Yo when i pull out the pen tool , by default it covers up alot of the image instead of simply drawing the outline like its supposed to. Im new to Illustrator cause I only got it for this reason.

you have your fill on you need to put fill to none and put the stroke on then that will fix your problem

yo i got cs3... but i guess the illstrater is a whole different thing..but if you want a toon effect..try the unsharp mask...and the surface blur...o and if that dont work try the plug in topix adjust

Simply go to the Colors Palette on the right side and set the stroke to none (little white box with red stripe). you should be good then.
