@baby24boy The Numark NS6 is much better than this. It has a better construction, better overall Jog Wheel feel, it has lots of inputs and outputs and it's much more dynamic. Check out my Video review of it.
Very disappointing that you can't plug your Pioneer CDJs into this device. Surely it can't be that difficult to have done this? Sort it out Pioneer!!! Come on!! I use CDJ2000's and was considering getting this to use 4 decks and as an alternative to taking the lumpier stuff out or connecting up on site. I like the look of the DDJ-S1 - typical robust high quality Pioneer kit, but am p.ssed off that they have not thought about 4 decks???
@DannyLaRuined Try getting a Numark NS6 or a Denon DN-MC6000 OR a Traktor Kontrol S4... All of those units are capable of what you want to do with four decks.
@DannyLaRuined Sorry, question been answered. That's a real disappointment that you can't plug your pio decks in. Sort it out Pioneer, it can't be that hard SURELY!!!
@petroFDR It depends what you need... 2-channels or 4 or what type of DJ you are going to be and what other gear do you or will you want to connect to it. Lots of questions will determine what you need. Check all of my reviews in the meantime and you can get an idea of what everyone has to offer.
I am greatly enjoying your reviews! Detailed and entertaining. This greatly helps me choose my first controller since I'm finding a tough time deciding what to buy.
I have been looking at the S1 and the T1. In your opinion, which would you recommend? I am pretty fluent with both Serato Itch and Traktor. I just don't know which would be better. I am leaning towards the T1 because of the extra 2 decks, but am not sure. Any input?
@StompySan - The T1 and the S1 are so familiar that it's really up to the software you like the most. I feel that you may get a bit more out of Traktor, therefor, I recommend the T1 as that is what I would choose personally if I was to pick between the two. If I wanted to get the Best controller, I would look towards the NS6 and MC6000 first and foremost as they are all-metal and have lots of inputs and output options that the pioneers don't have...
RealDJblaze I have the Logitech Z5500 which I plan to use with the DDJ-s1, can i port the audio output from the DDJ -S1 onto a coaxial port or fiber input port on the logitech ? If not , does it make sense to use RCA to 1/4 inch conversion cables?
@ RealDJblaze I have the Logitech Z5500 which I plan to use with the DDJ-s1, can i port the audio output from the DDJ -S1 onto a coaxial port or fiber input port on the logitech ? If not , does it make sense to use RCA to 1/4 inch conversion cables?
@getinfra - I have never heard of any cables that can convert analog to fiber on audio systems, so I think you would have to use the RCA to 1/4-inch or RCA to RCA to make this work for you.
@xomi3 The jog wheels of the pioneer DDJ series are just like the CDJ-350's or 400's which are definitely noisy... No issues with them though, that's just how they are designed.
@Philliegirl1 - There aren't many controllers out there that work only with an ipod. It doesn't work that way. You need to run a DJ software on a computer then hook it up. If you must use your ipod, check out the Numark iDJ2 and iDJlive which will work for you. Good Luck.
@SuperTonoo - The mixtrack has been pretty successful but the quality of that controller is waaaay inferior to the pioneers and even more inferior to the Denon DN-MC6000 and Numark NS6 or N4... If you are just going to do mixing, then it will work for you. You will have problems scratching on a mixtrack...
@SuperTonoo - Like fader and jog wheel millisecond delays that will throw you off... It's cheaper and most of the time you get what you pay for. You will not be getting the same type of quality or performance with the Numark mixtrack.
Im a old school disco Dj im thinking in getting back to playing and mixing at home your review is awsome !!! What do you think is better for me the s1 or the t1 ?
@pepeacura - Thanks! If you are an old school DJ, then you probably only need 2 decks of control instead of 4, so you can go with the DDJ-S1 if you must go Pioneer. There are other options that are better for the same price but made by different companies. Check into the Numark and Denon and Native Instruments offerings. Vestax Controllers are nice too. Good Luck and go to my blog site to watch the reviews and read them as well.
Hey man, great video. I am fairly new to djing. Do you think this would be a good starting controler? I was looking at the ergo but people said this would last me longer when I get more advanced. Also, does this come with the full version of Serato ITCH? Thanks man!
@distab - Yes, it comes with a full version of Itch and this is a great starter controller. There are other choices out there that I think are better and I've also reviewed them as well. This is probably a bit better than the DDJ-ERGO.
This is the most balanced, thorough and intelligent review I've seen on the DDJ-S1 - major props to you. I've been searching for a review like this for days. So far I've just come across DJs writing the whole device off as 'unprofessional' on account of it not having booth outputs rather than discussing its general functionality.
@tanville99 - Check through all my review videos for each of those reviews. I like the S4 better than both Pioneer controllers. It has more features and the inputs work as an AUDIO 4 DJ Interface for timecode control decks.
Does the DDJ-S1 have a CDJ-Mode Repeating-Cue (Stutter-Cue @ 1/75 sec) function for finding the beats like on all Pioneer CDJs except CDJ-100.
With CDJ-Mode a DDJ-S1 deck at home would be the same as owning 2 X Pioneer CDJ 2000's and a DJM 400 mixer having the ability to manually find beats using the Stuttering-Cue and then perform manual Cued-Playing while monitoring their mix with headphones manually CDJ style.
So DJ Blaze is there a CDJ-Mode Stuttering-Cue or is it auto-grid-crap?
I'm very amateur and new to DJing, and I wanted to ask you quick questions.
Is this good for solely EDM mixing? I'm not into hip hop and scratching, so I need your opinion on this on please.
Also, how's the built in sound card? Is it better than the DDJ t1? Because I heard from someone that the T1 soundcard was not great for lows & base, but I think I thought they said the S1 soundcard was upgraded.
@wootz69 - Any DJ item that is good for Hip-Hop and scratching will DEFINITELY be able to do EDM mixing. The reason for this is because in order to scratch and do hip-hop there can be no latency with anything whatsoever. You can get away with latency as it relates to high BPM mixing. The T1 and S1 soundcards sound the same to me, but the S1 does have a balanced XLR output giving it a bit of an edge in the sound department. The big question is do u want traktor (T1) or serato (S1)
@FranciscoVelasquezDJ - This could work in a club environment if you could plug it into one of the line inputs of a bigger "official" setup. I don't think a club would actually use this as their premier permanent setup, but it can be transported and used in a club by a user who wishes to do so.
@heltino Music and scratch style are both subjective, but the review states the facts! Thanks for the thumbs-up...
Also remember, scratching and juggling on a Controller you've only been on for a couple days is way different than scratching on the real setup (Denon DN-S3700's & PMC-05proIV), but the demo is only to show the capabilities of the unit.
Thanks for these videos! Would you say the DDJ-S1 is better than the Traktor S4? (I guess the better comparison would be with DDJ-T1...but this is close enough!!). Thanks!
@TheLifeOfJayP - Get the DDJ-S1 if you want Serato and the S4 or DDJ-T1 if you need 4-decks and traktor. Don't get any of the three if you want something more solid and a stand-alone mixer. There are other options out there that I recently reviewed that feel better... The Numark NS6 and the Denon DN-MC6000 are both impressive.
@nikirfan2 - They are two totally different controllers. The NS6 is a 4-deck console while the DDJ-S1 is only 2 decks. The DDJ-S1 can only work on a computer while the NS6 can be used as a stand-alone mixer or a controller. They both work well, so it really depends on what you are looking for...
So i was wondering... would you choose this over the Numark NS6? I'm still in a dilemma lol. don't know which one i should get. Thanks for the help.
