  • i would have gone up and down a couple of more times than they did so it is more centered

  • soo...whatcha gonna do with that big pot?

  • Some of the worst throwing I have ever seen. check out Nichibei potters to see how it can be done!

  • honestly, this potter isn't very impressive. the pot was never even centered on the wheel head. you can see later on when he is finishing up and the wheel is spinning slowly the varying wall thicknesses. Overall, I'm not impressed. there are much better potters on youtube then this

  • im supposed to get one for my birthday on the 11th lol its 7-11

  • Im surprised the bowl turned out this nice. Didn't start out centered, poked tons of air bubbles into it, pinched quite unorthodox....maybe the worst techniques ever.

  • AMEN... It was so disrespectful to the instructor whom I was trying to learn something from. I bet the talkers and camera person can't throw a monster size bowl like that... It was information I needed but it pissed me off with the talkers, blocking info., non listeners, and can't film nothing camera person...

  • whoever was throwing in the beginning, that was HORRIBLE. also, was it just me or did i notice like a thousand air bubbles

  • When you are centering... using your fingers like that... makin little grooves in it doesnt help your clay later on.

  • Thanks for making the video, I enjoyed watching, how many lbs of clay did you use, and I appreciated how you worked through the bubbles and bulges to come with a nice shape.

  • boy does this technique suck....

  • the people not on the wheel throwing need to shut up. and whoever handled the camera, whoever held the camera, i recommend passing the torch to someone else.

  • I mentioned this once, but I think I have to say again. This is at a class of our studio. We are very casual and there are many of them. Sorry for the noise but mostly I wanted include the instructor's comments.

I wasn't trying to make a great video. I started as my memo instead of taking notes. I just hoped his comments could be useful for others.

I LOVE the idea of YouTube that an amateur like me can put up a video like this. So, please stop complaining. Just watch and enjoy.

  • @n2cheese Motha fucka u sound like Holden caulfield

  • i really dont agree with how you make that bowl. im willing to bet i could make one that size with half the amount of clay you started with...

  • mamma always said,,it you cant say somthing nice,,,then dont say nothin at all. we as a society need to start building oneanother up instead of tearing down.

  • @overtherhinesunshine lol...just.... lol

  • haha nice "control" of the camera

  • That annoying blabby woman! Someone shut her up!

  • That was awesome, i wanna see the finished product if u ever did finish it.

  • lol poor guy couldn't get a word in, with the others talking over him. He tried saying something 3 times, and gave up hahaha. Great work by the way...quite a piece of work =)

  • this is amature pottery at its best no effenc

  • excellent video on what not to do. airpockets

of that size should not happen...

  • I agree. This pot was also poorly centered.

  • I don't believe you two! Huge airpockets, that's poorly wedged, okey, but what was wrong with anything else? It ended up as a beautiful bowl, bloody big and beautifully shaped. I'm impressed.

  • How do you get it off the wheel and still hold it's shape? It is so huge I would think that woul be an issues, or do you just wait till it is pretty dry on top?

  • u have to throw something that big on the bat.. that wasnt intended to be fired, i hope

  • nope big bowls like that oftn get fired at my school...<.<

they just take up like most of the kilin

  • i meant that it would be nearly impossible to slide that off the wheel onto a bat. i know bowls like that can actually be fired

  • I'm curious to know if this bowl ever was fired.... and I would imagine that it was impossible to trim or create a footing. It's fun to throw that large, but what does one do with a piece that big???? :-) best, mb

  • what does one do with a big bowl like that? Sell it and people buy it for decoration. My teacher sold bowls as big as that, or even slightly bigger for like 1200$ and people stil bought. And great throwing...wish i could throw like that.

  • Can I just say I LOVE what you just did. What I had trouble with were the EXCESS voices in the video keeping me from being able to concentrate on YOU. I would be willing to pay for a video of you showing this technique again from start to finish without your studio audience. ;-)

  • Sorry about the ambient noise. I couldn't avoid that since this is a class at a studio. Maybe you have to come and take his classes if you live not too far from Manhattan.

  • the bowl amazing, the vido yuck! Wish you would remake it. Would have loved the class but have to work and take care of family. At 60 don't think I will ever be abler to take a real class. But I am learning to throw BIG!

  • nice

  • wow!

  • you must have a huge kiln. dang.

  • oh ....... so that is a bowl....

  • thats like my morning cereal bowl!

  • More like king kongs cereal bowl.

  • Thats like the equivilant to 5 gathers for a glass blower!

  • Oh my god!

  • so that has to be the largest pot i have seen thrown. i wonder however, how does one go about trimming such a large piece?

  • Guess I won't be watching any more! Turn off the Wierdo Chick noise PLEASE!!! Some people just don't get what art and pottery means. Shame on you or whom ever, how about an FYI next time!

  • Wow! This is not the caliber of your other work very sad to see this, looks like all the junk ( being nice) other jerks try when they are screwing around in the art rooms,( waisting time money and effort) What

are you trying to do any how!!! NOT IMPRESSED

    more like depressing!!!

  • won't play all the way through

  • BOOOO!! turn down the suck knob, why dont you try another sport, like knitting

  • Thank you for your suggestion. But I am already an expert knitter.

  • Hell yeah!

For the record i enjoy you movies very much

    they are imformative

  • Thank you very much.

  • burn

  • he is soo bad lool

  • well

i am 13 and i ve been throwing for 2 years now and I have much experience with throwing

    1. you wedge the clay before throwing

    2. properly center it

3.you go to the bottom depending on how big you want the foot to be

  • For the noobs watching this video when they are centering if you notice the finger marks/rings they are squeezing with thier finger which can cause hand and wrist injuries. same with the open of the bowl all the pressure is in the finger tips. be careful newbies dont get hurt

  • So is everyone who is watching a "Noob"?

  • "for the noobs" means for people that are new. i dont and wouldnt think everyone watching is a noob just as like saying the hungry people should eat, doesnt mean everyone is hungry.

  • i watched a potter in chang mai thailand throw forms like these in about two minutes ......each one centimeter identical to the previous....why are you bothering??

  • There is something different between commercial pottery and artistic one. And for Pete's sake, this is a class.

  • ok, point taken , BUT, you dont make it clear that this is a class.HOWEVER, students following your methodology, be they present or on the tube , will be deffo following the wrong leader. If , your title was "a fight almost to the death with 10 kilos of mud from which finally a sizeable bowl emerges", then noone watching would have any illusions. my why do you bother comment was referring to your actual posting of the footage, rather than your making.

  • I find your creativity both entertaining and educational. I highly recommend those with gifted hands to watch this and learn. Well done.

  • I had to mute the sound on this - jesus christ people, shut up and let the man talk! The finished product was absolutely amazing. I could never have imaged it reaching the end it did. Nice work Sir! (try getting a vid on tripod next time and throw all idiots out).

  • Do you wedge your clay..?

  • Yes, he wedged the clay.

  • I've been doing ceramics for about four years...that looks about thirty to thirty-five pounds to me.

  • My god, that was a train wreck. I'm amazed you got a finished piece.

  • Oh, I have been doing pottery for about half a year now. I know sounds lame but people say I have natural talent and I'm only 16.

To me thats look like about 20 pounds.

  • Thats 30 plus pounds. 25 pounds is a full bag or pug of clay. This is clearly much more than 25 lbs. I have 35 years of working with clay.

  • About how much clay is this? Nice form by the way.

  • We, students, always ask the same question; his answer is that he never weighs the clay, just an eyeball.
