  • who's the dick taking pictures during the performance? fuck, some people are so stupid.

  • Great piece of music. Excellent performance and such a beautiful lady.

  • @JanJurk Thank you for your comment. I'm so pleased to hear that.

    Thanks a lot to you!

  • I guess everyone here can lament that they never will be able to see Chopin playing it, not even here on Youtube.

  • That's great

  • @uutbchh Thank you!

  • Beautiful reading on one of the prettiest of Chopin's pieces. Many have played, a few managed to do it well. Though the preludes in Opus 28 were considered, at the time, etudes or drafts. I think Prelude #4 translates, when well executed like this, Chopin's tortured and passionate spirit. Bravo!

  • @LadyGeliebte Thank you for your kind comment.

I want to re-study this prelude and all of preludes of Chopin's in near future.

I have a lot of works to do for playing the piano.

Anyway, thanks a lot to you.

  • beautifully played. I enjoyed the emotions and feelings that came through your playing. Thank you for sharing.

  • @2007nc Thank you for enjoying it and your comment.

I am so sorry to reply too late because I was out of Hong Kong.

This performance was about 7 years ago, so I maybe change to play it now.

I love this piece (also all of preludes).

I want to play through the preludes one day.

    Thanks again.

  • @TonTonCharlie01 Thank you!

  • I liked very much the way you played, soft and slow as I think it should be (largo). Thank you!

  • @oiclaudianna Thank you for your kind comment.

I am so pleased to read it.

    Thanks again.

  • Why the hurry? Did you have a train to catch?

  • good

  • very nice! a good version!

  • @nestee86 Thank you so much!

  • Lieblingsstück!

  • very nice. i like how you keep on knocking on the mood i get from this piece.

  • Thank you for seeing it and your comment.

I am so glad that you like it.

I will play it one day...(again)

  • Beautiful interpretation.. i liked it very much

  • Thank you so much! I'm glad!!

  • The beauty of music is that it is open to individual interpretation and individual performance. It's interesting that most of your comments relate to timing, dynamics etc.. Just play it how you feel at the time you sit down to play, music always requires our current emotions to give it that magical special something else. You are at a level of playing that you can use that emotion. Just do it your way! Very nice performance of one of my favourite pieces. Thanks!

  • The song at 1:12 is veery good!

  • Thanks, I feel the same as you.

  • i did this piece for AMEB fifth grade exam. i also did my own composition and bach invention 13. Learning the invention nearly killed me and i find it hard to believe they could be the same level. When this piece is played, personally i love it when the player really hits that octive. Seriously, if u ever decide to do this piece again, really go for it.

btw while i did my exam having this vid on yt really helped me learn the piece, so thank you! :) <3

  • I think they are equal because it's extremely hard to make the left-hand as soft and not so staccato, and to make the melody clear and loud. The inventions has lots of ´technique, while pieces of Chopin is to show you emotions. However, there is a lot of technique in his pieces to.

  • Thank you for your comment.

    I agree!

  • Thank you for your comment.

    >Learning the invention nearly killed me

    hahahahaha!!!

sorry.. yes, Bach is quite difficult, but studying Bach is better for you ( not just for you, for everyone).

I had studied all of invention 3 times when I was a student.

Please keep it up! Thanks a lot!

  • I liked it very much. I'm learning this piece now. In fact, I'm playing it at a recital tomorrow. O.o

It was very emotional.. and that's what I think Chopin was all about. Since he was during the Romantic Period. But it was a littlleee to fast. And I think the left was a little to hard. But other than that.. it was AWESOME. :D

  • I am so sorry to reply too late, because I was out..in another country.

    How was your recital?

I hope you enjoy playing it.

and I would like to see your performance.

If you post it on youtube, please let me know!

    Thanks a lot.

  • I enjoyed this video.

I am getting a 12-string guitar in about 4 weeks from Australia and will be working on this piece for it, so I am watching as many different recitals of it as I can.

