  • Gives me the Chills!

    I see "The Wizard"

  • just getting into this great 'garage rock'! can somebody tell me some essential bands to check out?

  • re; the inane comment by "koalacatcher"...It's amazing how many aloof elitist snobs are out there, apparently too cool for The Sonics. They are not over-rated; they deserve every bit of praise they've gotten through the years. OF COURSE there were other great garage bands from that time. There ARE people out there who know about them. Get a clue!

  • My fave, one of their best, (Check them out absolutely shredding Tallahassie Lassie!), the Sonics, however were not the best band in Tacoma, Seattle, the state of Washington, or the entire Pacific NW. No, that title belongs to the Wailers. (Don't even think Bob Marley) These Wailers were without a doubt the kings of NW hard rock. Give a listen to Out Of Our Tree and judge for yourself.

  • I love the

    Sonics.

I love the Sonics.I think part of their mystique comes from their songs' subject matter.Psycho, witches strychnine, and Satan in this song isn't exactly Frankie Avalon or Paul Anka subject matter.LOL

  • amazing to me how overrated this band is, not saying they're terrible but it amazes me why it seems like they're the only "garage" band from the 60s anyone ever cares about.

  • Holy Smokes!!!! What can I say. The Sonics are one of my favorite 60s bands and this was my favorite tune by them.Great stuff:) Thanks for posting.

  • Fantastic band!

  • Garagepunk at it´s best

  • Glad to see that they are still alive and kicking...I love the bands from the Pac NW, including the Liverpool Five who emigrated there......check them out on You Tube along with the Sonics stuff.

  • hell yes, the real mother f#%'n deal and still as raw as they were back in the day !

  • Amazing. 'Nuff said.

  • No doubt-the first punk band. Not enough people give them credit for that. Show some respect!

They sound like vicious switchblade wielding, drag racin' thugs.....

    Yes, that's a compliment..

  • Ye Frick'n Haw! I'm gonna be front and center for their Oct.31 show in Seattle!

  • this is really good. I like it.

  • OMG!! is right Howdy ! Geez Ros, it has been an eternity since that first night BOTBs @ "The Castle". You were GREAT then -- you & the guys are "frickin' SMASH" now -- WELCOME Back Amigo - (maybe one of these days we will BOTH be old enuf so I will finally WIN one) !

  • OMG!! Roslie STILL has an utterly AMAZING voice and he and his bandmates STILL give me a thrill to the marrow after all these years!! Their re-emergence is surely a prayer answered for me!! :) PS When is the RRHOF gonna do the right thing and induct these legends?!

  • AWESOME SONG!

  • What's the Line-up besides Roslie??.....

    Larry & Andy Parypa??....Gary Lind??....Eric

  • When they were in NYC it was Roslie, Larry Parypa and Rob Lind. Bob Bennet lives in Hawaii and apparently Andy Parypa has Carpal Tunnel and couldn't do the show.

  • Thanx Mondo....TOO BAD about A.Parypa....that Power riff of his (for "He's Waiting")may be the Single GREATEST Garage hook of ALL TIME!!...So simple yet so Kool!!.....We lost another GREAT "underappreciated" Axeman to Arthritis....that would be one Peter Tolson of the Pretty Things

(The "Banshee Rocker of the 70's....)who was unable to join them in their Comeback because of the Disease.....BUMMER!

    Thanx for the reply! Eric

  • Actually, it's Larry on guitar. Andy (bass) wasn't in the NYC lineup.

  • My BAD!!.....You're CORRECT....(Funny...I was thinking "Man that "Sub" Guitarist sure sounds GREAT!!....On ALL those Live tracks!!...) Great to hear that Larry is still Blazing....though BUMMER bout Andy I guess!!.....R n' R'!!....E

  • And what's even more amazing, he's using the SAME GUITAR he used back then!

  • Is that a Gretsch or a Gibson Hollow??.....

Hope he's going "easy" on those Amps these Days....(ie: Ice picking or punching holes....to get that Parypa induced Famous Distortion Sound!!)Must've been a GREAT Show....Did Lil' Steven put this one on??....We were at the Garage Festival Show out on Randall's Island back in 2004....Hope the Sonics make the West Coast (L.A. Area) soon!!??....E

  • Methinks it's a Gretsch. As for who put the show on, Jon Weiss (of CaveStomp fame) is responsible. No Little Steven affiliation.

    Sam :)

  • It's his Epiphone Riviera.

  • They also play March 31 in Bilbao (Spain) at teh Azkena venue

  • Sorry, MAY 31

  • How do we get the Sonics to tour Australia?

  • Wow how cool do they sound!! the masters of garage punk!!

    Brilliant!

  • Truly one of the best shows I have

ever seen; aside from it being the Sonics--they blew our faces off. Nobody kicks into high

gear and lands on a dime into a turnaround better than these guys.

London--you're in for a real treat!

  • god, they are still amazing!

  • that is Excellent.. received my ticket today for The Sonics gig in London on Good Friday..

