I like the dynamics!! However, in the last phrase of right hand accents and crescendo, there are two left hand accents directly before the fortissimo. I didn't see it until my professor pointed it out, but it does change. Good vid!
@sollister00 Thanks for checking it out. However, these accents on the "e's" are a misprint. You need to get the Cirone Portraits in Rhythm with the complete study guide book. That line was misprinted in many copies. The original version I had back in my undergrad had it correct, but for some reason it started to get misprinted. The Complete Study guide has all of Cirone's musical suggestions.
Okay, since I don't have access to the snare I want, I will do a remo pad version very soon. I've studied this etude with Tony and there is so much more to it. YES play near the rim. Also play along the snare and not toward the throw! Use a multi-snare system like black swamp and you can play as close as your renaissance or fiberskin 2 head maintains it's color. Look at two bar phrasing on this piece.
@infinity182yahoo Thanks for the post. I look forward to hearing your post. I looked hard for a drum that I really liked. This one here is the one I chose. It is the Yamaha Concert with the Rosewood block shell. It has a great multi-strainer as well. I use calf skin heads on the top and bottom. A fantastic drum if you are still looking. Take care and all the best.
@courtneyybethann - I doubt it is that bad. Plus, this is still one of the hardest in the Cirone Etudes. I still would like to play it better. Good luck with your competition.
So this just crushed my dreams because I thought I was doing good on this piece for my solo and ensemble competition this Saturday and you just made my playing seem like I was one of the little 7th graders trying to play the high school stuff. D:
@purplehaze0120 I appreciate any and all feedback from all in the You Tube community. I ask that please be adult enough to curb the use of profanity. I keep this channel for my students and other professionals. If you can not do this then please do not write any longer, or I will remove you from commenting thank. I look forward to seeing and hearing your performance of this Etude soon since you are clearly very much involved in the process of critical analyzation of this music. Best of luck.
Hi iwaslikepffft - regarding the 10th line if you have it accenting the e and a of that last grouping then you have a misprint in your music. Pick up a copy of Cirone's version of this book called the complete study guide. It has is guidelines for each piece as well as a much better printed version of each.
Finally! A Cirone piece not only played well, but on a snare that actually has good sound quality, and doesn't ring at a million decibels. It seems like every other YouTube video of this is played so loud you can't quite hear the full articulation.
Bringing the sticks up to your chin looks ridiculous, and playing on the edge of the drum sounds like shit. Cirone didn't write for drum corps drummers.
@warboy3209 There's a difference between 'near' the edge of the drum and on the edge of the drum. He's playing right where the corner of the head is and it sounds like garbage.

@purplehaze0120 That's funny seeing how in the study guide Cirone wrote he says to play softer passages near the edge of the drum...

This is pretty much the only correct one on youtube. Nice.
