  • every story needs a hero. Even if Prime is not in every comic or cartoon, he still looms in the background almost godlike and is remember by the very essence of the Transformers world. Prime is present even when absent.

  • Listen to the listener questions for WTF@TFW episode 110 for a suggestion from me.

  • @ZimMan2 Me being Gojira Prime.

  • I agree with u Dave , thank you !!!!

  • I have always hated Bumblebee. I just want to punch him in the face

  • After seeing the original video and your own response, I think the better question would have been "Does Transformers need Megatron?"

  • @yugisr That'll be stupid. Thats why we all have Starscream for :)

  • glad i watched this first as it allowed me to focus more on a fiction pov instead of hasbro pov (well the first half anyway)

  • I think by making someone else the perfect leader, it allows the Prime character to be different. Optimus can have flaws and bad character traits because he's not the leader and therefore not neccesariy the role model character of the group. If we are going to always have a Prime it's better to see him change. Beast Machines kind of did and from what I read in Ongoing...I liked the idea of Prime just reaching a wall after seeing too much war and death.

  • This discussion is a bit of a no- brainer. Of course Transformers doesn't need Optimus Prime, but most of us want Optimus Prime. That´s why there are so many versions of him, in so many size and prize classes (not to mention repaints). We want Optimus so we buy Optimus. The sales figures carries over into marketing or "fiction" as it´s also called. Hasbro and Takara need Optimus. The rest of us just want him. Well, the vast, vast majority of us anyway.

  • i think some people are looking at the situation backwards. the arguments are that cullen is getting old and that it's a rehash. but hasbro is starting their own tv network and why is that? yes, the property is creating the opportunities for itself. you can't even say that cullen is voicing prime in transformers prime because hasbro decided it. the network exists because hasbro has successful properties therefore we know who is opening the door for who. so anyways, where the eff is mp jetfire?

  • ah fantastic dave! debate is good! and you've straight off the bat mentioned the one factor i forgot to mention - marketing - this is a brand after all!

But I guess that kiiind of reinforces the criticism of Prime being like a weight around the fiction - like he _has_ to be in the show, because he's so woven into the brand. Like you say, a Superman. Rodimus Prime is an interesting one in that respect - clearly a different kind of Prime - but was he worse for it? I feel another vid coming up!