  • Que puto concierto que cañaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.

    Grupazooooooooo,, que venganm a españaaaaaaaa

(mejor a galicia y asi le mandan un octhopues to the party)

  • Are they doing a tour??? That will be great!

  • holy crap!! when the hell will i be able to see this!!!

  • Wow, I'm SO glad to be stuck on the west coast. Now I've missed the Monks reunion AND the Sonics reunion. I want to die now.

    Check please!

  • was Bob Bennett there?

  • I don't know. I had heard that he was going to be in attendance along with Andy Parypa, but I really don't know if they were there...

  • thanks, I just called out west to find out why Bob didnt play... I think Bob was there in NY, but didnt play... I was told the reason he didnt play, but I dont want to post it. (was told nothing serious) I'll email his son and ask if they plan on playing again.. I will make sure I get to it this time... Id like to see them...

  • Good god, is this fantastic. Can you imagine what it must have been like to see them back in the glory days of the 60s?

Great rock & roll should always contain an element of danger; The Sonics never played it safe, and for that we are grateful.

  • Well I for one was there in '65' and'66 and went to their shows whenever possible. My first band The Pageboys did two gigs with them in '65 and I do hope they will accept at least some of the offers they're getting from around the world. Also, for a rich electrifying totally wicked keyboard sound it's very hard if not impossible to beat what a Farfisa does played thru a Leslie which many of the bands back then used.

  • Great.Gigantic.Flashing to see world's first punkrockers. A little more ''rioting'' within the audience would even made it better.....

  • Oh my god I've been waiting for this for ages actually...

They're amazing...GARAGE RULES OVER THE WORLD

  • Roslie has the greatest punk pipes on the planet!

  • We've been WAITING a long time for this reunion. Hopefully, they'll do more shows, like maybe in San Francisco...

I hope the legitimate CD/DVD of this show comes out real soon, and every Sonics fan buys it.

  • WOW!! Wish I would have known about this!! Any word of a tour? AWESOME!!!

  • There is talk about an upcoming show in London. Perhaps in March? That is the rumor anyway. Can't wait!!!!!!

  • Fri 21 March 2008 - The Sonics play the Le Beat Bespoke Weekender in London - tickets for the friday are just £25! mine are booked! see ya'll there!

  • Yow!.....makes me proud to be from Tacoma.

  • Wow. Thanks Sam! Sorry my head was in the way!

  • this show was incredible. worth the trip from toronto. wish i could have been there on sunday.

  • Despite some fat pseudo rock-critic losers who think this incarnation of the Sonics suck, I have to say that they're infinately better than The Stooges are now, and most other reformed R&R groups. Im not one for reunion gigs, but despite their advanced age, these guys still kick the asses of most groups who are 30-40yrs younger. You could learn something by listening to these guys y'know...

  • You've got that right. If only people could know how it FELT to be in that room with The Sonics. What's important is to put it all in context; this is THE BAND that launched snotty garage rock as a genre. There would be no Stooges (or so many other bands) without The Sonics. Their reunion show exuded cool: no pretense, no 'acting younger' bullshit, some flubs, and VOLUME.

  • Thanks for putting this up!! These guys are so underrated its ridiculous. Roslie and Little Richard were doing 'punk rock' before it was punk rock. I've never heard a white guy scream like Roslie...And yeah, they STILL put a lot of contemporary garage bands to shame...People who expect its gonna be like 64' need to pull their collective heads in...

  • RichardNixon17, I whole-heartedly agree. I'm an old punk who was turned on to The Sonics a few years ago, and they are way more punk than a lot of the old buggers still hanging around. Wish I could have been at this show!

  • While I adore to The Sonics in a way that can only be described with by the word 'Epic', The Stooges are most definately playing damn amazingly at the moment also.

  • also the satelliters where cool

    as were the Lyres especially

    they amazed me.

  • I'm a real ASSHOLE for skippin' this show. Much better than expected...let's hope they do more appearances......would have liked to catch The Wildebeests also.

  • Thanks Mondosam, I wanted my friends to see what they missed by not going. Now I can rub it in!

  • Thanks Sam- this does give a sense of the sound and energy....

    Whatta show!

  • Friday they were great but Sunday they totally blew me away! My one and only religious experience!!!

  • Thanks so much for posting this. It's been killing me to hear how they actually sounded. I really wish I could have been there.

  • Hell, and it was nothing like actually being there. The sound was SO powerful. And I was much happier seeing them standing there and letting their sonic onslaught do the speaking. I'm tired of old people trying to act young. The Sonics did it RIGHT. I was close to tears...

  • So true. Seeing this video is great. But actually being there in the audience? That was one hundred times better at least! Astounding!

  • AMAZING! This is surreal and unreal. Damn I wish I coulda been there.

  • wow!!! thanks mondosam. Amazing!

they were so nervous But they totally KILLED IT!

and listen to the crowd. Yes chills It's still like in a DReam.
