Even on this video [in videos the higher voice is always more appealing] pavarotti drowns ghena on the two high notes at the end.He isn't a dramatic voice,he is lyric but more powerful than the dramatic ones.He had kind of a sword in his voice that cuts through every dramatic voice and full orchestra and than drowns them.
Placido's voice is huge but his voice didn't project very well.Maybe that is so because of his lack of technique. He sings like strangled. And Luciano sings so freely and beautiful, like the notes are singing themself alone.
daphnebeloved you are right.I did some comparation and i found out that because of his technique pavarotti who didn't have a dramatic voice on the list of loudest singers whose voice projects well is on the second place together with tucker, corelli, tamgno .Btw the loudest singer ever is suppoused to be Carl Haus. But of course the most perfect voice ever is pavarotti's.On the third place are del monaco and ghena dimitrova.
the biggness of the voice has nothing to do with loudness.i have heard pavarotti and ghena dimitrova singing tosca in the Vienna opera house ,I WAS THERE,and ghenas voice is far wider bigger than pavarottis but when they sung together he was way louder and osmethimes drowned her totally
@05Mrstef This is because Pavarotti had a very good technique, he never had to make any effort to try to make the voice big, but his voice carried, projected so well, that it reached the last seat of big theater with very precise timbre...btw, Ghena dimitrova used to have big and projecting voice as well...
@05Mrstef but the same didnt happen to placido dominogs, he has big , potent and powerful voice, but i think it doesnt project as well as pavarotti s voice when he used to sing turandont, most of time his voice was drowned by turandot ' s , especially Ghena dimitrova' s turandot
It's really pathetic that a singer had to withhold her true colors all the time in order to get a job, that is to sing with the biggest star: one who's produced by the relentless PR machine, in the world. Further proof that there isn't any justice in this world.
They sing wonderfully, Ghena's got this extremely powerful voice and Pavarotti's always sublime. But watch him do the same duet with Shirley Verrett. He's a man in love there!
Hello there, I need to know how can I get the complete video from this Tosca's release, coz it seems to me it's officialy unavailable. I'm a great Dimitrova & Pavarotti's fan, so I'd like to add it to my own collection. Thank you so much.

Oh, that's nice. So because he was old, who cares if he died? His voice wasn't what it was so it's okay he dies. Nice. What is wrong with some people? Wacko!
Voices like these are forever gone! If you listen to the modern interpreters, you will see that opera would never be the same! The voice is gone, the last sparke of it about three weeks ago!
Pity one can hear the bloody prompter.

On the other hand Placido Domingo despite of his huge voice couldn't cut even through big orchestras which are smaller than the full orchestra.
ThePavafan 10 months ago
@ThePavafan You are stupid. Domingo was louder than Pavarotti. Pavarotti used microphones.

@markgraysondumas she didn't withhold her true colours here. and pavarotti is the biggest star because of the best voice he had.

Not if he still sounds like this, he's not. He's a tenor, not a sprinter.

Puccini was a genius - he made so beautiful music.
Pavarotti was a master singing it.
Beautiful! RIP maestro Pavarotti.

The glorious, glorious Luciano Pavarotti. Thank you God, for giving him to us. Did you have to take him from us so soon?

He was 70 something and his voice was nothing to what it was. I'm more sorry for his family than for the lovers of his music...
