Recorded early in 1931, one of the last English Columbias to be made by the Westrex system [WA] soon to be replaced by Blumlein's moving-coil system [CA]
The first song "I Wonder If It's Really Love" is from "Shanghai Lady" 1929 with Mary Nolan. The sound version of that film is lost. The second song is "Life Can Be So Lonesome" is from "Second Choice" 1930 which starred Dolores Costello and Chester Morris. This film is also lost. I would really love to hear the other side (the waltz medley) as it might also contain other songs from Lost Films. If you could post it I would really appreciate it.
The first song is from an American movie called Shanghai Lady which is from 1929 starring Mary Nolan and James Murray. The second tune is by Al Dubin and Joe Burke. If I´m not mistaken is was sung by Al Jolson, don´t know which movie, though. Thanks a lot for uploading this nice recording.
@tlt1536 : This is a british recording so i guess the tunes are taken from british movies from the early 1930s. The movie titles are unknown to me, sorry.
I recorded this to my mobile phone and played it to my 16 month old nephew who grinned each time and rocked in rhythm! His mother and grandad were not so interested sad to say!!
Hi, thanks for posting ! On the other side there's only an uninteresting waltz medley. It's the only record of this Medley series i have, sorry ! Maybe another user can offer the other parts....?
I totally agree-a real good "melody fox-trot",of a type that is a perfect example of the period.I remember a music magazine from 1939 where people sent in songs they had written, and the reviewer gave criticism.I remember one that said "out dated-has the sound of a tune of ten years ago",excellant then i say!!
