I was present when Rysanek did Act I WALKURE in concert for her silver jubilee concert in New York City at the Metropolitan Opera. It was incredible. She also sand a few performances as Elisabeth that season. Hofmann was the Siegmund., and sang Act II Kundry in concert at the jubilee.

After decades of hearing and seeing Leonie in Vienna, MET, SF, etc, I finally met her backstage after her last Houston Klytemnestra....strange, it was like meeting an old friend. I showed her a Vienna poster 1957 of her ARIADNE which she signed. She looked at me and said, "Robert, THAT was a different time"...and we both stared at the amazing Strauss cast. What a voice and temperament. WOW!!!! Little did I know that she would only be around a few more years.

She's a singer who deserves a lot of respect, all the more because of the fact that at the age of 63 she could still sing like that. A shame she had to go at the age of 71. She definitely would have enjoyed seeing EMW doing this part.

Je pouvais de la ecouter finalment ici au "palau de la musica" de Valencia dans son version du Klitemnestra au Elektra de Richard Strauss et elle va etre de maniere inconmesurable dans une Klitemnestra qu´elle donais pour a toute le public. Elle va mourir un anee apres. Pour moi c´est un cadeaux du ciel d´ecouter elle. BRAVISSIMA!!!
Jerusalem has a beautiful voice, but this repertoire seems to tax him. Heldentenor? Not convinced. Good singer? Yes. One has to accept Rysankek as she is: Exciting, yes, but the voice was never quite focused or resonant. The middle and bottom voice are a bit hollow. She had a strong top.
It´s really amazing how Rysanek has kept her voice, taking into account that in this video she was 63! A great loss in opera. I also like Jerusalem´s voice.

Mais, surtout, il est remarquable que, pour une fois, l'image restitue l'image de l'artiste géniale que fut Mme Rysanek-Gaussman. Ce n'est que sur scène que son impact, la qualité de sa voix et son jeu emportaient tout, définitivement, dans tous les contextes musicaux et scéniques. Et là, exceptionnellement, on le voit !
