There a nothing the same engine an base than a neon. Its a different car and the motors in that is the mondial motor made by mitsubishi hyundai and chrysler.
actually the platform is a modified version of the same platform that the new mitsubishi lancer/evo rides on and the engine was a joint project with mitsubishi and hyundai. the turbo is from mitsubishi as well i believe. so what this actually is is a front wheel drive dodge evo x american style. which means it's half-assed. i still want one though haha

if it were rwd, it would be a complete monster.
as for potential? it's definitely a car with a lot of character. i'd rather have a wrx though...

I own a Caliber SRT-4 and whoever drove that 14.9 was a terrible driver. On a poorly prepared track with ESP on, I ran a 14.3 @ 101 mph Stock! It will also destroy a NSRT-4 on a 3rd gear pull. The CSRT is only 280 lbs more with 50 more WHP, do the math. 287 whp on a dynojet last Saturday.

Unfortunately, Dodge has decided to market this car to the typical American family with 2.5 kids. No longer is the SRT-4 geared to the tuners. Back in '03-'05 Dodge made the SRT-4 to be faster than the WRX. Now they're targeting the slower Mazdaspeed 3.

This guy at my job just brought a 2004 SRT-4. He used to beg me 2 sell him mines. He finally brought it from cars dot com. He had to drive 100 miles to that dealership and it took him 2 months to find one but he really wanted that SRT-4.
I'm pretty sure everyone is going to be surprised whenever this really comes out. Keep in mind a lot of the performance specs you read about vary depending on the driver. For example, a skilled driver could get the last SRT-4 to do 0-60 in about 5.3 seconds, whereas someone who hasn't driven much could do it in around 6 seconds.
Also, I've already heard of a case or two of the Caliber doing 0-60 in 5.5 seconds. Keep in mind it has more torque and a good bit more horsepower than the last one. It doesn't weight but 200 pounds more, and is just about as aerodynamic. Even for how the Neon SRT-4 looks, it is aerodynamically a brick.
On top of THAT, the Caliber isn't really that bad aerodynamically. Maybe just a tad worse than a Neon. The horsepower and torque difference MIGHT be able to compensate. And don't think that any of these posts are bias to the Caliber SRT-4, because I own an 04 Neon SRT-4 and I love my baby. :P
