I've logged in to pay my respects to the man whose "Jesus" I've loved ever since I bought the record(s), maybe a year after the movie came out. I saw the movie many years later, and I loved it as well. Your live rendition of Jesus Christ Superstar will be sorey missed, Ted, as you brought to it a unique humanity that was and still is very relevant. We'll always have the movie and the records though. And recordings like this one by people who are kind enough to share them. Thanks all.

Spectacular! Some clips would indicate he had a rough time bringing it like he used to, but this was phenomenal. Such pain and emotion through the song. I am go glad I got to see him perform the role a few times. He's the best!

I will never get tired of seeing this video...thanks for the peek. I'd like to think I will see Ted perform again, maybe not JCS but his vocal talents lend him for just about any music he decides to do. Four generations have been given a gift of this music by Neeley, I can only hope my new grandaughter and I will sit around the DVD and share JCS together if not the joy of live stage with NEELEY. Ted Neely deserves to be retired. His voice has inspired so many through the years, but almost 40 years of singing the same stuff has drained his voice. The clarity he once had is now grainy, but inspirational nonetheless.

I will always love Neely no matter what. His own cds are awesome too!

Ted Neeley has a GOD-GIVEN talent with THAT VOICE! I am a musician and a singer,and I've never heard someone sing so effectively. Pure emotions and raw.He does have a great singing voice. He is ordained by God to play this part..even if it seems he's been playing this for such a long time.I really believe that God allowed Ted Neeley to play Jesus' role in this play.This is my opinion.

Ted Neeley is the best performer for this role, nobody gives back to the crowd the emotions like he does. Also if he's more than 65 (in this video) when he's on the stage he is stronger than other young prformers, this shows that tecnique without passion is nothing! He is absolutely the best, respect and love for Ted.

@zakolebalsya Most likely. He says otherwise, but the role requires so much physical and vocal stamina. That said, he's pulled through for this long. Touring in the 70s, a five-year tour in the 90s, and a four year tour in the 2000s.

I saw this in Bing NY- I was willing to give way to his age and th fact that he has NEVER stopped doing this role- I didn't expect the his to be so high nor emotional. He floored me. I have been listening to him doing this part since the first album, countless other performers and NO ONE does this justice like he does.

@moviesrule23 Yeah. There will never be a replacement for Ted Neeley. To be fair, he's getting up there in years, pushing 70. It's a vocally and physically demanding role for someone half his age.

The scream is really good, but he really needs to stay on beat. At the end of the song, he is going so slow that the orchestra is probably about two beats ahead of it. He can't even get to the line "I didn't start it" because the orchestra is already starting the next part.
