Yes, he was a fine cat. It was strange that during his youthful years he was somewhat reserved and disdainful of being held and petted and such; as he became middle aged (just like me) he mellowed out and sought my lap to sit in and be petted.
My cat is just the same...She is 16 now, and in her old age is getting quite effectionate..Funny thing, she has learned also to purr so that you can hear her. She used to purr without sound..one could just feel the vibration.
My mother hardly even thinks of Zipper now, since he was much more affectionate with me than with my mom. Cheeto, the other cat, still climbs up into her lap with regularity. So we have the cat fancy thing covered.
Thank you. I am not nearly as badly affected as some folks are when they lose a pet. Perhaps my perspective is a little too long in that I know cats come and go every 15 to 18 years or so, but the people in my life are around for, well, a lifetime.
At the same time there is a reason for the term Dog Years. If every individual that ever lived had his life fractioned so that it coincided with a nice...I don't know...ratio...we could all refer to each other in dog years. Now does that make any sense I ask you?
In other words you take a look at your faithful cat and you know he's eight years old. Well you don't treat him like he's one and tearin' the place all to hell. You show some respect for your friend. One can observe such things in people at times I reckon.
Oh no :( I am so sorry.. You saw the stray fella here in my neighborhood on my youtube. If you were local you could take him in. :) We plan to take him with us when we move and make him an indoor kitty. I hope your house is full of feline life again soon!
Thank you. I am still thinking about another trip to the shelter, since my mom keeps referring to the "cats." Not that Cheeto is lonely. It's just that I need to get the house back up to full strength on cats.
He sure was. Other than the obvious miss on his health condition my only regret is not getting him into one of the cat magazines in his younger days. He really had a perfect, glossy coat, perfect color contrast, and a flawless tuxedo color distribution. There is no doubt in my little mind that he was magazine material. Unfortunately I didn't make enough moolah to justify a real camera, so I had to settle for stills off of my cheapie digitals. Not magazine quality imagery.
Thank you. I am still thinking about another cat, because Cheeto doesn't spend nearly enough time in my mom's lap. The animal shelter can hook me up with a real needy, attention-craving cat -- just what my mom wants.
Yeah, that's why I had Zipper post-mortem'ed. There was no way to know if he had been poisoned, had some communicable disease, or whatever. He died in the kitchen and I spent a half hour cleaning the whole kitchen floor very throughly with disinfectant before I let the other cat back into the house.
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is essentially a genetic condition that eventually asserts itself. Had it been detected it could have been treated with drugs, but the vet never saw it coming.
What a beautiful cat he was...I am so sorry, it is always so hard to loose a beloved pet!

He'll never be a completely indoor kitty, but at least he'll come around when he's hungry. That you can count on.

I'm sorry =( That's really scary to have no warning whatsoever. Zipper looks like my kitty, Whiskers :)
