74MFoster took off 15 days before we left searching for jagursfan100's downed comment. Worried that he may not be alive for much longer without provisions. Bringing "Fall Be Kind" along to lift his spirits when we find him...
I mean does anyone else hear that? does this sound anything like R&B whiteboy soul boyband ? or does this sound like psychedelic pop? I thought it sounded like psychedelic pop but maybe i'm crazy
two summers ago i went to my friend Ben's appartment. I gave him four hits of the best lsd i had gotten that particular summer. I put on this album. Bewildered, he said to me during this particular track, "You know...I KNOW i've heard this before...but I dont remember this ever sounding a thing like this."
Amazing Beautiful song! 7-beat, all the way through. I love to count it in different ways... depends on whether I'm bobbin' my head to it, or drumming along with it. One of my all-time favorite songs. *ever*. I listen to it therapeutically, sometimes. I think of AC's music as Spiritual... ElectroTribal Shamanism.
@STEEZEMCGEE Yessss! I have to admit that I heard the Grateful Dead song second, but I was just looking through a list of songs that are in septuple meter because they're my favorite time signatures (This song and Unbroken Chain both have parts in 7/4) and I saw Unbroken Chain and I like Grateful Dead, so listened to it and recognized that Animal Collective sampled it.
3:19 okay that's just trippy. The main vocal melody is offset a beat early from the "what would i want sky?" sample. So not only is this song in 7/8, its in a staggered pattern. Yet it grooves so naturally. hot damn.
@SeanIsaacBillings Although your ears interpret these electronic swirling sounds as some crazy new phenomenon in music there really isn't much going on here in this song. If this song is this bands "Holy Grail" and you honestly believe that the Grateful Dead sucks in comparison (which is stupid to do in itself) you either haven't tried to or your mind cannot grasp the concept of the Grateful Dead.
@joshuaclaytondavis Not much going on? Compared to what? Casey Jones and its lazy campfire strumming? I would never speak ill of The Dead, but I doubt they would want you defending them in this way. I personally like Animal Collective better. If there's not much going on in this song (which is about 78 layers deep - I think you're hearing is damaged), then A Day in the Life must be hollow garbage. Point is, it's all just music. Now everybody shut up, Animal Collective is on.
My favorite song, and it's not even close. In the verse where Avey and Panda Bear split off it's like you can ride either voice as the melody and the other as the backing. Experience the same song in a totally different way.
Mad fucking props to whoever wrote the beat for the first half of this. They don't use typical sounds that somebody would use to make a sweet groove but they still make perfect sense in the context of this song. It's like a sonic swirl of beautiful cymbals emphasizing particular rhythms perfectly, with a fat bass drum sound to keep the forward motion of the song. I mean seriously, this song is in 7/8 and that beat is so fat it's just oozing with groove.
@jaguarsfan100 For the 2 second sample that sounds nothing like the original song? It pisses me off how many people think that The Grateful Dead deserve credit for this song. Animal collective obviously put so much work into this piece of art and made (in my opinion) one of the best songs of this decade. They did an amazing job of using the sample subtly, but prominent enough to take this song to a completely new level. They gave them the credit they deserve.
@IWantSky I think that the use of Greatful Dead's song should be mentioned but I totally agree with what you're saying. They did sample that song but it sounds nothing like it. And this song is for sure one of the best songs made this decade, possibly one of their best songs ever.
@StigmisIgnited I don't think that's true, and I have listened to AC while on acid and yeah it was amazing, but I think creative people have that world with them at all times, easier to access with psychedelics sure, but these inner worlds travel with us everywhere I believe
@junka22 couldnt agree more. I'd say that with lsd and animal collective, you're provided with two seperate amazing songs for each track. How it sounds amazing sober. and then how it sounds when you're tripping. you get two songs.
@ladyjane22100 I'm assuming you mean torture. No he didn't, wake up to the lies around you. Yes some of the prisoners were starved. Because the Jews had tricked the rest of the world into going against him. He had limited resources. So who gets the food? Your soldiers or the prisoners? POW's by the way were always treated with the utmost respect and dignity.
@ladyjane22100 You don't have the certainty of your beliefs? Well Mein Fuhrher is a kind and loving God. I am sure he will not allow your doubt to color his decision about you.
Animal Collective are the single greatest psychedelic band of our generation . This song to me is like the grateful dead passing on the torch, after this (Unbroken Chain) being the first song they ever released to anyone. Incredible
