Boogie Kings had changed their name.
damn...Am I that old....? Grew up in DeQuincy,La....made the weekend trips to Vinton almost every weekend...underage drinking (16-17)..never had a prob getting in..and those older Texas girls were a hoot to us younguns....The Big Oaks...The Show Boat..and later the Circle Club.....there was one more in a line with the Oaks and the Boat..can't remember its name..
I even have an old mono album of them.."Live at the Bamboo Hut"...
Think it was the Palamino and Lou Ann's... both were kinda rough places LOL... I frequented the Big Oaks and the Circle especially because I used to live in Vinton in grammar school and I knew the owners son
Hi..Was thinking about this and I think the clubs in a row were the Big Oaks...Lou Ann's and the ShowBoat..And yes..they were kinda rough..the Oaks was the only one we went to then..until the Circle Club opened...headlined with Dean Scott and the Traits..Roy Head's old band..I think that is right..dang..that was a long long time ago...

There is no footage of White Trash from the early 70's. I asked Jon Smith. He said nothing that he is aware of.