  • Thank you!

I am very interested about your 12-strings guitar playing.

Please let me know when you post it on Youtube!

I look forward to see it!

  • its wonderful!! ive seen other videos and i think urs is the best, but i have a question: is it ok if its played faster?, im studding this prelude and i inconciently play it faster because maybe i enjoy it more...

  • Thank you for your comment.

I am sorry to response too late.

I think you can play faster than it, of course.

    Mine is a bit slower.

  • I like all of the people saying to play with more feeling, when infact anyone who knows anything genuine about music knows emotion in music is subjective.

  • you did a great job, i have to play this at my next recital. it's hard, i've only been playing a year

  • Thank you for watching it and your comment.

I look forward to see your video.

  • i agree with most people here,

You did an excellent job on this, no doubt. very emotional.

BUT, in my opinion the left played to aggresivly, and this piece was played a tad too fast. The volume swells were nice but they seemed to be used a little too much.

I think you did an amazing job with this piece. keep it up!!!

  • Thank you for your comment.

I really understand what you mean.

    I also think so.

This performance was about 5 years ago.

I do think about them when I play it in the future.

    Thank you again.

  • it needs more feeling. 1:13 to about 1:16 i play louder. good job tho

  • I think you're tempo was not steady .

It could have sounded better if the left hand was a little softer .

certain areas I found you're timing for some notes went wrong.

Still it was a nice attempt :)

  • Chopin played rubato, he didn't use a strict and steady tempo. When it's played right(with rubato) It conveys more emotion and sounds much better, this was actually played closer to Chopin's than much i have seen, good job =]

  • really, i've only ever read the exact opposite, that chopin was very strict when in came to timing. Archived writing by his pupils reveal this as well.

  • quite great !

  • this is no rubato ... at first she bgins slowly but than she becomes faster and faster ... the song lives from the emotion of the player !

  • I think its a little aggressive at the beginning, and the left hand came a little strong which distracted from the melody (I bet this was intentional, but its not my preference) overall though it was pretty good. 8.2 / 10

  • you need to connect to the piece to play music like this. this performer is evidently moved by this song, giving it that almost perfect touch.

    brilliant work.

  • wonderful great job

  • The notes are really easy and you can basically sight-read it but it's so hard to make it sound nice!

  • nice interpretation

  • I think the song is a little more slowly,

    but that was great!

  • I love this piece. I used to play it Your's is

    very good.

    Sincerely, Dave Hart

  • Linda apresentação Pennehk...Emotion!!!!!!

  • isnt this normally c minor? whatever great performance!! 5/5

  • Nope e minor.

  • always Em Opus 28 No. 4

  • Just because something is simple doesn't make it incredible. Look at the moonlight sonata or pachelbel's canon in d. Very simple songs and some of the most well known and moving pieces ever composed.

  • This was played so nice. Who cares about what a few losers have to say.

  • i didnt say it was bad it just sounds so simple. you wouldnt understand meanny you dont play piano. dude i like this song

  • it's not so simple, try playing it, you'll see !! and it's even harder to get that emotion :)

  • so why do you say then meaple leaf rag sounds sick and is harder? who wants to compare these pieces? and a "easy" song isn't always easy to play, so i think many of the easier chopin nocturnes or preludes are pretty hard to play because they need some feeling, not just technique. this really wasn't bad in my opinion

  • Agreed. This is a much harder piece to play well than anything Scott Joplin wrote.

  • Emotionally, yes. But technically...I think Joplin may be harder.

  • Actually, your exact words were "this is badddddddddd".

    Do you remember this??

  • few chords on the left hand beep beep here and their on the right. i play piano and sorry this is baddddddddddd sorry sorry sorry but maple leaf rag sounds sick and is harder. i wanna learn maple leaf rag next

  • this is a hard song in the sense of the emotion you have to feel for it. im having trouble with the emotion myself.

