If you research it, she actually suggested Sally Fields to play the part. She said something along the lines of, no one could portray Peggy's anger better than Sally Fields. From everything I've heard she was very happy with the movie.
the woman the book is based on died in 1998, Mason died of breast cancer at the age of 75,her real last name is Mason,? so how did you hear from her??????it is sad and i hope sybil (Shirley Ardell Mason)the real woman finally can rest her soul no longer tormented by the pain she felt.
I didn't say I heard from her, I said from what I've heard, in other words, READ. Read the book and it states that Shirley Mason suggested Sally Field for the part back in 1976.
espero que puedan pasarmela completa si alguien de ustedes la tiene con subtitulos o en español o doblada al español, por favor la necesito para una tarea, soy de mexico estado colima un saludo a todos espero respuesta pronto.
I finished the book a couple of days ago and I loved it. Most moving story I've ever read. I've seen the newer version of the movie...but, I want to see this version..I can't wait =]
There is a 30 year Anniversary double disc version of the mini-series available through Amazon - so possibly also at through online auctions, a book or video shop. It has additional features like interviews with Sally Field and some of Mason's artwork.
I've heard that Dr Wilbur exploited Mason in some way, but from how she's portrayed in the movie, it seems she really genuinely cared about Mason. They were friends for the rest of their lives! That says something, to me!
i've read the book and i'm very very very glad that they left out a majority of the stuff that happened in the book out of the movie. they couldn't have shown that stuff on tv at all.
honestley i didnt like this movie.. it barely shows anything that actually says in the book. they changed the story entirely.. it was dissapointing to me... loved the book though...
After years of frustration, I finally just had to accept that films and novels have their own way of telling the same story. Valley of the Dolls, Sybil, Carrie. The Exorcist and 1984 are the only 2 (I've read) that come close to being the same.
Just enjoy them both. Divorce yourself from the story (in the movie) and enjoy the performances and production.
you're right, some book based movies really suck, but others are really good movies despite the fact they had murder the book to write the screenplay.
I just finished reading this amazing book a couple of days ago. One of the most moving stories I have ever read. Saw the movie immediately afterwards, too.
My eyes are filled with tears, not much else to say... You did an excellent job, and I really liked the song too.
Because it was originally a made for TV movie she did win an emmy. She had previously played a character with multiple personalities, for that role she did win a oscar.
Actually, Sally Field won the Emmy, but it was Joanne Woodward (who played Dr. Wilbur) who won the Oscar for playing a person with Multiple Personality Disorder - the movie was The Three Faces of Eve.
The song is by New Order. Can't recall the name of the song, but I think it's listed in the info here for this video clip. The same song was used in the movie "Pretty in Pink" too.
As a dissociative disorder freak, I'd love to see the movie. If someone really feels like uploading it, I'm more than grateful. And this "trailer" was very well done! I liked it.
I like how the therapy sessions went outside of the office, and into a beautiful park setting, as in the last scene. It seems the director took into account the fact that the big crux of Sybil's disorder was too big for a small office environment. As to give the movie a big finish.
I do "sybil" as a cut in Dramatic interpretation, i perfrom as sybil and doctor wilbur along with all the personalities, thank you so much for putting this up ^.^ it makes me happy that someone else appriciates Sally fiel'd amazing performance in this movie
It was a horrific movie. I know how it feels to suffer from a dissociative disorder. It's a great defense mechanism when your young...to shield you from either physical or emotional/mental abuse.
I cried every time I saw the movie..brought back awful memories myself
arrgh i wanna see this movie! i have the book its really good. and the little girl who plays sybil is soo cute.
