High class music by a really high class piano duo. Too much virtuosity ? Yes. If you want to get what Milhaud tried to give , you can take the Labeque sisters' interpretation of this wonderful suite , in ther Piano Fantasy album set. It is more French and more Milhaud , for sure.
I really don't mind some wrong notes and I totally agree with that tempo also -is samba and not a rhumba, anyway! Perfect pedalisation and precise, dry rhythm ! Really cool !
Im the greatest Argerich fan, but I have to admit that this piece, Brazileira, is given a much better rhythmic treatment and overall more interesting phrasing, and better contrasts and buildups by these two gentleman. Who are they by the way? Its a most buoyant interpretation. I love it. Perhaps it was Kissin who spoilt it for Argerich by his fast and technical approach. She probably had no choice but to go along with him as it was a live recital, and she had given him the primo part.
I really doubt that Martha was the one following tempo. She's known for breakneck tempi and she'd never "follow" just because someone chose to do things a certain way. I'm sure he followed her if anything.
This could be, Martha does tend to favor break neck speeds,as you say.. But in this case I thought she MIGHT have graciously acceded to Kissin, as he had the primo part. But I agree, Martha is not the personality type to be "led "by anyone!

Brilliant, though I'm thrown that they choose not to alternate the melody lines at measures #198 and #233 as written.

I love Milhaud! His music is so charming. This interpretation brings out the character of the work beautifully.

Argerich and Kissin's version is the best.