  • nice job!

  • technically its not hard, but to play it with the feeling its supposed to have is the hard part.

  • Really nice! its such an easy piece, but u make it sound like so much more :]

  • Beautifully played, very emotional piece. I've posted my version above :-)

  • that was SO GOOD , GOOD JOB~~~~~~~

  • I love to play this piece, though I could never play it as good as you. You put so much emotion into your playing! Excellent job!

  • Very nice! when you play, you can almost feel the emotion. A good pianist always shows emtion while playing.

  • It seems a little too fast, but still well performed.

  • Very simple, very beautiful and quite difficult to play. You played it with a lot of expression without ignoring the mechanics. I loved it !

  • It's not difficult to play, what's difficult is to convey the emotion...

  • I like it, good job. Plus the dress is very pretty :)

  • In the RCM this is a gr.7 piece only chords but i think its the emotion that has to be put into this piece. I am now playing thins song and getting ready for my exam I am very excited to play such a piece like this, plus its like my best songs. I love how u played but for somereason i think ur triplet is somewhat lacking ?

  • It was a excellent performance, BUT the middle passage part wasn't very driven and pumped. Anyway NICE JOB

  • Japanese are best performers novadays

  • Totally wrong, that's just judging by a few people. What about those Chinese people like Lang Lang, Yun di li, George li?

  • she is a very good performer (i've seen other videos from this concert) but i feel she has played it far too fast.. beautiful piece though.

  • Thank you for playing this piece. I am learning it, and having a difficult time with that tricky passage, listening to you really helps. Thanks!! Sounds great!!

  • very well played. when im on a specific peice i like to go on utube and c how its played cus in order for me to do very well in the song i like to listen to it first to no what its supposed to sound like. VERY BEAUTIFFULLY PLAYED! :)

  • Brava! You play beautifully and with passion for this very sad piece. One wonders what Chopin was feeling ahd why he wrote it.

  • This was the last piece Chopin played before he went deaf or blind. I forgot what my piano teacher said.

  • A haunting tune beautifully played - an absolute joy to listen to. Thank you for posting it. Greetings from Scotland.

  • ya know what, after another listen, the tempo seems perfect. there's so many speeds on this one all over youtube, this one seems to fit the best. besides, i was playing at granny speed before so what do i know

  • Thank you for watching it.

    >there's so many speeds on this one all over youtube

I think so. I think....most important thing is the player's emotion. The emotion makes the tempo...I'm wrong? maybe...

  • oh so true! when you're caught up and feel so powerful with this prelude, it changes things. i agree with you!

  • Really? I'm so glad about that.

  • You're absolutely right, in my opinion one has to emit that emotion throughout the entire peace...very well played!

  • Maybe you could get a little louder in the middle with the disonant part. But otherwise, beautiful! (I'm only 14, so what do I know)

  • What grade is this song in? I'm in gr. 9 piano and 15 years old. I started when I was 7.

  • Thank you for watching it.

and...I'm sorry, I don't know what grade this tune is. So sorry.

  • Nvm, I know now. It's Gr. 7.

  • Thanks!

  • ive been playing less than a year but i can play this decently (not as good as you!) but what grade would i be in?

  • r u sure cuz ive been playing 3 years and im working on this song rite now. and it doesnt seem grade 7 cuz its jes a bunch of chords and octaves(right hand is super simple) but ya

  • in canada grade 7-9 is a gigantic jump. Maybe I read wrong, but if you want a gr. 9 song, look up turina's sacro-monte.

  • Thank you for your comment. I'm sorry to reply too late.

    >Maybe you could get a little louder in the middle with the disonant part.

    yes, maybe.

I love this prelude very much. So I think about your comment next time.

    Thank you.

  • love it. quite fast for the mood, no? The version i'm learning is slow, subtle, meditative...but this demonstrates a grand fluidity!

  • Thank you for watching it and your comment.

