Please !!! Every one but not Kissin. He plays very good but not CHOPIN !!!! And It's to slow. I think he was too young for that polonaise. He wasn't understand it
Trust me, I'm right. No one really like this pianist. They just watch him for speed. But he's cold. He can't play Chopin (real music, unlike Liszt). He never moves me or makes me cry or anything. If you can't do that, you may as well give up.
@1Thompsonmusic I've heard a lot of people say the same about kissin. I think he plays very well but he's just not my favorite for chopin and I think this piece should be faster :/
@1Thompsonmusic your comment really made me chuckle. this may not be kissin's best performance of this polonaise, but he is definitely more than another "empty virtuous freak." in any case, i checked out your performance of Chopin's A major prelude, and that should really be the definition of nothing. there's no phrasing, no passion, no feeling, nothing. seriously, in that video you play worse than a five-year old child. so before you mock kissin, please get your head screwed on properly.
What I think is genius about composers is that they can make this breathtaking music in the tiny scope of 10 fingers. It's remarkable that they can make this music while still keeping in mind ones hands.
@uoiyoel I absolutely disagree with your last statement. Listen to Horowitz's recording of the E minor nocturne from his 25th Anniversary concert and you will realise how wrong you are.
When I find an Evgeny Kissin video on YouTube, it doesn't matter when the video was recorded... whether he was 15 or 38 I know it's going to be spectacular.
I think this is a slower, majestic version - played by a genious before he has reached his peaked maturity. I am sure one will find different versions by Kissin which are just as good, if not better. Re: the hair comment, I saw him in New York (Lincoln Center) a number of years ago and could not get over the wild hair which moved the audience as he moved so passionately. I think it is very cute. Though he has shorter hair now :)
I think when this was recorded on video he was so young to play this piece... but there is a live Carnegie Hall recording of it on one of his Chopin CDs when he was a bit older and he plays it much better and more passionately. Still, for his age here, this is an impressive recording.
pogorelich plays it best, but i don't say that kissin is bad, he is one of the best, and I love his work, but for this piece, pogorelich is the best, listen to him, you're gonna love it... :D
damn i love this video and this song and chopin and evgeny. i am learning this song right know. when i have learned it perfect i will post it on youtube
@callenishss But Kissin is world famous. It's his technique. Horowitz played with his fingers flat not curved... Just because he's not following a classical mechanics course doesn't mean his technique is wrong or bad
Besides how many slips did rubinstein do in his career ? can't count them anymore.........even when he was at the top of his art, so Kissin deserves a big appolause for this performance, as many said he's ONLY 15 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

once again i'm not talking about mistakes, just the way it's played. everyone makes mistakes where only human, it's his technique that i believe is wrong.

Fair enough i see where your coming from, and i haven't listened to it again since i first heard it. and your right people do need to just enjoy music instead of finding faults in it. : )
One thing to add: Horowitz is nearly the last person i would take as a good technique example, he did so many things only to be not the "normal" pianist but the sound suffered .
in my opinion sound only suffers when its always played, produced and heard the exact same. thats why we have what you call 'not the "normal" pianist'. the world needs people like horowitz.

horowitz played it way better, it needs the sense of hesitation and flow at the same time, i admire kissin greatly but this is not his best performance.
maybe...but theres been a lot of interpretations of this piece and most are different to the other. Its definatly one of chopins harder pieces but unless people can play it right it's immortal beauty should not be be ripped apart by amateuers who give the piece the wrong feeling. like i said kissin is an incredible pianist but he should have thought twice about this particular piece.
Keep in mind, he's only 15 here and I'm not sure how old Horowitz was when he played this...but I'm PRETTY sure it wasn't at 15...probably later on in his life. So, obviously he would have had more experience. I'm not saying that your opinion is wrong..I'm just saying that you should consider that Kissin is still quite young here :)
You point is valid and its good to hear your opinion, i still think that if your going to play a piece try your best to get it right because theres a lot of harsh critics out there who are waiting to hear a wrong note so they can have a field day about on the news or what-have-you. stevey226 2 years ago 2
kissin`s technique is still within the frame of proper technique for pianoforte with the current weighted action pianos. extra lifting is not a sin
a sin would be to keep the hand level and press with individual fingers. the efficiency then drops way down.
so what he`s doing is still using the weight of arm, which is the universal ``proper`` way of modern pianoforte technique pioneered by chopin
callenishss 2 years ago
That was meant for nipxu.