    >quite fast for the mood,no?

    I'm not sure.

I would like to watch your playing, if I can.

    Anyway, thanks a lot!

  • You play so well! I just learned this piece and I'm struggling to keep the left hand "sing" and not too loud. So I looked up on youtube to see how this piece sounded like when other people play. I have to say you make it sounds really beautyful. Makes me want to go downstairs to play it right now, but I don't want to wake everyone up.... sigh... guess have to wait for tomorrow.

  • Thanks again. So how is your practicing it?

I'd love to watch/listen to yours!

  • I haven't played it in 2-3 years. I'm in Gr. 9 piano now.

  • I'd love to play it, but I haven't played it in 2-3 years. I'm in Gr. 9 piano now. Sorry!

  • im working on it. i also am working on trying to keep left hand qiuet. my teacher tells me piano pianisimo for left and forte for right. its hard to keep it the right strength

  • pennehk:

amazing! i started learning this song on sunday (i'm pretty much self-taught at this point)and i've gotten it down pretty well, but you are FANTASTIC!

wait, are you the same person who was playing the song on the video?

  • Thank you for watching it and your comments.

I love this piece, this is the best of preludes for me.

and, the playing person is me. I'm Penne.

    Thanks a lot!

  • of course! you're awesome and should know it! now all you have to do is impart some of your piano knowledge to me... haha!

  • I recently heard this song on a movie and i remembered an old cd I had that had this song on it. So I looked up this song on Youtube and i want to let you know that you are spectacular. the day of, i started learning it (that would be this past sunday) and i've already learned it on the piano and can play it without sheet music. But you are fantastic! Thanks for rekindling my love for this song!

  • Thanks for posting your performance! Wow! I think you did a fantastic job!! I love the pacing. Gives me chills. :))))

Gives me something to strive toward, I am learning it, am a beginner/intermediate player. Would love to have a better view of your hands...

  • you are fantastic pianist, and the song is SOOOOO BEAUTIFUL!!! AMAZINGLY DONE!

  • Excellent !! bravo bien jouer !!

  • nice! i found this prelude is hard to play beautifully,

'cause the bass repeat notes are hard to play smoothly and u need to link all the long notes(right hand)!

  • piękne...

  • you play so beautifully. great job!

  • Thanks a lot!

  • there have a lot of video of this song on youtube. but I think this is the most impressive one I have ever heard.

    Thank you pennehk

  • I'm so happy, thank you for your comment.

    I love this prelude.

  • oh wow! you have such a wonderful use of rubato. Im actually starting to learn this piece because i saw you play it. (i have the notes down, now to tempo and dynamics. lol)

    Great job!

  • Thank you for your comment. I'm so glad. You must play it beautiful...I would like to listen to yours...

If you upload yours here, please let me know!

  • I've watched and cxommented on this before..... I still ADORE your playing. It's beautiful and you show your emotion.

  • Thank you so much!!! I feel happy.

  • GEEH! I love Chopin! Finally someone on YouTube who plays one of his songs non-robotically, with heart ^^ thank youses!

  • Oh! Really thank you for your comment. I am so glad and impressed. I am not good at Chopin's works, but this piece is special one for me, maybe the best one. I am getting cry..........

  • You play this very nicely. This is one of my favorite Preludes by Chopin.

  • Thank you again! You have watched mine a lot!

This prelude is my favorite one too. I sometimes play it in my private time.

  • You're so cool and talented :) definitely one of the best pianists on youtube *nod*

  • Thank you so much! It's my favorite piece in Chopin's Prelude.

  • beautiful!!!

I played this piece last Sunday at a recital

  • Thank you! Wow, you played it at a recital! I wonder if i was there....

  • I played in Mesquite Texas

  • are you supposed to speed up on the chord part??

  • The grace note was too detched from teh main note, try to blend tehm together more.

    Otehrwise very well played.

  • Thank you for your advice. I'll try it.

  • beautiful, i would say just to hold the last cords a bit longer. it was well played though

  • Thank you for watching it & your comment, and your advice. I'll try it. thanks!

  • Well played. I thought the rubato was a little too much though. You applied it before every single bar line. Also, I would linger on the last chords and play them with more arm movement. Finally, I would play the duple/triple part quite a bit louder: ff, even. Thanks!

  • Thank you for your comment & advice. Yes, I think so, always a bit much rubato there. When I will play it next time, I really re-set them & re-make it. thank you.

  • Simply beautiful!

  • Thanks!

  • Nice lol.

  • Thanks!!!

  • Very nice! I liked it. And when you play, you can almost feel the emotion. A good pianist always shows emtion while playing.

  • Thank you for your comment. This prelude is the most favorite one for mt. Yes, I can feel many kinds of emotion from this piece.

  • Lovely, very touching.. Thank you penne..

  • I love your playing, and the dress.

  • i love u penne

  • i love u u played this with such beaty for such a melancholic beauty....thank u!

  • nice...

  • great

  • Hello, I would like to say that i love your playing, not just in this piece but in all of your videos, I think you're a great pianist! =)

I just learned this song, it sounds really bad though, I have only been playing for a year, and I never had any piano lessons.

Could you tell me what you think of it?

    http://youtube.com/watch?v=zfy37gJyqrA

    thanx!!

  • Thank you for watching & your comment, and introduced your video. I left my comment there. You never had piano lessons ? Woooow! surprised....

  • i played this for a recital last year, this was like a trip down memory lane. I had the sheet in front of me but after the first bar my head was down and had to keep playing from memory(i was so detached from the crowd that nearly five bars to the end i just realized i had an audience and played the wrong chord) teehee, it ended well though...lol..i guess i have stage fright after all...lol

    LOVE YOUR VIDEOS!!!! you rock!

  • Thank you for watching it & leaving your message. I have experienced as same as your situation many times. We just do our best...

  • I have also recorded this piece and in my case the contouring of the left hand does take away form the melody in the right hand. It's not my fault though. Damn my electric piano. I hope to own a house next year and buy a Grand for myself!

  • Thank you for your comments. It's my favorite prelude in Chopin's.

I would like to listen & watch yours. I'd like to listen to other pianists expression, singing.

I hope you get a grand piano soon !

  • I love the contouring of the left hand. It mustn't take away from the melody though. In your case I don't believe it does so I think you have achieved perfection on this piece!

  • i didnt know pennehk actually held the site~ i should say "you" next time :P

  • i like it super super largo... just my own preference~ but she did very well, plus she's dressing very formal. that's how it should be ~____~

one thing, she looks tense, it will be better if she has more movements. this song can be played really sad, which is the whole point~

  • Thank you for watching the video & your comment.

    >this song can be played really sad

    yes, I agree.

  • Thank you for your advice, I have already listened it.

  • I like your choice of rubato in this piece...Making the left hand one speed is very plain and boring, the way you played it is very good.from the post above i can see that person must not of heard many styles of the piece by different pianist.

  • Thank you for your opinion. Yes,it's my way. I also have tried different ways, then I'found my way. It is sure. So it's depends on the pianists how to play, express. My son has his own way, it's compoletely different from me. He plays no rubato on left hand, a little rubato just on right hand. I like his expresssion too, but enough, haha. Thank you so much.

  • i think it would be better if you kept the left hand one speed instead of slowing down and speeding up each measure but other than that very good job

  • Thank you for your advice, I will try the way.

  • too easy a song but beautiful

  • Yes, I also think it is easy to play, but difficult to sing. Thank you.

  • hehe. I can play this one too, but not as well. It's quite nice how you play it. :)

  • Oh! you also play this one. I prefer this one in his preludes. The tune is including sad feeling and recollection...i imagine chopin's the end of his life and his lacking feeling.
